The Beach Boys Are NOT Suing Katy Perry!

| Filed under: Music MinuteLegal MattersKaty Perry

Honestly, it was kind of ridiculous to think that they would. The guys know this business well enough to know what's up.

Earlier today, rumors were flying that The Beach Boys were suing Katy Perry over her widely successful song California Gurls.

Obviously, you can see why there was some hullaballoo, but Mike Love of the Boys released a statement to clear up the whole mess. Mike explains:

"The Beach Boys are definitely not suing Katy Perry. In fact, we are flattered that her fantastically successful song is bringing to mind to millions of people our 1965 recording of the Beach Boys' 'California Girls.' We think her song is great and wish her all the success in the world."

See that? The man said flattered! No harm, no foul!!

Someone should do a mashup of their two songs in celebration of them NOT hating each other!!!!

Just because they aren't suing doesn't mean that they wont get some rights for her shitastic song "Using the words or melody in a new song taken from an original work is not appropriate under any circumstances, particularly from one as well known and iconic as 'California Girls,' said the spokesperson. "Rondor Music, who publishes the works of Brian Wilson and Mike Love, is committed to protecting the rights of its artists and songwriters, and with the support of the writers, that is exactly what we are doing."

Katy's ex boyfriend, Matt Thiessen (of the band Relient K) is super into the Beach Boys, and I think they used to listen to the Beach Boys a lot when they were together. She probably did her California Gurlz song as a bit of a homage to the Beach Boys's song.

The problem with overturning Prop 8 is that one judge vetoed the votes of 7 million people. That is very dangerous for America. This is not a "gay" issue. America is a democracy not a dictatorship. A judge can come along and decide, like in Islamic countries, that we should punishl people for having gay relationships. Would that be ok? Of course not. We have laws in our country and we vote. The people voted no. Sorry about that. One judge should not have the authority to overturn that.

Ask Katy Perry is she believes in the rights of same sex couples to marry and ask her if she believes in a woman's right to choose. Nail that right wing Christian guttersnipe to the wall. Do it Perez. You know she hates.
