This is F****ng wrong. This country is going in the Sh**hole. The people voted. Just because you don't like how the vote went, you sue and take it to court to get it overturned. Okay then, I did not vote for that Oboma Idiot, and I am not happy with how the people voted, so I am going to sue and get the vote overturned. That is why we are the USA and Vote. This just opens the door to so much more Sh**. Oh Yeah - a village in Kenya has lost its idiot.

Thats amazing! Im so happy for the people of California! I jut look at Ellen and Portia in this picture and they're exuberating LOVE. Enough of the hate. As long as 2 people are in love..let them be, its not for us to judge. By the way I am straight and I have noo problem with gays/lesbians. I actually love gays guys haha they're the best..they're more honest than your girl friends are. Also I don't really give a crap what the bible says because I'm Athiest…and thats what Americans need to realise..not everyone is Christian/Catholic and follows GOD so that is NOT an excuse

Hollyweird is so out of touch with the world. Quoting Paris Hilton? Really?

  4. 4

Michelle Rodriguez seems to be confused by democracy. The people voted…and ONE judge overturned it.

It's a horrible example of a dictatorship instead of a democracy.

I am SO excited and I hope this means that other states will follow! Yay for equality!

@KissThis…Just posing a question to you. If integration or ending slavery had been put to a vote, how do you think it would have turned out back then? Yes, it's important for the citizens of this country to decide national and state policies, but they should not be able to do it at the expense of human rights and civil liberties.

  6. 6

I like what Michelle Rodriguiz said. Congrats to all the happy couples.

  7. 7

I'm happy for everyone positively affected by this news BUT.. I do not understand why one judge should be allowed to overturn the votes of 7M people…..

  8. 8

    congrats :)
& i agree with paris hilton there should not be a law on true love xxx x x

Rosie and her ex-wife say fuck it, it's not worth the battle.

  10. 10

Very happy for California that Prop H8 is overturned… However, Fran Drescher needs to realize that Iowa IS cooler! :) lol.

  11. 11

LOVE AND HAPPINESS IS WHAT WE NEED IN THIS COUNTRY RIGHT ABOUT KNOW…… YES THIS IS GOOD. CONGRATS.

  12. 12

Kim Kardashian is happy, because she's thinking of all the gay wedding showers coming up.

  13. 13

So when they have another vote on whether or not they are going to allow same sex marriage and the people vote no, their going to do the same thing. Thats not democracy. Hollywood needs to get in touch with reality. I agree with the person who said they didnt vote for Obama so they want it overturned, me too. Right now, everyone besides Hollywood is pissed that celebrity justice won again.

Re: eanders24 – What human rights are being violated against the Gay community? They still have the same rights as married couples. They just want to use the word MARRIAGE and that is wrong. Marriage is between a man and a woman PERIOD!! And talk about civil liberties. Gays can make any comments they want about the straight community and straight people, but if I make any comments about a gay person, I am treading on his/her rights. I have committed a crime based on his sexual preference. Give me a break!!!!

The Equal Protection Clause, part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, provides that "no state shall … deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"
    *
The Equal Protection Clause can be seen as an attempt to secure the promise of the United States' professed commitment to the proposition that "all men are created equal. It makes no exception for gay people or bi people or transgender people rather it says ALL PEOPLE are to be treated equal giving the same protections of the law!
    *
The California Constitution itself sets out two ways to alter the document that sets the most basic rules about how state government works. Proposition 8 was put on the ballot through the initiative process. But any measure that would change the underlying principles of the constitution must first be approved by the legislature before being submitted to the voters. That didn't happen with Proposition 8, and that's why it's invalid.
    *
If the voters approved an initiative that took the right to free speech away from women, but not from men, everyone would agree that such a measure conflicts with the basic ideals of equality enshrined in our constitution. Proposition 8 suffers from the same flaw – it removes a protected constitutional right.

IF YOU ARE AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE THEN DON'T MARRY SOMEONE OF THE SAME SEX!
    *
AND SHUT THE FUCK UP! YOU BIGOTS!
    *
Marriage has existed long before the story of your god was even wrote the oldest known and recorded marriage laws is discerned from Hammurabi's Code 1790 Before Common Era or 1790 Before Christ (for you).
    *
Marriage is a social union or legal contract between individuals that creates kinship. It is an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged by a variety of ways, depending on the culture or demographic. It is not owned by your church.

