CBS FINALLY Goes Gay.

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsGay Gay Gay

Good! It's about time!

After receiving a negative report from GLAAD because not ONE SINGLE show on their network features a homosexual character, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler revealed that it's all about to change!

During the Television Critics Association press tour, Tassler claimed that a gay character would be added to their new comedy $#*! My Dad Says, as well as one in Rules Of Engagement and also The Good Wife!

She explained:

"We're disappointed in our track record so far. We're going to do it. We're not happy with ourselves."

Agreed! We think it's absolutely shameful!

It's also too bad that they couldn't just work characters into the shows organically, or without outside pressures, but we do suppose it's a start!

What do U think?? Are U happy CBS is finally including gay characters in their programming?

How I Met Your Mother is on CBS….

  2. 2

I'm gay but I don't think you should just add a gay character unless the story needs it.

  3. 3

I don't care if they have gay characters or not. I want GOOD STORIES - that's all.

  4. 4

um… there are 3 gay characters on As the World Turns and thats on CBS. There was another gay character named Brian on the show too. So in the past year or so, there have been 4 gay characters on one show. Someone needs to get their facts straight.

  5. 5

are homosexuals that insecure that they "need" gay characters on a show to feel comfortable watching it?

  6. 6

who the fuck spends his time browsing a particular tv company's series catalogue only to check if there's any gay character featured?

  7. 7

All TV shows should have a token gay fruity man, a token smart asian and an token elderly person who spout hate against all gays and migrants in the near vincinity

  8. 8

Fuck My Dad? Does Perez star in that one?

  9. 9

Kalinda Sharma (played by Archie Panjabi) on the Good Wife is rumored to be gay on the show, it has been implied many times throughout the show. Also, Barney's brother James (played by Wayne Brady) is gay on HIMYM. I realize these aren't the best examples, but I think it would be equally wrong for CBS to throw a gay character on one of their shows just so they can say they have one. I don't think CBS is anti-gay just because their shows don't revolve around or focus on a gay character or storyline. A gay character should just be a character that happens to be gay, it doesn't have to be a huge deal, there doesn't need to be an article about how CBS is being forced to "gay it up."

I think there are bigger things to worry about. Like some 30 yr old Cuban Serial Killer finally coming out of the closet.

  11. 11

Big Brother also has a openly gay cast member each year. This year it is Ragen Fox, of Fox in the City. Gotta give them props for choosing wisely….

  12. 12

I think GLAAD has bigger things to worry about then a television channel not having any gay characters. C'mon on. They just needed something to complain about.

  13. 13

Who gives a fuch? Gay or not, just give us good writing…..you gives gays a bad name you piece of shit

  14. 14

No, actually I am tired of every fucking show having to have it's token gay person on it!

  15. 15

    Re: Bambitches – **C'mon now

  16. 16

I'm all for gay rights, don't get me wrong, but why should they have to include shows with gay characters? Why would you call that shameful? They're not coming out and saying they're homophobic or anything. There are plenty of shows out there that do have gay characters. CBS shouldn't be forced to just throw them into storylines just because other people won't get off their backs.

  17. 17

too little too late. nobody watches network tv anymore anyway.

  18. 18

    "Finally"? Puh-lease.
Art isn't made by committee, and it sure as hell isn't created from pressure.
Jorja Fox, formerly of C.S.I. was out, and so are others. Who's to say that a character isn't gay? Do we really need to be struck over the head with a mallet? Must everything be spelled out?

  19. 19

Re: RubenJay – That's true, but they've cancelled ATWT. And isn't CBS the parent company of LOGO: the network for gays? That should count for something.

  20. 20

Christ, some people just need something to complain about. I think it's so wrong that GLAAD passes judgement on the networks. So what if there's no gay characters. Someone being gay rarely affects the story, so I don't see what all the fuss is about. People who get worked up about this sort of thing really need tom evaluate their priorities.

  21. 21

Are they going to stop the disgusting gay jokes on Two and a Half Men and Rules of Engagement? The network seems to be incredibly homophobic, just based on those two shows. Every episode: "You're gay", followed by an obnoxious laugh track.
    .
Re: smconnolly – No openly gay character on HIMYM, just an openly gay actor.

