Anne Rice Quits Christianity!

We didn't think this would stick!

The original baddest bitch behind seksi, HOMOlicious vampire fiction (suck it, Stephenie Meyer!), Anne Rice, quit writing the The Vampire Chronicles - and pretty much everything not related to God - years ago to focus on her new found Christianity, much to the dismay of readers and crazy vampire people everywhere!

However, the author announced yesterday via Facebook that she was over that shiz because she refuses to agree with some of the Church's doctrine!

She reveals:

"For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being "Christian" or to being part of Christianity. It's simply impossible for me to 'belong' to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten …years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.

As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of …Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen."

Wow! Pretty strong words!

We understand that trying to reconcile between personal beliefs and the restrictions imposed by organized religion is a difficult one, so good for you for refusing to compromise what you believe to be right!

And we have to ask - does this mean that we'll get more Lestat?!

We hope so!

What do U think?? Do U understand where Anne Rice is coming from??

Re: misery70118 – You're correct. The Vatican has many scientists, and they agree with things that some Christians do not - evolution, a 4 billion year old Earth, etc. The Catholics may have some beliefs I strongly disagree with, but I respect their opinion that science is an ever-changing field, and the Bible doesn't have all the answers on how our Earth was formed. I'll never understand the crazies that protest teaching scientific fact in schools, and think the Earth is 4,000 years old. I know they're a small population, but it's sad that they attempt to control public school curriculum.
Christianity doesn't have to be the things Anne Rice has mentioned. I have family members who are everything she mentioned, and they attend a conservative Baptist church. They aren't just against gay marriage, they're against homosexuality in any form and have said they want all gays to die. It's incredibly sad. My mother, however, is religious, she reads the Bible, and goes to a very liberal church, and she's the complete opposite. Just because you're a Christian doesn't mean you're anti-anything. Christianity is a very broad term that can encompass many different types of people.

I say good for her - Now, once she gets it through her head that god is BS as well, she'll totally be on the road to recovery.

Re: concept3601 – I know! This tween vampire crap doesn't even compare to Anne Rice's novels. I was the hugest fan back in the early to mid 90's.

Albus's Bitch, you are thinking my thoughts! The entire "retard/religious" of that joke of a anti-women, anti-equality, closeminded following utterly disturbs me. Christ was genius. But like many great writers and philosophers of their day his work, too, got totally ass-backwards. I have been in Anne Rices sentiments as far as renouncing a hate group that many people call "christianity", and I agree with her. No person who loves other people and believes in both equality and peace can follow such a bullshit ticket to the religious dog tracks. Anyone with a functioning conscience can see what a "our way or die" themed cult they are. They say everyone else is bad, condemned and sinful- but the real joke is they are everything they hate. Truth is when you are pointing the finger at everyone else cursing them to hell, you should be standing in front of a mirror. As far as Anne Rice goes, I'm with you, lady.

  5. 105

ANOTHER IDIOT CONFUSES CHRISTIANITY WITH CATHOLICISM. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ANTI OR PRO ANYTHING TO PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER AND PRAY AND THAT IS THE KEY TO CHRISTIANITY. OPENLY CONFUSING THE PUBLIC WITH SUCH A BROAD GENERIC STATEMENT ON CHRISTIANITY WILL NO DOUBT EARN HER A ONE WAY TICKET TO HELL THO. AND FOR THE RECORD ANNE, NO WE DONT CARE. TWAT.

  6. 106

    people are so stupid

firstly, the things she has described have nothing to do with the christianity i was raised with…in fact, those things were not even ever discussed directly. I never was taught to hate anyone, or judge anyone. i am a feminist, i do believe in science, and i am on the left side in politics - though i do not subscribe to a particular ideology wholeheartedly.

i believe in pro-choice, i believe in stem cell research, and i don't give a crap if you are gay or straight as long as you don't make your sexuality define you as a person because that is just so irritating and sad (again gay or straight).

She sounds like she is against the Catholic church, and its political agendas and hatred etc. They are like the fundamentalist group of the Christian faith…so it's a bit unfair to judge all of Christianity based on them and perhaps some other extreme groups from the southern states or wherever they come from.

One more note, if she was speaking this way about judaism, i think they would have her killed, or at least raked over the coals in the media. even if she were a jew they would probably destroy her for such comments.

  7. 107

christianity is not the problem, the evil men in control of the catholic church are.

  8. 108

Oh I do hope she will write more books for the Vampire Chronicles, it ended up too much in the air for my liking and I love Lestat. Anne Rice is the best writer of vampire fiction bar none, she writes for adults not love-struck teenagers. You can keep your Twilight, True Blood and the rest, Lestat forever!

