Good for her!

Constance McMillen is being paid $35,000 in damages from the Fulton, Mississippi school district after they discriminated against her when she wanted to bring her girlfriend to prom.

The school district has also agreed to adopt a policy banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Constance says:

"I'm so glad this is all over. I won't ever get my prom back, but it's worth it if it changes things at my school."

Hear, hear!

I'm glad things worked out for her…. but please leave the word hero for those who are deserving of the title. How come you think all gay people are heroes?

  2. 2

    Sick of hearing about this…..

  3. 3

I can't believe this sort of thing happens in the U.S. A lot of people go like, "wah, I'm gay and I don't have a prom! Big deal." How is NOT a big deal? The staff forged a prom so should we won't go the real one. Just because she was GAY! She deserves more in damages. You go Constance! Discrimination is horrible.

  4. 4

Good for her. Fyi, it's "Here-Here" not "Hear-Hear".

  5. 5

    Good news.
Hope the school district follows through on their plans to stop discrimination.
Hard to believe school officials did not know that banning her from prom was the wrong thing to do. Hope they have learned how to step into the 21st century.

  6. 6

i'm so sick of this girl. ok, you're gay, good for you. now go away

  7. 7

GOOD FOR HER! She's had to suffer so much from that fucking school! WAY TO GO CONSTANCE!! FUCK THOSE OTHER HILLBILLY BACKWATER MISSISSIPPI BIGOTS!!

  8. 8

Yeah this was a terrible situation. Glad she was vindicated. Nicky you homophobic piece of shit, you probably would have told Rosa Parks to shut up as well.

  9. 9

    THAT enough for college.

  10. 10

    Aka
"I am so glad I got 35,000 dollars, all for just being a stupuid lesbian"

  11. 11

Good, she deserves the money! She can use it for college.
When I was in high school, there were lesbian couples at our prom, and that was 11 years ago. No one had an issue with it. A few immature boys laughed, but the school certainly didn't care. I grew up in a conservative area, too.

  12. 12

At my school, two girls are not allowed to go with each other to prevent teenage girls from bringing their friends who should not be at the prom (Freshman, Sophomores). It's the same for gay and straight people, and it really prevents overcrowding at dances. It's a good rule, and most of the homosexuals find a way to work around it by going by themselves but together. Not everything is discrimination.

  13. 13

Kaching! It was always about the money wasn't it? Now take some of that money and join Weight Watchers you fat cow.

  14. 14

    Good for her!
She should have received a lot more than $35,000 from that backwoods bigot school district too!
We live in the "land of the free" with "equal rights for all" and this shit still goes on!
    Disgusting!
That school district and all the religious right busy-body bigots should be ashamed of themselves!
Good job Constance for fighting this ridiculousness!
    EQUALITY FOR ALL!

  15. 15

she doesn't deserve the money, because so many others are lesbian also and if it's only for the cash ~

  16. 16

And just think, if she hadn't made such a huge deal out of who she was going with, she may have ended up going to the prom after all and not getting a 35k payout.

  17. 17

    Re: reretaliation 176Re: SeeinStarz
Wow, thank you for proving my point.

  18. 18

I would suggest to Constrance that she use the money to go to college and kiss that back ass town goodbye.

  19. 19

She deserves the money? She got lucky with all the media attention… She should give the money to an organization.

  20. 20

hey i can be lesbian too, then i would receive some money right?

  21. 21

$35,000 for a prom? Holy Crap!! What a tool. This idiot got her 15 minutes of fame and $35k to boot (plus a lot of $$ for interviews I am sure). The rest of the kids get NOTHING. She wrecked a lot of other kids senior year by bringing a lot of unnecessary publicity to the kids school. $35k to her probably seems like $1,000,000. She will waste it all and wind up living in a trailer park in podunk Mississippi or on the streets of NY or Hollywood trying to get famous. She makes me want to puke.

  22. 22

    Pig!

  23. 23

Re: PROF.Buk0wski ENGLISH PROF OF THE CENTU – lol you're totally missing the point, dork.

  24. 24

Re: reretaliation 176 – What are you 14??

  25. clh30 says – reply to this

    25

Good for her. Discrimination is discrimination no matter what the topic is about. She stood up for herself and that is whats important!

  26. 26

And now every other student at the school should sue her for ruining THEIR prom…especially now that she has money.

  27. 27

Re: retardo81 – Your screen name says it all…

  28. 28

i am so happy 4 her .she deserve it from those
    [rude,mean,hateful,people.{way 2go girl}gay is the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  29. 29

This is another disgraceful post from Perez. You want to call someone a "hero"? Take a trip to Afghanistan and see our boys in action. Don't call this little lesbian no fucking hero.

  30. 30

Re: heidiii – yout a fucking dumbass its a ploy to hide the discrimination you r fucking retard

  31. 31

Re: nicky45 – She is a hero for standing up for her rights and not backing down to ignorance. Not because she is gay, DUH.

  32. 32

$35,000 is NOT enough for the torture she went through! geez people down there are such homophobes!

  33. 33

Re: Twoboys2 – 'McMillen has moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she plans to attend Southwest Community College in the spring, majoring in psychology. She said she'll use the settlement money for her college education.'

  34. 34

    um no one cares…move on

  35. @v@ says – reply to this

    35

Wow. That's a nice start towards any future career. She stuck to her guns, but it was no picnic for her.

  36. 36

She made her point, she was discriminated, i get it, she was on every tv show talking about this, instead of getting the money she should of get some type of law passed for this situation so that we don't hear about it again. The people that come in contact with her in the future better watch what you say about her or she'll suit you.If I were her (which I thank God I'm not) I'll return the money.

