Decisions, Decisions! Who Will Play The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo???

| Filed under: Film FlickersEllen PageKristen Stewart

It's starting to become one of the most coveted roles in young Hollywood!

With a December 2011 release date set and a lot of pressure to not be shitty, Sony Pictures has to light a fire under it's production of their adapation of the mystery novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The biggest hurdle to date seems to be which young actress will step into the shoes of the book's most coveted character, Lisbeth Salander.

As of now, there are a lot of names being thrown around, from Ellen Page to Mia Wasikowska, from Carey Mulligan to Kristen Stewart. (Ugh! Her again!?)

Competition is steep and as of now, there is no front runner, but if they want to make that 2011 deadline, somebody better pick one!

Our choice: Carey Mulligan… or really anyone else beside KStew!

Who would U like to see in the role?

HATE Kstew! Ellen Page is also a little too faux-sullen also. i'd go w/ either one of the blonde girls.

  2. 2

None of the above mentioned people would be a good Lisbeth!!! Especially NOT Kristen Stewart nor Ellen Paige nor Cary Mulligan. The casting will not necessarily make this move but could definitely break it!!!!

  3. 3

NO THANK YOU. I WILL STICK TO THE SWEDISH VERSION. what? americans are lazy to read subtitles so they gotta make a shitty remake?

  4. 4

    Carey Mulligan!!

  5. 5

Is it not already a film? :S

  6. 6

None of them are good choices. I guess careys an okay choice. Sony should find a new face for the role none of the girls above are quirky enough for Lisbeths character

  7. 7

    Ellen Page!

  8. 8

    Re: Soulsoulshock

Agreed! I suppose if there is going to be a remake, the producers should cast an unknown.

  9. 9

    hope it's kristen.

  10. 10

Again?? Just watch the original swedish verision instead of ANOTHER WATERED DOWN AMERICAN REMAKE.

  11. 11

Are you NUTS? Christina Ricci all the way!!!

  12. asb25 says – reply to this

None of them would be good for Lisbeth. I love Ellen Page but she still would be a horrible choice for the part.

  13. 13

NONE OF THEM WOULD BE GOOD! All of those girls either don't have the look or the skill to fulfill that role. I think that they shouldn't remake the movie, we always ruin great books with craptastic movies.

However, if they do need to cast somebody I'd say Mila Kunis. She is small, looks tough and it would be a great role for her. But even then, i don't know. Maybe find somebody out of the spotlight. But Brad Pitt would be a good Blomvkist, it'd bring me back to his dark days when he made movies like Seven!

  14. 14

I don't think they'll do better than Noomi Rapace. She was excellent in that role.

  15. 15

    Kiera Knightly.

  16. 16

Any of them but Kristen Stewart….ughhh. Who is it that keeps putting her in movies???

  17. 17

SHUT UP!!! I just sat at my desk and watched this on a site ( shhh) and the damn thing cut off at the end so i have NO idea how it ends and here you go Perez posting this…..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH please NOT Kristen S…. the whole film will like gasping for effing air!

  18. 18

Yea, I agree. There is no need for a crappy American version.

  19. Woko says – reply to this

If, and only if, she could keep her rabbit teeth under control Kristen Stewart might be good. LS is not very expressive and doesn't say a whole lot. Basically the characters around her give us the insight into her mind. (Other than the second book's beginning). I think the character of MB is more important to cast.

  20. 20

what's wrong with the swedish version? that actress was awesome. and didn't that version JUST get released?

  21. 21

  22. 22

Ugh, not Kstew, please! She'd ruin the movie. If I was 4'11" I'd travel to Hwood and audition!

  23. 23

Such a great movie!! Kstew ruins everything…..I think Ellen Page would be great, but completely agree with the comment below…..another watered down american remake…if people in this country weren't so lazy, they'd watch the original and just read the subtitles…no use butchering the original simply to cater to the illiterate american public.

  24. 24

How about not making the movie at all? Or stick to the original cast!!!
No one can take Naomis place as Lisbeth, no one will do her as good as she did.
I love Kristen as an actress but I don't think she can pull it of as good, she maybe will do a good job after I seen her as Joan Jett but Lisbeth is well, it's hard to explain but it's a hard role to play and to play good. The original movies are fantastic and I love the books, they are some of the best ones I've ever read and that says allot because I don't usually read that kind of books.
Care wouldn't make a good Lisbeth, she is good but she looks to sweet, the same goes for Mia. Ellen? Not sure if she could pull it of either, she is really good but that role?
Take the original or someone unknown, but either way it wont be as good as the original. Why do they have a remake? Because some Americans are to lazy to read? It will properly be sex, blood, sex, that it will be more focus on instead of the amazing story line.

  25. 25

BTW, Kristen wont play Lisbeth because she have other movies on her list. She have already confirmed it when she was in Sweden.

  26. 26

none of them. they need an open audition this part is too extreme to keep constricted to a listers

  27. 27

Not Ellen Page for the love of God. I would rather sit through another Kristen Stewart performance. The Runaways wasn't THAT bad.