  22. 22

WTF — "After receiving a negative report from GLAAD because not ONE SINGLE show on their network features a homosexual character…"

really?? so every fucking show has to have a gay guy?!?!?! SOO STUPID! omggg.

  23. 23

Just because a network doesn't have a gay character, it doesn't mean they should be looked down upon. Maybe a gay character isn't part of the storyline of a show? While I am not opposed to gays, television shouldn't be reprimanded if there are no gays represented. Perez, you're creating your own drama with posts like this.

  24. 24

Perez brother I feel your pain. On fox there are a few cripples, but elsewhere not that many. and only see them for "the very special main star deals with a cripple episode. Like we're second class or something…oh, wait…

  25. 25

I thought that one dude on The Good Wife was gay? Or at least he's like coming out of the closet? I hate when people complain just for the sake of complaining. It's so trivial!!

  26. 26

Sure, as long as the characters aren't immature, "12-yr-old-bitch-trapped-in-an-ugly-boy's-body" like YOU, Perez.

  27. 27

Um, Rules of Engagement already has 2 gay characters, Brad & Jackie

  28. 28

???why??? if the story doesn't call for a gay, why add one?

  29. 29

Can we just have ONE thing that gay people don't have to get their piece of? This is completely absurd. Get over yourselves.

  30. 30

As a gay person, I find it counterproductive to 'add a gay character' here and there to already established shows. Some of us are actually trying to stop projecting the stereotypes you choose to exhibit in yourself, Perez, and you can bet that these stereotypes are the exact kind of characters being added to these shows.

Infiltrating these shows with gay characters for the sake of making CBS a more gay-friendly network is not what the majority of the gay community wants.

  31. 31

They do have gay participants in big brother.. But I found it sketchy that in the season were they played matchmakers, the gay couple had to split up because one of them had to mysteriously drop out.. So no gay action :(

  32. 32

About time. The lack of diversity is appalling. I'm sick of seeing middle class white tv, all the time.

  33. 33

GLAAD isn't paving a platform for equal rights by doing this. If anything it will just do the opposite.

  34. 34

Re: Serena Loves Mario – There is an openly gay character on the show (Barney's brother, as stated by a poster previously.) The character isn't used often, but he is an excellent example of a positive gay character.

  35. 35

Re: RubenJay – that's exactly what i was getting ready to comment and say. people are so damn stupid.

  36. 36

I don't give a damn. The gays need to stop shoving their gayness down everyone else's throats. It makes people uncomfortable, because it's not normal or natural. You can't force people to be comfortable with it.

  37. 37

there are gay characters on Y&R and As The World Turns both on CBS

  38. Bogi says – reply to this

    38

I wish that not every dang TV show has to have a gay character in it. I would like to watch something with out gay ppl in it. Dont get me wrong, I'm not againist ppl being gay thats fine. I'm not so I don't want to watch it in EVERY DANG show on EVERY DANG channel. Its sad that rating went down just cuz a network didn't have gay ppl on it. Truely sad!!!!!! :(

  39. 39

CBS has indeed brought gays into their programming in a most tasteful way via As The World Turns and now this innovative show is going off the air. I have been a fan of this daytime soap since it began and feel very sad that my Oakdale family is leaving forever.

  40. 40

SPEAKING AS A GAY MAN, I COULD CARE LESS! I don't choose television shows just because they may or may not have a gay "character" on them. ( Let's face it. It is always some tired, nellyass queen with a wise-cracking mouth.) I choose programs that entertain me. Period! Guess what GLAAD? I also choose my friends based on mutual compatability, not by their sexual orientation. Perhaps I'll have to give my toaster oven back. Stay out of my TV and do some real good on Capitol Hill.

  41. 41

Re: Loewenstein – No.. we just like to see real representations of people like us. How would you feel if all you had to watch on a program was all gay people and not a straight in sight. Would you be wanting to see someone on there like you? would you feel insecure? It's called life, we all deserve one and we are all in the same world. so deal with it.