  37. 37

IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH, I'M GLAD SHE WON…

    EQUALITY FOR ALL

    Re: heidiii
    -
PEOPLE SHOULD NOT AND DO NOT HAVE TO FIND A WAY AROUND IT!!
    -
In March, a federal judge ruled that McMillen's First Amendment rights were violated when her school district refused to let her attend her prom in a tux with a girl.

YOUR SCHOOL BETTER CHANGE ITS WAYS OR START A SAVINGS ACCOUNT!

    HI :) AGREED!

  38. 38

fuck yeah… those bigoted assholes just paid for a couple years of college for her :D

    constance is a strong woman.

  39. 39

    Re: bryanlizza

    FUCK the troops :D

  40. 40

At first, I felt really bad for this girl. But now I'm just sick of her ass. And now a school district had to pay her $35,000. Wow, that's fucked up, considering that money could have been used for computers, field trips, etc. I'm so sick of you calling all gays "heroes". What about war veterans?? Jesus Christ, get your priorities in order people! This girl is milking this situation for everything it's worth!

  41. 41

Re: ladyolivia – FUCK YOU YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!!! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU SAY THAT!!

  42. 42

Very few people actually get to make a significant difference in the world. Constance, you have actually, made an impactful change so that other young people will not have to go through what you have. You should be proud and if I were your parent, I would be proud of you for standing up for yourself as well as righting the world! Bless you!

  43. 43

    hell yea girl!

  44. 44

OH SHUT UP ALREADY! AND they gave her money?! What is this world coming to?!

  45. 45

Re: nicky45 – My point exactly!

  46. 46

Re: ladyolivia – I feel sorry for you…it's becuse of those troops that you have the rights you have you imbecile!

  47. 47

So, next year, at every high school across the country, a gay person(male or female, doesn't matter)will be trying the exact same thing in order to "Make a point" Translation: get a payout.Nice trend to be setting.

  48. 48

    Re: KittyKatt
    -
You have those rights because of the Constitution not because of people fighting in the two pointless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan… Neither of those nations are where ever a threat to the Rights of Americans.
    -
The school was breaching the rights of Constance McMillen she stood up for her rights and the court sided with her! She is a hero for standing up for her human rights!
    -
    Re: ladyolivia
    -
The wars maybe stupid but the troops are just supporting their families and doing the job their Elected leaders have tasked them with…
    -
    Re: tinyguyincanada
    -
IF THE SCHOOLS ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO IGNORE A FEDERAL COURT RULING THEN THE SCHOOLS WILL BE SUED AND RIGHTLY SO THE PRECEDENT HAS BEEN SET DENYING SAME SEX COUPLES EQUAL RIGHT AT SCHOOL IS ILLEGAL THAT INCLUDES THE RIGHT TO BRING THEIR PARTNERS.
    -
THE COURT ALSO RULED MALES AND FEMALES CAN DRESS HOW THE CHOOSE!

  49. 49

Good for her… Go with your girlfriend whatever your want to and the rest of the people who don't like just don't look ! End of the history!

  50. 50

While she definitely should have been paid damages, 35,000 worth is insane. A prom doesn't even cost that much. I call attention whore.

  51. 51

Re: cuppcakez – Okay, Perez usually makes out every single homosexual to be a hero. Someone who stands up for what they believe in IS a hero. Someone who is homosexual is not automatically one. There are plenty of horrible homosexuals, just like there are plenty of horrible straights.

Besides, this girl was clearly in it for the money, unless she gives it to a LGBT organization. Especially since this did not deserve so much money. Unless, again, it is for an organization.

  52. 52

Re: neraki13 – She didn't make a difference. She's using that money for herself, rather than a good LGBT organization. She didn't even deserve that much.

  53. 53

    Re: kayykatastrophii – 51
    -
You wrote "Besides, this girl was clearly in it for the money"
    -
Yeah right so Constance McMillen made the school discriminate against her ?
    -
The money is hers to do with as she so chooses She set a Federal precedent or authority.
    -
Which is a legal case establishing a principle or rule that a court or other judicial body may utilize when deciding on a similar mater..
    -
No gay person can be denied bringing a same sex partner to prom!
    -
No gay person can be denied from prom because they are gay!
    -
No person can be forced to wear gender specific clothing to school or prom!
    -
She has already done that the money is hers to do with as she wants!
    -
    Equality won the Haters lost!

    54

WTH! 35,000 dollars!? "Wont ever get my prom back…" OH PLEASE! Prom isn't even that big of deal and getting 35,000's for missing it is ridiculous. I understand it was discrimination and that isn't right but people get discriminated every-freaking-day and I dont see them getting 35,000 dollars!?

  55. 55

Re: Aussieone – She's in it for the money because she's using it for herself. People who are fighting for a cause usually use any money they get for a relevant organization, since the money doesn't matter to them, just getting equal rights for all.

  56. 56

what about the fact she took 35,00 from a public school. The school should get in trouble for discrimination but if it happened to me I would never want money taken away that is for a school, for students. Does not seem like a fight if you take money from something that is struggling for it.

  57. 57

$35,000 for losing your virginity to a strap-on. Really?

  58. 58

    Re: quorum – wow.

  59. 59

This is what happens when we let lawyers and judges makes our laws rather than the PEOPLE. The prom was cancelled for everyone - how it is then that just her rights were violated? Seems the cancellation was perfectly equal. That a private prom occured is not the business of the school and/or court system. Just another feel good judgment that further weakens our country.
