      I hope she's not encouraging Shiloh to dress like a boy all the time in order to have an "edgy" kid. I don't get it. She says Shiloh wants to be a boy like she's proud of it.

      I hate to sound so pessimistic, because I WANT to believe St. Angie is just that, a child-loving, philanthropic, self-realized woman, but something about her personal life (not her charity work) wreaks of a veneer itching to be pulled back. Behind that so called serenity likes something….addiction? a mania? A control freak? I don't know. It just seems to be oozing out of her on some level.

      I'm sorry, lovely looking kids, but something about the whole thing is just ridiculous to me. I can't see this kids developing stably through adulthood. It's just such an odd family situation and if I were in that position as a kid I would be extremely lost.

      Ok I can't stand it so I'll put this out there, though no one will probably read down this far.

      By the time most children are 3 they can tell you if they are a boy or a girl. However they don't understand the permanence of this for another year or so. So they'll say "I'm a boy" but if you ask them what they want to be when they grow up they may say "a mommy". They think it can change. (They also view death the same way) Some children even after they understand the permanency of their gender continue to rebel against it (for lack of a better word) until they hit puberty when hormones kick in and there is a shift in their understanding psychologically. All this is mute of course with trully transgender people as their denial is often biologically based (often they state they've always known) and is reinforced at puberty because the corresponding hormones kick in. Certainly there are areas of gray here but it all boils down to this: give the kid a break for F's sake.