    WHOA-HOOOOOO!
    *********
PEAISE AKASHA (my daughter's real name)!!! SHE'S BACK!
she has finally seen through the bullshit & into the light.
welcome back anne, we've missed you.
now please obliterate this nonsense twilight with some the REAL vampire chronicles.
    yes!

  12. 112

She should add 'I refuse to follow something that values an entity that thinks its child has to be killed in order to achieve its love or forgiveness (SICK!) or an entity that would 'test' someone to see if they would kill their child for the entity (SICK!). I refuse to simulate cannabilism by pretending to drink someone's blood and eat their flesh (MAJORLY SICK!). I refuse to adhere to a belief system that's ultimate focus is the destruction of mankind and death - I prefer to embrace my life, not see it as evil and am thankful for the short existence that I have - I am not at peace with the fact I will die someday but I will not live my life obsessing about it'.

  13. 113

What church did she go to?!?!? I'm a christian and have always been told not to judge people. The only laws over christianity are the ones written by God himself (the Ten Commandments). Last time I checked, thou shalt not use birth control and thou shalt hate gays were not part of them. The Bible itself is really more open to personal interpretation.

To me, the spirit of Christianity is love, acceptance, and forgiveness. It seems to me that her church has taken a completely different, extremist view. I hope that se will still consider herself a Christian if she believes in Christ, but not as a member of this church.

  14. 114

anyone read her adaptation of sleeping beauty? OMG >:) hopefully she will adapt other similar stories >:)

  15. 115

She's correct, I believe on most of her comments, but I wasn't aware that ALL Christians were Republicans. And what does I refuse to be "anti-life" mean?

  16. 116

Yep. Religion, greed and power are the biggest evils in our world!

  17. 117

Re: StephAce – Every religion -ever - has had more than it's share of violent times. Are you aware that Catholic Charities is the largest charity in the entire world? Thought not. Please don't confuse Catholics with , admittadly, a lot of bad priests & fanatics. And no, I'm not Catholic. Just a History/Religion Major. Too many people make assumptions based on rediculous, biased popular opinion. C'mon. Peer presure to be in the "cool group" should have been left in High School for God's sake - literally.

  18. 118

i believe in all the things she just said but im still i christian. the protestants believe in all of what she said she should stay faithfull throuh all this and it must be hard i n the usa as its all ways split into 2 extreme catgories. Im glad shes still faithful to jesus

Wow! 1st of all - a lot of people are talking as though Catholics are not Christians. The Catholic Church is in fact the 1st Christian church.

2nd - some of you are incredibly mean and prejudiced towards Christians even though you claim to be non-prejudiced and tolerant of others. Cleary, you are not. If you are going to expect people to treat you a certain way, then you need to treat other the way you want them to treat you. You know nothing about me, a Roman Catholic, and you definitely don't know anything about my church. So please, quit pretending that you do and go do some research (with an open mind) or else you'll never learn anything and will continue making ignorant comments.

  20. 120

One doesn't have to adhere to this or that doctrine of Mankind in order to be a Christian. While adherence to scripture is supposed to be a vital element for a Christian to rely upon for guidance, let's face it; even the original team of people who generated the St. James Bible admitted they really, REALLY weren't trained or qualified sufficiently to undertake such a task (but heck, the king wanted it, so someone had to do it). The question really falls to this: Is scripture pure, and thus utterly reliable, even if some parts of it don't make sense to us; or has it been tainted over time by the influences and motives of humans? I hope that Ms. Rice does NOT give up on being a Christian just because of conflicts over the issues of scriptural veracity. Besides, I don't even see in scripture where it says we can't question and doubt what seems wrong to us. Clearly it says that we are inherently NOT going to be able to understand a God which created all of the multiple dimensions and multi-universes, so why stress so much in trying? The crux of Christianity lies in grace and faith; and we are specifically instructed NOT to judge others.

  21. 121

Glad that she is still devoted to Christ which does make her a Christian by defininition.
Not all Christians are like what she described.

I like Mrs. Anne and Mr. Stan both. They use to frequent a place where I worked and they were always friendly, happy, and made us all feel like were old friends and their kids are lovely too.

  22. 122

Re: RedBlayze – You love her more now? Why? Because she is not a "Christian". That is like saying that you like someone more because they moved from one house to another. That is silly.

  23. meg24 says – reply to this

    123

Once again, christian fundamentalism and Christianity are being used interchangeably. I'm a liberal, pro-choice, equal rights supporting, christian who sees zero conflict between my church and my political beliefs. different denominations have different doctrine. my church preaches love and acceptance; hers must have preached hell and intolerance. sad.

  24. 124

If you don't like the Church then CHANGE IT instead of sitting on gossip websites bashing it! All you need in your relationship with the Lord is you and yourself and an open heart and mind..nothing will ever change if you don't do anything about it. Set an example instead of hating on someone's religion, shame on you Anne Rice

  25. 125

She's totally right. Anne Rice is awesome.