  28. 28

    Betty white of course.

  29. 29

I hate to say it but after reading the book kristen stewart would be the best pick for this role.. hands down…she just fits the part ..as much as i m sick of seeing her in everything

  30. 30

okay i have watched this movie twice and i believe that kristen should get the role
she has the characteristics from the girl from the original movie, and she seems like
the perfect one to do this movie. and im pretty sure she is more willing to do it

  31. 31

Actually the best choice for Lisbeth Salander is Amy Winehouse….

  32. 32

Why can't Americans just watch tje original movie, the movie was great, why does it need a remake?

  33. 33

definitely Carey Mulligan-she is exactly who I pictured while reading the books.

  34. 34

Isn't there a movie out at Blockbuster? It came out 2 weeks ago.

  35. 35

I saw the Swedish release last night and, though I love my America, Hollywood better not touch this film unless they can really do it justice like the original. It has to be raw and gritty and true and not a cleaned up Disney version. Would love to see a brilliant unknown or relative unknown in the role.

  36. 36

I thought that this movie was already out, and now girl that plays with fire is due to come out.

  37. 37

kstew…if you read the book you'd realize she would be great on the role..

  38. 38

If the character doesn't have to be a white woman I know alot of great new actresses.

  39. 39

GAH! NONE OF THE ABOVE!! Don't be so LAZY!
Just watch the fricking Swedish movies darnit! Noomi Rapace is awesome as Lisbeth.

  40. 40

I'm going to have to agree with soulsoulshock. The Swedish version was very good and anything else will probably be a disappointment.

  41. 41

Uhh! I am sooo over Elin Page. She's not that great. I agree with the person who said Christina Ricci.

  42. Jaded says – reply to this

While I don't think the movie needs to be remade and I don't like her I ahv eot say the Kristen is right for the part. Lisabeth doesn't do much other than brood and stare and then in book two becomes just slightly psychotic. She's not a very expressive character. She like a punk rock, hard core, tattooed, brooding, Kristen Stewart.

  43. 43

Re: rosmmp – yeah i would say mila kunis but shes not as young as the others

  44. Yuki says – reply to this

Katherine Moennig would be great for this role

  45. 45

KSTEW!!! i think she's great actress and pretty to look at too

  46. 46

Re: cupidsarrow – Really? She is good and all but she is to sweet for that part.

  47. 47

Ellen could probably pull it off because she is that good. But she is still not right.
No one on YOUR LIST was right. The wrong casting for this film will DOOM it. Blomkvist will be much easier. His character is not defined with all of the hard edges that Salander is/has.
I would rather them not do an American version unless they get the casting just PURrrFECT.
They can't put anyone famous in the role. It will be too distracting from the oddness of her character.
Maybe they should use an unknown, and truly aspergian actress.

  48. ALW says – reply to this

I agree with Soulsoulshock….the Swedish version was awesome. Why redo a crappy Hollywood version?

  49. 49

No one can match Noomi Repace as Lisbeth Salander

  50. 50

kstew actually fits the part best! like her, or not - she is lisbeth.

  51. 51

    YOU ARE right!
If KM was a decade younger….she would be IT!

  52. 52

ellen page is the best choice because lisbeth is supposed to be a pretty average looking woman. Not saying that ellen is ugly, i think she's adorable but the other women are more classical looking and i think ellen could pull it off.

  53. 53

No matter who they pick they are never gonna be able to replicate what was done in the swedish version Noomi was that role. Hollywood doesnt need to destroy this trilogy just leave it to the Swedes they know what they are doing.

  54. 54

Re: skarsies – yup deffently agree

  55. 55

It could be Milla Jovovich or Carey Mulligan. The character is supposedly a bisexual, tough looking, withdrawn woman sporting a rocker look.

  56. 56

This is already a movie. It's coming out in a little indie theatre where I live in like a week…. uh what?

  57. 57

Please let it NOT be Ellen Page. She is so annoying. Kristen seems like the best match to the actual character. I couldn't care less about her personal life or perez's defamation spree

  58. 58

    ANYONE BUT KRISTEN STEWART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i happen to like this book and don't want it ruined.

I picture a goth Hilarie Burton and a good lookin older man like Jeffrey Dean Morgan

  59. 59

Actually it's none of them!! Today it was announced that the 5 candidates are 3 Australian girls, an american&a French girl; I only know Emma Browning from various films, the rest I'm not familiar with, never seen them in a anything

  60. Sola says – reply to this

Fucking Americans! why the fuck do you need to destroy something amazing??
Learn to read subTexts!! Swedish is not that hard to listen to…

  61. 61

    natalie portman, hands down.

  62. 62

they already made a movie of this… why are they making another one?

  63. 63

    Evan Rachel Wood

  64. 64

    SOLA….Fu(k U!
Don't assume All Americans are the same.

  65. 65

I have read all the books in the Trilogy and I have seen the Swedish version of the movie. The whole time I was reading the books, the vision I had of Lisbeth was someone who looked like Samantha Ronson. I know she is not an actress but this was how I pictured the character.

