Is This The Best You Can Do, Pixar??

pixar-cars-large.jpg

Pixar is usually flawless when it comes to movie ideas, but we're not sure about this one!

To go along with the upcoming Cars 2 and CARS-Toons short films, which will be released next year, Pixar is developing a straight-to-DVD spin-off titled Planes. PLANES.

We all know that everything Pixar touches turns to gold, but we think this sounds like such a lame idea!

With the success of the WALL-E, Up, Finding Nemo, and of course the Toy Story movies, we have to wonder, why would Pixar focus their energies on such a mediocre franchise?

Will it be a sure hit like the others? We don't know….

What do U think?

"WE" think you are a bad idea but claim to be successful nonetheless. Go figure.

Yeah and you are one to judge about wheter something is good or not…BTW how are Slimy and Travis doing? I heard they were playing at the local McDonald's…

  3. 3

They need an Incredibles sequel, not one for Cars.

It's gotta be because of the merchandising. Anyone who has a little boy (or little brother, nephew, etc.) knows how many Cars toys are out there….and keep coming out. They just issued a new set of die-cast Cars into the stores last month. I dare say the merchandising has made more for Disney/Pixar than the movie.

That is the Disney touch in action. Disney is all about the straight to DVD cheap to make cheap to distribute films. It also helps that they can release a toy line. It is just too bad that Pixar will be brought down a notch by this kind of behavior

  6. 6

I think you are a judgmental hypocryte who needs a hug Perez,Mario, sister, whoever.

  7. 7

Mediocre? Are you out of your mind? Like you said, everything Pixar touches turns to gold. Why wouldn't Planes do the same? Every little boy I have ever met loves playing with their toy airplane, so, why wouldn't they love a show revolving around planes? Every one of my nephews have a Lightning McQueen toy, or poster, or sheets, or coloring book, etc. Cars is a goldmine to this day.
Just because you would rather play with Barbies doesn't mean other kids do too.

  8. 8

    I will watch it, I'm Pixar-Fan.

  9. 9

Are you nuts? Cars was great, my kid is obsessed with it!

  10. 10

Most little boys love planes, trains, automobiles and spacecraft-my six-year-old included. I've never met a kid who doesn't like watching planes take off and land at airports either. I don't know why you'd think this is such a dumb idea, Perez.

  11. 11

Perez do your research before you write. These "new" Pixar things are actually gonna be side projects made from Pixars extension Pixar-Canada. Meaning these new "films" are just projects done by other animators in ANOTHER studio in Vancouver.
-.- Gosh some people are funny.

  12. 12

Perez, Cars is HUGE with children. You aren't a parent so you don't know! Trust me, the kids will flip for it!

  13. 13

It's all about the toys. They are making a cars 2 so they can sell more toys. That's why they pick it for a sequel over other movies, because they can sell more toys through a cars sequel.

Most of the time that's how tv channels pick what cartoons to keep. It all depends on the toy sales.

  14. 14

Cars is WILDLY popular. My nephew fucking LOVES Cars.
For him its all about Spiderman, Transformers and Cars. That is a very very successful idea.
go to target, they have cars everything. IM suprised theres no Cars cereal

  15. 15

Re: kittykat3544 – I know! The Incredibles was such an awesome movie, why don't they make another one?
it would be a huge huge hit

  16. 16

Yes, because you are such the authority on what will be a hit and what won't. That is why you have a career in the movie busi…..oh wait….no you don't. You are just a group of jackasses who get off on making fun of people because you were picked on as children.

  17. 17

Of all the Pixar movies, Cars was the worst…BUT it also had the best tie in to toys and merchandise for little boys. Up may have been a better movie but Cars sells more toys. Apparently you know nothing about business.

  18. 18

Re: Sexsai – i agree too. loved that movie. didn't see cars until way after it was out.

  19. 19

why do you speak in plural stupid motherfucker? the little kids love Cars so it'll be a hit

I think you underestimate the fascination young masculine boys have with planes. (older men too actually). I don't understand it but I know all of my four young brothers would be glued to the tv if they heard it was featuring planes.

  21. 21

Perez- You are such a hateful depressing self-centered person.

  22. 22

perez you really don'y know what your talking about not only did cars make $461,982,881, it also won Best Animated Feature and best song. i would love to see a cars 2. like you said everything pixar touches turns to gold

  23. 23

Okay…you obviously don't hand around anyone under the age of 7. Kids love this movie! My friend's 5 year old son is obsessed with Cars. I think it's a smart move for Pixar…it's guaranteed bank.

  24. 24

Listen. My son is 2. If he even hears a rumble he looks up and starts yelling PANE PANE PANE. Every time he see's one or a helicopter he goes BERSERK!

Seriously… its a fantastic idea, and is going to hit an even younger age group as well.

Kids (especially boys) have fascinations with them.!!!!

