Disney Taking The Haunted Mansion To The Big Screen - With Guillermo del Toro!

And this time, it might not suck!

A few years back, the Disney company sacrificed creativity for $$$ after the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean flick. They rush released a slew of movies based off their most popular theme park attractions, including the Haunted Mansion.

You know you saw it and you know it sucked. It's the one with Eddie Murphy and the kids and Jennifer Tilly is in a ball and some other stupid crap happens.

Well, Disney has seen the error of their ways and following Disney’s Tron: Legacy presentation at Comic-Con today, director Guillermo del Toro popped out to announce he is be developing a NEW big screen adaptation of the Haunted Mansion. Guillermo promises that this time, the movie will actually be "scary" and says that he is not returning any of Eddie Murphy's calls to star.

As for his involvement, Guillermo has a big stake it in: co-producer, co-writer and director!

Now, we have high expectations for this, G! Don't let us down! This better be worth giving the Hobbit up for!

Are U looking forward to a new Haunted Mansion movie?

Lol they may as well crap in a bag and throw it right at Eddie Murphy…

In all fairness it was a pretty nice family movie, which is what Disney's core audience is… or used to be. This will obviously be very different and won't even be suitable for that type of audience.

this looks really scary. I bet you barney pops up

I do hope it's scary and not cheesy.

  4. 4

As a HUGE Haunted Mansion fan I am thrilled! I wasn't really mad at the first film, just the tone wasn't what I had hoped for when I first heard of the project. A more serious treatment by such a awesome director makes my heart beat faster just thinkiong about, CAN'T WAIT! Now, the milion dollar question, who will play Madame Leota? I nominate Tilda Swinton or Cate Blanchett.

Yes!! The first one was cheesy. If they make it scary it will be awesome.

    The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy was a cute enough family movie;
but with Guillermo del Toro at the helm for this version…this will no doubt be a much darker version…so stoked.

Re: lufflyness – I read the article on ABCNews.com. That they will make it a "family" movie that is fun and scary at times. I agree with some people, I wasn't upset with the first film, it just didn't have the tone of the ride. Which is what this film will do. If you have rode the ride there is a story being told and that story was not considered for the first film. The first film didn't have anything bone chilling or that gave you a thrill of being scared. It was light hearted and dragged in places. I'm excited for this revamp!

I think this remake has a tough challenge/opportunity. Obviously people were let down by the first one, but Disney is still "family friendly" so this new sequel will probably won't be scary for children over the age of 13…I dunno…skeptical…

  22. 22

Oh, wow, THIS is exciting!! The Haunted Mansion RULES at Disneyland and to see a movie made of it at this level… WOW!! I can go to bed happy now!! :)