  66. 66

    kat dennigs

  67. 67

Wow. I JUST rented this from the Redbox. Never even heard of it, but you guys are making it sound good. Didn't even know it wasn't in English lol. That's cool though, I watch tons of foreign films. I tend to gravitate towards independent/unknown/hardly ever advertised films. I've discovered they're the most interesting.

  68. 68

Oh, when I looked @ the poster, it looked just like Kristin, but I haven't actually seen the film yet, so idk.

  69. 69

Why do they want to remake the movie!!! Noomi Rapace is the perfect Lisbeth Salander, I would be really disapointed to see someone else in that role! And the movie is perfect the way it is now!!!

  70. 70

    Olivia Munn.

  71. 71

Re: Sola – i believe they are called subtitles not subtexts pal and guess what? the people of america dont decide what the guys in hollywood make
get a clue and stop generalizing that all americans are so bad

  72. 72

Yo-Landi Vi$$er from the South African rap/rave group Die Antwoord was reportedly a possible person up for this role. I would love love love her to play it!! Check her out on youtube…

  73. 73

there is already a movie out of the book, I don't see why because it isn't in english means it has to be remade. It really tarnishes the original world cinema when hollywood gets a hold of them.

  74. 74

Ummmmm, did you READ the book Stupid?

  75. 75

Kristen Stewart is a natural at Athletics.. and she has the warrior like characteristics of an Amazon.. she natually gets respect from averyone.. even if it's grudging respect like the one she gets from, the Pig on two legs, Perez..

She is a bad ass young woman.. she is by nature mysterious and Charismatic… THE BEST!!!….

  76. 76

Noomi Rapace did such an amazing job in the swedish version. It's such a dark role. No disrespect but I don't see any of those actresses pulling it off. This is not a part for little girls.

  77. 77

    Vanessa Burns.

  78. 78

Oh my god, WHY are the Americans remaking this?? The original Swedish versions are amazing. I'm shuddering already at the no doubt butchered effort Hollywood will come out with.

HOWEVER. Should it be absolutely necessary to produce this, KStew might be halfway decent as Lisbeth is about as sullen as she is. What the role required is someone edgy - like Noomi Rapace who ACTUALLY plays Lisbeth in the original films.

  79. 79

    i vote carey

    kristen is too one-dimensional
mia seems to sweet and innocent without a lot of backbone to play the role
ellen page maybe? out of the 4 carey is obviously the most talented, but i think they should either leave the movie as it is or cast an unknown…to be honest none of these girls can fill the role

  80. 80

    definitely Kristen Stewart….PERFECT.

  81. 81

Dude, it's already been done. That said, I say Ellen Page.

  82. 82

    Lindsay LOhan.

  83. 83

if they really must do an American version, Kate Moennig should star in it.

  84. 84

    ELLEN PAGE IS A MUST!!!!!! :D :D

  85. 85

I want to see Natalie Portman play Lisbeth. She is petite, but not a pushover, intelligent, and she can actually act, not just brood in a corner. Natalie all the way!

  86. 86

o shit the fuck up Perez about Kristen Stewart, im sick to death of reading it.

Plus i heard 4 names who were being considered and not one of them was the ones you mentioned. get ur facts straight.

One of them was Emily Browning, cant remember the other 3, they werent names i recognised

  87. 87

Alicia Beth Moore aka Pink. When I first saw the character, she looked thirty something (later I found out she was '24'). If Pink gets some acting lessons, I think she can pull it off. I also thought of Katie Holmes (Pieces of April). That was me thinking of a thirty something year old again. If they're doing an American version, an American actress would be best. I also rented The Runaways. If Kristin's good in that, I might suggest her too (yeah, because I have a say), because they're both young, tough, lesbian, rocker characters.

  88. 88

NOOMI RAPACE played the part and filming is complete.

  89. Elrae says – reply to this

It should be Pink, she has the look and the badass attitude to pull off the character of Lisbeth!

  90. 90

It is already a film and it was good!!

  91. 91

    I don't understand…this movie came out in 2009

  92. 92

There is no need for a remake. Yes, there are subtitles, but do people not realize they can turn it to English? The Swedish version was phenomenal. One of the best films I've seen in a long time. All of the actors did an amazing job. That girl cannot be replaced.

  93. 93

Re: Soulsoulshock – Well said! Couldn't agree more!

  94. 94

How about someone not so trendy
    Jennifer Lawrence

  95. 95

    Mia Wasikowska, of course

  96. 96

humm i thought i read somewhere that mulligen had already signed for the role =\

she looks too sweet to play her imo

  97. 97

Why can't they just release the foreign film to American audiences? It will be ruined by Hollywood and the talentless twit they hire for the lead.

  98. 98

    Natalie Portman!!!

  99. 99

I like Kstew so Fuck You! I like Ellen Page too…… Who ever!

  100. 100

Re: Shanahan – Yes, this is already a film in Sweden… and the girl who plays Lisabeth is AWESOMELY PERFECT. There is no one that could play that part besides her.
