Alice Tan Ridley, mother of Gabourey Sidibe, has advanced to the semi-final round of America's Got Talent for her singing voice!
Gabby says of her mother:
“I’m really, really proud and really happy for her.She’s always been a singer and so it’s a different way of seeing her. It’s weird that she’s kind of blooming and blossoming a bit, but like, that’s just my mom and that’s what she’s always been doing and so she just has a wider audience now.”

See, this is why i stop watching America's Got Talent after the audition rounds. Ever since season one only singers have one, nobody else, there is no variety, so i said i would stop watching next season after the auditions because a singer will win again. And so far, it looks like that is about to be true.

At times you can be so hateful and act like an ass but today I stand corrected. Thank you for displaying this woman's talent to your millions of viewers and to the world. Her performance was beautiful and breathtaking and she sings with such passion. Why not go a step further and launch a campaign for her like you do with Gaga and the others? Who knows that with this good karma surrounding you - you might be on American Idol after all.

hey "alfabravo" what's with the jealousy, oh i mean the hatefulness directed towards Gabourey? i don't know if she's what you would call conquering Hollywood but she is costarring with Laura Linney in a Showtime series that's directed by Bill Condon called "The Big C". she also has another film in post called "Yelling At The Sky". so alfabravo, remind me what your great claim to fame is? that's what i thought, a big NOTHING!!

Re: xcalibur – Grow up and get a life. There is more to music than Auto-Tuned pop. This woman can sing without the help of electronic wizardry. And she is not "fugly." No one is. Everyone has their own unique beauty.
wow she has a voice…and yes there are a lot of 60 plus people out there who do buy cds …
I want to like her. She's pretty good. But when she was standing on stage during the results show, with her hand cupped to her ear, waiting to hear her name called, that didn't sit well with me. Being cocky, when you haven't quite earned it yet, is childish and unflattering.
Re: Kiki1976 – I have to agree with you on this. I saw that too and it kinda bugged me too. Her daughter can get quite cocky also. I have seen that a couple of times. They need to calm the cockyness down.

it's kareoke with spmeone who sings effortless
but it takes more that the ability to sing in tune and hold a note to touch someone's heart through song…
maybe if she sang original pieces her style would come through better…
you can't do gladys and sound anything but a poor man's version…
she has a great story and looks fantastic with make-up.
