Amy Adams CONFIRMED For Janis Joplin BioPic!

| Filed under: Music MinuteFilm FlickersAmy Adams

She's not the first person you would consider for the part, but we think she is going to do an AMAZING job!

The long-awaited Janis Joplin bio-pic has yet to be greenlit, and is still going through various screenplay revisions, but there's word that Amy Adams is confirmed for the role of the iconic singer!

The film has also snagged City Of God director Fernando Meirelles to take the helm, so we are certainly curious to see what kind of final product is produced!

What do U think?? Do U agree with the casting choice??

Very good choice! Although Pink would be my automatic choice just because of her amazing singing voice, Amy looks more like Janis in the face than Pink does. Should be a great movie - they've been trying to make this forever!

  2. 2

I LOVE her! she's sweet, amazing and hilarious. I think she'll do great!

  3. 3

Is there really a lot of interest in this long-deceased singer? Enough to merit a 21st century biopic? I see why this hasn't been greenlit yet.

  4. 4

I think its a great idea. She can act and sing. I hope the movie does justice for the voice, music and personality of Janis Joplin.

  5. 5

Definitely weird, but I have to believe the studios know what they are doing. I adore her as an actress so this will be fun to see her in a completely different role than what I'm used to seeing.

  6. 6

I still think they should have picked Pink… she would be amazing with her voice, she's very talented and I am sure she could handle it. Either that or throw some acting lessons at Crystal Bowersox, she's got the voice and some of the look!!

There is a singer out there named BETH HART, who's voice is the second coming of Janis Joplin. She is a phenomenal talent and even played Janis Joplin on stage. There should be serious consideration for using her. Nothing against Amy Adams, of course.

  8. 8

Don't see her in that role AT ALL!

  9. 9

  10. 10

wtf, she wouldn't have even been my 25th choice for the role! I think she's good, but kind of a yawn - Janis had some serious fucked-up fire inside and Adams is really gonna have to dig deep to convince me.

  11. 11

    What about Jenna Maroney?!

  12. 12

Not sure about this choice. Would rather have seen a raspy singer with some acting skills, like Pink or Kelly Clarkson, get the role instead. But, I wish Amy luck!

  13. 13

Could be an Oscar worthy performance!

  14. 14

Maybe she'll do a good job? I've never thought she was that great an actress or looked or sounded like Janis, but then again, look what an amazing job charlize Theron did in Monster.

  15. 15

Crystal Bowersoxs should be the one to do it. At least she looks like her and has the chops to pull it off!!!!! Anyone can be taught to act

  16. 16

What the hell, it was supposed to be JENNA MARONIE!

  17. 17

What a terrible choice! Janis was rough around the edges and was about as rock n roll as you can get. Amy Adams was great in Enchanted but…. Cmon!

  18. 18

Amy Adams???????? I can't see it! Awhile ago I heard Pink was being considered for the part - now THAT would be awesome-

  19. 19

Wow, that is a major, major, major miscasting…I don't care how much Adams' name helps procure funding. She doesn't have the angst, the voice…ugh, SO WRONG.

  20. 20

Crystal Bowersox (runner up in last American Idol) would be a good choice.

  21. 21

    Re: caroaber

wow, you really need to bone up on your music history. Janis is a legend. there will never be another, because of the timing. she was the first female ROCK STAR.

  22. 22

City of God was amazing, so it should be excellent. It looks like they're doing the typical Hollywood thing, and are making Janis far better looking than she actually was, just like they did with June Carter Cash in Walk the Line, which I don't like.

    i was hoping pink

  24. shen! says – reply to this

i'd love to see this movie…Janis Joplin was phenomenal

  25. 25

Is "you" too hard for "U" to spell, Mario? You, all too often, write and spell like a grammar school dropout.

Adams is a great choice for the role.

  26. 26

Seriously? First, she looks nothing like Janis. Also, judging by her imdb movie list with such masterpieces as Leap Year, Night at the Museum, Talladega Nights, & Enchanted on her resume I sincerely doubt she has the acting chops to portray Janis with the integrity she deserves. Does this chick have the ability to pull off the painful & gritty scenes the film is sure to have without it coming off as fake or corny? And what are they gonna do with the vocals?! I doubt this chick can sing & there's no way in hell you're gonna convince anyone that Janis' voice is coming out of her. They're gonna have a really hard time pulling this off without it looking like either a joke or an insult.

  27. 27

They'll have to "ugly" her up a bit, like Charlize Theron did in "Monster." I like Amy Adams, though!

  28. 28

    how about Courtney love?

  29. 29

I agree with everyone that says they'll have to ugly her up. Janis' homeliness is the key to her character. It is what drove her. She was voted ugliest man on campus for crying out loud. So, this will be a stretch for Amy Adams, but I think she may have the depth of talent to pull it off.

  30. 30

Ewww….I can't stand this chick. I dunno what it is about her, perhaps her high sugary sweet voice…pretty bad casting.

  31. 31

    Re: ebliss447
dude, i was just thinking that! actually, i thought jackie jormp-jomp already came out. whatever.

  32. 32

jamie jentler … too much 30 rock LMFAO

  33. 33

She isnt who i imagened for the great janis joplin…i grew up listening to janis thanks to my hippie mom and i think she just might throw a major hissy fit if she finds out amy is playing her icon…but who knows what might happen…

  34. 34

Adams is so talented. I think she'll knock this one out of the park. I can't wait to see it.

