Critics (And Raging Rosie) Hate On The President For Doing The View!

This morning, President Barack Obama sat down with the ladies of The View, including Barbara Walters, for a full hour interview.

It marks the first time a sitting President makes an appearance on daytime television, but the critics are focusing more on the venue than the achievement.

Before Obama even stepped foot onto the set yesterday, critics were harping on his decision to do the show. S.E. Cupp of the New York Daily News summed up the sentinment pretty well, writing an editorial titled, "Two wars, oil crisis, crashed economy and he's whooping it up with Whoopi." In the article, she writes:

"Obama will surely discuss the state of the nation on The View, in between coos and leg pats from Sherri, wisecracks from Joy and earnest pseudo-journalism from Elisabeth, but it's unlikely he'll change the minds of voters who are increasingly unimpressed that our President is a wiz at self-promotion, but no good at steering the nation through these tricky straits."

This seems to be a shared view of former View co-anchor, Rosie O'Donnell. On her XM talk show yesterday, she tore into the President, saying: "I don't really think sitting presidents should do fluffy daytime TV shows."

Are those the sour grapes talking or is that really how you feel?

Personally, we're going to wait to watch the interview before we make a decision, though we do see everyone's point that he has a lot more important stuff going on that he should focus on.

What do U think?

Always looking for a way to hate on Babs!

      (my first post cont'd)
As for the pop culture questions he was asked on the View: did you think he knew that that was what would be asked when he booked the interview? I mean I'm sure his "people" gave a list of topics they could and could not talk about; but if he thought that would be the basis of the interview do you think he would have said yes? The reason he knows Bieber is because his daughters are big fans. Maybe the fact that he doesn't know who Snooki is is a testament to how busy the President actually is. Also, even if his guest appearance on the View was a bit fluffy; maybe that's part of the female audience that the View targets. Maybe that's what they want to see, and that was a way for him to connect more with women.
As for Rosie: I can't bash her for her opinion, but I think she would jump at the chance if Obama came on her radio show.

It just so happens that fortunately, Rosie isn't one of his advisors.

I haven't watched the interview, yet, but I'm sure that I will feel partial to both sides of the argument. On the one hand, I do think it's important for presidents to communicate to the nation in a format that is less rigid than the traditional methods that we have grown accustomed to with former presidents. On the other hand, I think it would make more sense for him to sit down with Anderson Cooper or Chris Matthews for an interview than to appear on The View.

Regarding Rosie, all I can say is that I'm curious as to whether or not she would have had the same reaction if Hillary Clinton were in his position doing the same thing. She wanted Hillary to win the primary, and I think she still feels animosity over that, so we're seeing it being taken out on Obama. The more we hear from Rosie, the more clear it is that she is not exactly a rational thinker. I do think she has a big heart, but it's too bad that she is so volatile.

I feel vindicated. When I first heard that Obama was going to be on The View I thought "Oh, Rachel Ray did not have any openings on her fluffy little show?" Mr Obama is the leader of the free world, he is a great intellect albeit an ineffectual leader. He should do Nightline, Charlie Rose, McNeil-Lehrer, or even 60 Minutes. The View is beneath him. What will be next-being a guest judge on American Idol?? JEEZ!!!

Re: NatalieeilataN – Yea, I live in the area affected by the oil spill. I guess I have no idea what I'm talking about, lol. We're not worried about it or watching the news at all! But here are the statistics you asked for: Obama- 41 rounds of golf since becoming President. Bush- 24 rounds (according to statistics compiled by White House chronicler Mark Knoller). Bush played his last round of golf on Oct. 13, 2003, ending the practice out of respect for the families of Americans killed in Iraq. Should I call you a bunch of names now to make my post more effective?