  26. 126

She missed the money, she missed the fame. Don't blame Chritianity. There are several religions out there that don't endorse those beliefs. You're too old for a copout excuse.

  27. 127

Well I am Catholic - but also pro-homosexuals, pro-democracy, a strong feminist! It is possible to be a Catholic but also be proud of your own strong views! I am proud to be Catholic, but am also aware that it is a very old establishment and not good at updating and being flexible, good in a way because it doesn't want to be changing all the time! It will get real eventually, it just takes a bit of time!

  28. 128

I was in rehab with Anne Rice in Betty Ford. She would talk about her son being gay and how it was hard for her that her Catholic faith wouldn't accept him. She made the right choice. She is an odd little bird though but I liked her alot.

  29. 129

She's confused. Christianity and religion are two different things. Christianity isn't rules and restrictions. It's a personal relationship with Christ. It comes from your heart, not your head. I choose what is right and wrong in my life. My choices do not come from a religion or from what others say or do. I am on birth control, support feminism, sometimes abortions are necessary, science is essential, my political party depends on the leaders involved. I make my own choices. But I am proud to be a Christian and I treasure my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Re: Aussieone – FABULOUS, to see you posting. your comments are always enjoyable to read. :)

  31. 131

I Totally understand this. I was an atheist for a long time. I got so fed up with christians who are judgemental and the hypocrisy of it all. Everything she just said, the anti-gay stuff, anti-woman everything. Well then I became a christian. A very devout christian which was shocking to everyone who knew me because I was a SERIOUS atheist. I just did not believe god existed for years and years. So I started going to church and for a few months I really loved it. THEN I went to a church where the preacher was talking about how gay people are going to hell basically. Well I'm a bisexual. How can I sit there and listen to that and believe that Im going to hell for something I can't control?

NOW I'm wavering, I don't want to call myself an atheist because I do think something created all of this. But I don't want to compromise my personal beliefs either. I like Anne Rice's compromise here. She's not denouncing Jesus Christ. She's just denouncing organized religion. I'm afraid Im going to have to do the same thing because I cant sit in a church and listen to a homophobic preacher tell me Im going to hell.

  32. 132

Organized religion sucks. It is for STUPID PEOPLE.

When they learn not to marginalize the women in such a misogynistic fashion, their coffers might again fill with donations. The women decide where the family's going on Sundays. The man would rather sleep in.

  34. 134

    @Tebberen

I literally just created an account to tell you HOW MUCH I agree with you and how right you are!! As for Anne Rice, I too think she just collaborated with the wrong church or one bad preacher/someone who didn't share her viewpoint. I'll pray for her just like everyone else who are saying such rediculous things about Christianity. You can't call yourself Christian and not follow Christianity. TRUE Christianity calls for followers to show love and tolerance (love the sinner hate the sin) and Jesus himself would have hung out with the very people everyone assumes Christians hate like gay people. PERSONALLY I show love to these and all people whether or not I agree with their life. but that doesn't mean I'm perfect NO ONE is. and people other than Christians are bigots, anti-this and anti-that like Rice points out. It saddens me to see another person pinning it all on Christians just because of a small few. And PS not all Christians are republicans. I for one don't care either way. Also, true Christianity IS NOT A RELEGION. it's a relationship with Jesus Christ, not some big show. A Christian isn't a Christian without the fellowship of other Christians. NO BODY or GROUP of people is PERFECT because we're HUMAN. Get over yourself all you "bigger-than-religion" athiest/agnostics. And to all you people calling yourself Christians but practicing hate and blindly following a leader or group without personally investing yourself, shame on you too!!

  35. 135

Anne, you rock! Christianity is the source of all evil. All hail atheism!!

  36. 136

Good for her! Thats why i can't be a christian- so many stupid rules that don't make sense, like hating gay people.

  37. 137

She's right but Muslims are WAY WORSE.
Generally speaking, religion is man -made and has nothing to do with God.

  38. 138

People need to learn to let world peace begin with themselves. To that end, I'm one of those people that doesn't care if Anne Rice is Christian or not. All better! :)

  39. 139

Does she not realize that there are several churches within christianity? if she not satisfied with what church she's with she can just convert to another? Not all christians are like that. but if she doesn't want to be a christian that's he decision so go anne rice!!

  40. 140

LOL Yeah…didn't think it would last as long as it has. Translation: "Sorry I sold out all the people who made me a millioniare. I'm broke now and all my NOLA properties are gone, I have nothing. I'm sooo sooooory, please take me back so I can pay my bills."

  41. 141

Re: sen10rita – Actually…without the GLBT and Goth community she wouldn't be where she WAS before she sold out lol. Do your homework…I'm pretty sure your lot condems them, so I doubt your "god" had anything to do with her success. Grown up flat-earther..
