Larry King Not Familiar With Piers Morgan

| Filed under: TV NewsLarry King

We've all heard the news of Larry King leaving his 25-year run on NBC this fall and Piers Morgan is slated to be his replacement.

In an interview with Forbes.com, King revealed that he's not too familiar with Morgan even though he's had him on his show a few times.

King says:

Most Americans wouldn't [know Morgan] unless you watch 'America's Got Talent.' And if you watch that, you only know him as a judge. You don't know him as a host…other than being a guest on my show, I've never watched 'America's Got Talent' and I don't know if I'd recognize him if he was walking down the street.

We don't completely disagree with King on this one, Piers Morgan isn't the most familiar face on TV.

Do U think CNN should have chose Ryan Seacrest someone else to replace Larry King??

    That's CNN, Mario.
    Sheesh.

Over here in the UK Piers isn't respected at all and we don't care so much for him as a host - he's just too bland.

He's going to completely BORE you if he's taking Larry King's spot and this is from someone that enjoys both watching America's Got Talent and the news.

This job really should have gone to Seacrest or heck, someone that's had more experience hosting.

I can't for the life of me understand why they picked him.

that was the most stupid move EVER!! Piers Morgan is not a good fit for that show and i won't be watching and neither will my coworkers according to what i've heard. They should have picked Soledad O'Brien, Joy Behar, Fran (the nanny), Linda Carter, Julia Dreyfus, Megan Mullaly, Whoopi Goldberg, or ME lol

I'm from the UK myself and completely disagree! Yeah at first look Piers Morgan looks completely boring and has you thinking how its even possible that he could be as good a host as Larry King. But you have to admit he is an INCREDIBLE interviewer. He did a tv slot in the UK where he interviewed many celebrities like Joan Collins, Danni Minogue and Simon Cowell himself. He really knows how to get under their skin and get the truth from them, he made Simon Cowell cry! I seriously think he may be able to make a good show…

    TEAM SEACREST

I don't know anything about this guy so I can't say whether he'd be any good or not. But I am familiar with Seacrest and all I can say is thank God we won't have to be subjected his drivvel. If you thought King's interviews were a little fluffy, imagine what Seacrest's would be like. It wouldn't be an interview, it would be a fan club meeting.

NO hes boring and shit. he will ruin the show. get anybody else. why him? WHY?

Piers first became a public entity working for some tabloid (for you Americans- this means 'trash') newspapers here in the UK. Long story short, in 2004 he was sacked for being hoaxed- the Mirror published what turned out to be fake pictures of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prsioners. He was involved in other bad decision making in his media career, too- including some investigations into some shares which he had bought. Shady.

Much to my annoyance, now he's on X Factor people seem to have forgotten that he's just a sensationalist who seeks the headlines, no matter the cost.

If you want someone who's going to get under people's skin and create trouble where it needn't exist, Piers is your guy. He recently did a show where he interviewed people and he was surprisingly good, he digs unforgivingly. His ruthless prying borders on voyeurism, it's good TV though. I sure hope that the news is all true, I can't wait for him to leave my screen and start annoying people across the pond. He's got that quintessential Hugh Grant floppy quality about him, which British people dislike because its an awful stereotype. No doubt Americans will begin to suffer from Anglophilia once he starts.

I have no problem with people becoming more famous due to their affiliation with Simon Cowell. America- please take Piers. Take Amanda Holden, too. But please, let us keep Cheryl.

    cnn…?

anyone is better than LK-the times I tried to see why he was "relevant" I couldn't sit through the interviews! He asked questions that had NOTHING to do with the guest-so the thing that he seems so proud of(that he doesn't prepare his questions ahead of time)if VERY obvious. He always seemed like an old,out of touch, clueless man. I never understood why he had any ratings. I figured it must have been the 60+ crowd that doesn't read or watch anything else-because he never revealed anything that EVERYONE didn't already know!

Seacrest is so boring. Give it to a woman. Kathy Griffin or Joan Rivers

  13. 13

Well how familiar of a face was ole Larry King when he Started the show? Would anyone have recognized him walking down the street? He became known by Doing that show. So, his successor may do the same. Ryan Seacrest does trashy interviews and has bad mouthed celebrities in the past who don't co-operate the way he wants. He's too childish for such a mature platform. The successor needs to be graceful- Ryan Seacrest is Far from that.

    -
    Rosie O'Donnell
    -
    Or
    -
    Katie Couric
    -
    Would be great…
    -
    Piers Morgan yawn!!!

Can the whole show. Either that, or just be honest and have PR flacks reading from a teleprompter. The guests are only on to promote something, and no TV journalist is going to interfere with that by asking hardball questions.

  16. 16

I think Piers will be a good replacement. He's allowed his personality out so far this season and he has a great sense of humor. He'll bring a whole new fresh energy to the show.

  17. 17

Aww Larry is so butt hurt they didn't choose Seacrest. No one would have taken him seriously. Piers has filled in for Larry before so I can't believe he would go say this. Ryan Seacrest wants to be the next Dick Clark not the next Larry anyway.

  18. 18

I would have loved to see joan rivers as the replacement for larry
king live piers is so boring and I can't stand him ever since the
omarosa incident he was a rude crude racist individual and I love
    omarosa!…

  19. 19

He had the cajones to say "I don't know if I'd recognize him if he was walking down the street?" Sorry, Lar, but you have a hard enuff time recognizing your own guests, often calling them by their wrong names, screwing up their bios (Cowell, Seinfeld, etc)…and they are sitting right across your desk inhaling your death breath. Seacrest for sure no, Morgan, will probably be as dry as watching Tom Snyder. Shoulda been Chelsea Handler if they really wanted to get more edgy and recapture their many, many, many lost viewers..

..and, who really knew Lawrence Harvey Zeiger when he first started, ya old fart! 'Cept for those big ass old man glasses, you old frog!