The name might not be the most creative, especially from an adults point of view- but for a kid… all they'll be yelling out for is "PANE PANE PANE"

    trust me!

    :)

  25. 25

hmmm, who should we side with? Pixar and their spotless track record or Buckethead here who's wrong on about 80% of the things he reports on??

  26. 26

Pixar whatever it touches turns to gold. Perez whatever he touches is a failure where's Travis?

  27. 27

My son LOVES LOVES LOVES Cars. He's 3. He doesn't care about a story line or whatever. Its Cars.

I agree with everyone else, Perez, if you have kids you know this will be a hit.

  28. 28

Maybe if Pixar made a movie about anal beads and gerbils you'd like it. What do YOU think?

  29. 29

"Mediocre"?????? I'm sorry, I have to disagree. I am the mother of 3 little boys, and they are OBSESSED with Cars. It is also MY all-time favorite kids movie, and I'm not just saying that. Toy Story may be really popular right now because of a new movie coming out… but the little kids watching Toy Story 3 weren't even alive when the first 2 came out! lol. I would have to disagree with you Perez and say that Cars is far, far, FAR more popular than Wall-E, UP or Finding Nemo.

  30. 30

Cars is definitely the worst of the Pixar films so far (for those of us who aren't children who don't really care about movies, that is). But I agree with some of the comments.. kids love it and it is bound to make a lot of money. I was also questionable about Toy Story 2 and 3 because sequels are usually terrible, but both were very good and just as entertaining as part 1. I hope Pixar keeps up the good work, but trying to keep up such a high level of perfection every time is bound to set you up for a big public failure eventually.

  31. 31

They need to make a finding Nemo 2………..I love Ellen Degeneres……it would be awesome!!!!!!!

    32

    No, you're lame.

Is this the best you can do in your life, Perez? Run a gossip blog? LAME.

  33. 33

Does it really matter what Perez or his sister say about entertainment anyway? He claimed Avatar bombed on opening weekend and that it was a flop.

Furthermore he shills crappy pop acts like Kesha and his self signed Sliimy. His opinion is irrelevant.

  34. 34

How can you possibly state it is a "mediocre franchise" when you know nothing more than the title? I'm sure the Pixar people know what they are doing. They are not about to tarnish the reputation that they have.

  35. 35

Well the kiddies need something to watch too.

  36. 36

I thought Cars was really good. My nephew loves that movie- it's his all time favorite to this day. He's super excited for the new one.

  37. 37

The last time they were going to release something straight to dvd (Toy Story 2), Disney was forcing their hand. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is happening again.

  38. 38

I'm sure it will be a hit. I'm a Pixar fan (Toy Story came out when I was 11, and Up quickly became my favorite animated film EVER), and a mother of 2- and 4-year-old Pixar fans, and I can tell you now they will make sure we're at the theater the minute it comes out.

  39. 39

Planes will be great! I know if this happens my kids WILL see this and WILL own it.

  40. 40

Why?? Kids. My toddler watches the Cars movie on repeat whenever I allow him, and so does every other toddler I know. Disney has the characters slapped on everything from t-shirts and potty's (which has actually helped me to train him) to baby wipes and toothbrushes, all of which I have purchased, and if there was a straight to dvd cars feature I would get that too to break up the watching of the same movie everytime he gets some quiet time. If they did a version called Trains it would probably be just as if now more successful. But until you have a toddler you probably would get that.

  41. 41

i think its a fine idea. if i watch to watch Cars (and hear that rascal flats song) with the boys i babysit one more time I am throwing it out.

  42. 42

its a cartoon for kids…STFU and get over it…could u seriously care that they are making a straight to dvd movie, so what…there r plenty of kids out there that will get their parents to buy the movie rather its not going to theaters first or not, their KIDS dickheard! im sure it will make money either way.

  43. 43

Planes is being produced at DisneyToon Studios — not Pixar.

  44. 44

PBS did that years and years ago and it was called 'Jay Jay the Jet Plane. But I have to admit; I used to go home for lunch, and it was the only thing on TV during the hour other than the day time soaps and it was addictive. I can see how kids might really get into it, and I can see the toystore shelves now. Full of little planes with smiley faces. Search Jay Jay and take a look for yourself. What do you think?

  45. 45

Steve Jobs is a genius so your critique of him and Pixar means NOTHING! They know soooo much more than you Perez. You are famous for what? A blog?

  46. 46

ok…we who??? Pixar is a genious… they weren't sure about Nemo, and it was a success..hello…speak for yourself

  47. 47

    Re: sreyn – RE: 5
Disney touch? Pixar runs Disney. So, no, this is not "Disney" doing this. John Lasseter is Chief Creative Officer of both studios.

  48. 48

Every toy my 4 yr old son owns can somehow magically fly. Why NOT planes. Brilliant!