  35. 35

The film should have been made years ago and used Joan Osborne as the lead.

  36. 36

Pink would have been a great choice
I really dont understand HOLLYWOOD anymore

  37. 37

i don't have anything personally against amy adams other than she can't really act but this is just insulting!!!! really they couldn't find someone with a soul voice? they should've chosen dana fuch from across the universe shes got a great soul vocie like janis and has similar features

  38. 38

    Jane Krakowski must be devastated.

  39. 39

    YES! Great casting!

  40. 40

Re: JimmyStewartLover – totally agree with you!!! they need some one with a voice and talent!

  41. 41

What happened to Pink and Renee Zellweger (and I believe Melissa Etheridge, Lili Taylor, Brittany Murphy, etc.)? And let us not forget Kristin Chenoweth in the never-made Dusty Springfield bio.

  42. 42

Great casting choice! Much better than that carpet-muncher Melissa Etheridge.

  43. 43

Too bad. I could barely stand her annoying voice in the Julie-Julia movie. And the awful wig she wore.

  44. 44

    Jenna Maroney's gonna be pissed!

  45. 45

Odd choice. I remember Amy singing at the Oscars and her voice is very light and sweet and nothing like Janis Joplin, and added to the lack of any physical similarites it seems a bad call. I have never seen Amy Adams take on a serious role, but I do think she is a good actress so hopefully she can pull it off. If it was up to me I would probably cast Courtney Love, she is such a drug addled hot mess that should would even need to act.

  46. 46

I always thought Sara Gilbert looked like Janis Joplin.

  47. 47

i love her but i really dont want to see her in every movie that comes out

  48. 48

She most certainly will have to have a prosthetic nose. She looks nothing like Joplin.

  49. 49

I love Janis, but Amy Adams is waaaay to pretty to play her.

Btw, slag ghostwriter, it's generally just referred to as a biopic, not a BioPic or bio-pic. I know you guys are trying, but you're all still too stupid for your own good.

  50. 50

While I adore her as an actress, she would not even be on my list of people to play Janis Joplin. There was a theater production called "Love Janis" that played on Bleecker Street in NYC for quite some time. Any of the leads from that show would have been perfect. Janis is known for her voice - it would be appropriate to have someone play her who has a voice that came from heaven, as well. Again, Adams is lovely and she's a wonderful actress but she is not appropriate for this part.

  51. 51

BLAH. Studio's are just putting out a bunch of crap. WHERE THE HELL DID ALL THE TALENT IN HOLLYWOOD GO?! Screw the studios. They all suck now.

  52. 52

Oh, yes! This a chance for her to prove how good she is!

  53. 53

♫♫ Na Na Na Nanana Nawwwwwo ♫♫ Fuck her and her carefully honed sqeeky cleaness. There are so many more worthy than her. Do Janis justice and honor her corerrectly or leave it alone. This sucks.

  54. 54

no! it should be kate hudson.

  55. 55

I wouldv'e voted Joss Stone! I hope she has the chops to justify Janis!

  56. 56

they better not gloss over the fact that she was a lesbian

  57. 57

With that chirpy, high pitched voice???? Good fucking choice.

  58. 58

Re: DoubleD – yeah ur rite Crystal Bowersox, does look a lot like Janis Joplin and kind of sounds like her too.. Amy Adams it's just like she is a good actress but who the fuck is the person who picked her to play Janis Joplin it's almost as bad as Dakota fanning playing Cherri currie (no offsense) I def. Think Crystal Bowersox wuld be the best choice!

  59. 59

I love Amy Adams but she is a horrible choice to play Janis Joplin… Her voice is like, the complete opposite. Not only singing but just speaking as well.

    Sounds boring anyway.

  60. 60

Not that I think she will be bad, but I think Maggie Gyllenhaall would have been the perfect choice.

  61. 61

No way I would have picked Joss Stone!!

  62. 62

I don't see it at all. If she can remotely pull this off I smell an oscar and see pigs flying!

  63. 63

Oh please let this be it and let this movie finally get made!! Janis was amazing. Her music still is and it's time her story is told. I can't wait!!!!

  64. 64

yeah right, let me see the movie in theaters first. we've been hearing this for years !!!

  65. 65

    I had heard Zooey Deschanel.

  66. 66

Why are people talking about ranging of voice? This is a biopic on her life, not a musical. And according to an interview of Meirelles, this movie is not going to be made in 2010, or 2011, so most likely only in 2012. And Zooey Deschanel is also considered. Check your facts…

  67. 67

The part should have gone to Dana Fuchs! She played Sadie in "Across the Universe". Not only could she pull off the look - but she has an absolutely incredible voice!!! Poor casting on this one!!

  68. 68

horrible choice Dana fuchs from across the universe should have gotten it!!

  69. 69

didn't think she could sing very well
hope that's a baadd pic of her

  70. 70

i knew janis joplin and anyone hollywood chooses to portray her has to have TALENT.
the night i met her at the Filmore Auditorium she had a huge shoulder bag fillled with every brand of alcohol in bottles the size airlines use - she "clanked" when she walked. she was in her "shy/removed" persona.
my friend buddy miles introduced us and she told buddy that, "he didn't need me for the night", grabbed my hand and out we went to bars, bookstores, clubs, cafes and finally to her house, where i saw another side of her.
she became withdrawn and quiet. then she started drinking/smoking and became the persona that made her famous.
a multi-talented, multiple personality wonderful lady.
who knows ? maybe amy adams can pull it off…
