    Kudos to a strong, outspoken woman, who cares about the state of America. This person wants to see a better quality of life for people who might suffer, and for that, she should be commended. Its not every day that someone in our generation can set aside her own values and fight for those of an opposite 'party'. She deserves the crown in every way- I hope she has the ability to contiue doing great things

    This is Miss America, not Miss USA.
    According to my friend, who competes in beauty pageants. Miss USA is a beauty contest, Miss American is personality, beauty, and talent, and Miss International is service, personality, and beauty.

    And may pageant girls have real platforms! My friend had over 250+ hours of community service (she received the gold presidential volunteer service award), co-founded a non-profit, and is doing a lot for the AHA.

    I'm glad that there is someone in a beauty pageant who is willing to openly support gay rights. It's just sad that it's considered news worthy. Everyone should be able to relate to being different in some capacity. This is 2010, gay couples should be able to marry, adopt, etc. Hell, maybe some of them might even be (gasp) good people. Lets embrace the differences in ourselves. Those differences make us who we are. Different is good. I'm glad she is holding her head high and not afraid of the small-minded.

    i don't know but she's seems to intelligent to be a contestant in a "Beauty" pageant. it blows me away how people can describe a cause for equality as "controversial, taboo, and sensitive". Jesus it's just common sense that everyone should have the same rights, oh but i keep forgetting such a HUGE population of American's don't possess ANY sense at all, let alone compassion or empathy.

Also, try turning your caps lock off next time, I don't think it helps anybody take you any more seriously. Also, everybody else who's calling her ugly…first of all, she isn't, but even if it is your honest opinion that she does not fit your standards of beauty, isn't that kind of beside the point? Anyway, I think it's great that there's somebody IN that competition who isn't just another empty white bitch, finally. However these pageants where we parade hot women around in string bikinis and then we ask them what they'd like to change in their community…I think they need to stop altogether.