  17. 17

Fundamental rights may not be submitted to a vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections.
    *
get over it homophobes, this is happening and no matter how much hate you spew you can not stop it. very soon all tax paying Americans will finally have the same rights. instead of wasting you time crying about it you need to dig deep down in you pathetic little souls and ask yourselves why this upsets you so much.

You say you support civil union. The same but different isn't equal.
Saying blacks can drink from taps just not the same taps as whites wasn't equal. Civil unions are not equal.

    Right on :)

Hi, sorry I didn't mean to be rude yesterday I was working and didn't see you posted to me till just before!

Re: AttFinch – Ok you dont have to be a homophobe to think this is wrong. I personally don't care if there is same sex marriage, it doesnt have anythign to do with me. The fact is that it was put up to vote and although it is usually majority rule in favor of not allowing gay marriage, their vote is being overturned. So don't act like this is a democracy and even allow people to have a vote if their vote does not matter. Furthermore, it comes to show that if they are willing to overturn votes with this, they will do it with anything and everything.

Why the hate on Iowa Fran? We never had even the opposition against it nor has it been overturned. We also put Obama on the map, Id say we're a little more progressive than your "cool" state. Cooler? Coming from a screetching has-been, Ill take it as a complement. From: Iowa Bred and Corn Fed

  23. 23

One question to all of you - What is the purpose of a VOTE? If we as Americans vote on an issue, then the vote should count. There should be not court that can change that. If so then all the sore lossers in any election or proposition can have it overturned by the courts. Then the whole purpose of our voting system is for not. Again I say, I am not happy with who won the vote as president, can it take that to court and have it changed?

  24. 24

Re: Piper12345 – I agree Piper, I'm from Iowa also and I kinda took offense at her comment too! I don't remember too many Iowans having an issue with allowing people to marry who they would like. Its a shame that Californians pretend to be all forward thinking and make fun of us for being country and intolerant when they're really the ones denying people rights. Maybe Fran should learn the phrase people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!

  25. 25

Re: eanders24 – wow…. great point.. i love this argument because it is soooo true.. you can't allow people to vote on civil rights.. the haves will never vote for the have nots

  26. 26

Re: KissThis – correct what was the point of a vote.. you can not allow a vote on civil rights
    .
@aussieone.. i think we were destined to be friends we have agreed on every post.. thank you for being pro-equality accrossed the board! This country should import aussies more often, you seem to have the right ideas..
wish more american born citizens had as much american spirit
    ..
the fact that they ever allowed people to vote on this issue is ridiculous..

  27. 27

Re: MEMEME4 – MEMEME4 before you post about things you obviously know nothing about why don't you read the 14th Amendment, or if that is to much to ask, at least read Aussione's reply to you. and like amandaloveperez said, it was ridiculous that people were even allowed to vote on something that is so obviously unconstitutional. not surprising that now the Republicans can't get their way with immigration or gay marriage they are actually talking about trying to change the 14th Amendment. My God, how desperate and EVIL can you be?

  28. 28

Re: Aussieone – hey back to you Aussieone. no worries. just wanted to thank you for being such a sane voice amongst some of these scary, hateful, bigoted people who actually have the gaul to call themselves Americans.

  29. 29

Re: KissThis – Are you fucking serious? Ever heard of some things like freedom of religion and separation of church and state? Why the hell should there be a law based on something that not everyone believes in this country? The only reason given for gay marriage being illegal is that its against the bible. What a steady basis for a law in a country that is supposed to provide equality for everyone. And the reason this was overturned is because it is a violation of these rights. I mean is that not clear enough for people to understand? oh and by the way that line about them just wanting the title of marriage is bullshit. Without marriage, they do not have as many of the same advantages and benefits as married people. Civil unions are only recognized in a handful of states, which means they lack many of the rights of married couples. Seriously do you just say shit without knowing anything about it?

  30. 30

you ignorant ppl need to quit hating on something just because u dont understand it. Imagine you didn't have the right to get married. People dont get married just for the rights that come along with it. They want to be able to express their love, and no one has the right to stop them from doing that.
