people SHOULD be skeptical of him, because he is shady as hell

This guy is a hugo chavez lover, whatever he says I will go the other way…. Maybe himself wants to be president of Haiti… He is nobody to me and to my country (Venezuela)… So please shut up and let Haiti people work in peace….

  4. 4

Ok hold up, why is a white man tryin to make it seem like a black man from his own country cant run for president?? Leave the man alone, sean penn has NO right what so ever to tell this man he cant try to make his country a better place. Like wyclef said a "We don't need any white celebrities showing up in haiti for , photo ops and publicity we need accual help being done". Sean your a good guy and an amazing actor but you have no place to say wether are not wyclef should run, it's his country not fuckin beverly hills so stfu and let the man run. Gosh anythig for alil publicity huh?smh

  5. 5

Well, OF COURSE there are better qualified people to be Prez of Haiti…. but it's Wyclef Jean! He is Haitian. His 'celebrity' might be what Haiti needs…. can't he get his cabinet to do all the serious stuff and he can be the figure head. I think it's quite condescending of Sean Penn to be giving advice about Haiti, it's not his country - let Haitians speak for Haiti - not a Hollywood do-gooder.

  6. 6

    Penn is right.

Wyclef Jean is woefully underequipped to be President of Haiti.

  7. 7

Penn is right on the Money. Wyclef Jean is probably the worst thing for Haiti. He did in fact take close to $500,000.00 of Haitian donations for himself, and all of it is totally unaccounted for. He's a mediocre musician at best, and for someone like him to actually lead a country would be a tragedy. He's after the power. Penn was being nice. Penn is on the ground in Haiti, blood sweat and tears trying to take care of these people and Jean is nowhere to be found but in his New York studio making "donation" albums to which the money is unaccounted for.

    Would be akin to

  8. 8

he's concerns may be because, Wyclef being president may affect the tyrants of Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. Sean Penn as an actor is one of my favorite but as humanitarian , please look at the people in Venezuela and Cuba they are suffering because of his friends. Chavez lover!!! you should be ashamed of even mentioning Chavez name.. Satnd up to them and if Chavez is as good as you say, make him give back all the money, properties, jobs and stuff he has robbed the Venezuelan people!!

  9. 9

A REAL PERSON—OF COURSE HOLLYWEIRD WOULD try to destroy this man's image because he stands up for what's right and he really thinks about things. every hollyweird whore wants to be pictured and "act" like they are supporting haiti but to most of them it's all a "image" for $$$. I feel sean penn is genuine.. you don't hear al pacino or dinero or caprio speak or help in this manner like penn. I can see what side people are on……..because I do my research about the people who pull the strings

  10. 10

Wyclef is just being an OPPORTUNIST !

  11. 11

Why does Sean Peen care…Wyclef Jean is from Haiti…and has always wanted to hepl his country…if he believes he can let him try…Sean Penn just wanted to be on TV

  12. 12

I guess stealing money from his Haiti charities wasn't enough. Now he wants to steal all the aid money too. If the people elect this fool, they deserve everything they get.

  13. exBFF says – reply to this

hmmm. sounds like sean may have some political aspirations of his own…

  14. 14

I think both Sean and Wyclef both want the best for Haiti and we will have to see. I don't think Sean means ill on Wyclef he just wants the best for Haiti. I would be concerned about Wyclef's safety. The country is corrupt and I am sure they will do what ever possible to not let it happen. It will mean they won't get money and they hopefully will go to jail. So stay safe Wyclef and prove to all of us that you are doing it for the Haiti.

  15. 15

I'm always SUSPICIOUS when SEAN PENN hangs out with CHAVEZ and FIDEL. That's what I'm SUSPICIOUS of.

  16. 16

I guess Wyclef isn't white enough and commie enough for Sean "the traitor" Penn's taste.

  17. 17

Re: perezisapedophile – no shit eh?? i love your screen name–of course perez is a weirdo–he's a catholic and they are all practicing satanists

  18. 18

You all can hate on Sean Penn for liking Hugo Chavez, but he's right on this. I don't think celebrity and politics should mix at all. It rarely goes well.

  19. 19

seems to me…in this world we now live in…celebrities are adored and followed more reverently…largely in part because of the parts they play on the big screen…than those that should be adored and followed because of their hard work, dedication, sincerity, compassion, etc…when it comes to serious matters such as this.

to use your status in the celebrity world to gain acccess to political power…is wrong on so many levels of wrong.

but of course we live in a world now where Prez Obama thinks spending an hour on The View is substantially more important than…oh i don't know…being in Haiti helping the people…

my point? simply put…other than in the capacity to use their voice, money and time to help causes…show biz and political biz…don't mix.

  20. 20

This man (Sean) is just one of the smartest guys in the industry, hands down. He's right, the very well-intentioned Wyclef, and his heart is definately in the right place, is surrounded by people who will take advantage of the "popularity" issue to position themselves for profit and Wyclef, while having a HUGE heart has already been the victim of financial shanagins. While he has been taken advantage of before due to his lack of savy, the stakes here are MUCH bigger and the victims, yet again, would be the Haitian people. I'm with Sean on this one.

  21. 21

Perhaps Wycleff's motives are suspect, but Sean Penn has no credibility with me. He's an angry, bitter man, who for some reason, feels compelled to throw in his 2 cents on various political issues. I don't care that celebrities have opinions. I'd prefer not to hear them. The only reason they speak out at all is because they believe that their views have added weight because they once made a movie or recorded music a CD that sold better then Heidi Montag's CD. I hate self-important people, therefore I hate Sean Penn.

  22. 22

For once I actually agree with Sean Penn with something. Wyclef is a douche.

  23. 23

Don't like Sean Penn….but i have to agree 100%. How much education does Wyclef have? Stupid washed up celebs.

  24. 24

Im sorry but if i had been spending months of my life helping people in a devastated country and had questions as to whether or not someone who hasn't made their presence known and has a situation where a lot of money that should have gone to the people of the country is gone and unaccounted for, damn right i would use whatever outlet i could to voice my concerns. Sean Penn is just throwing the questions out there everyone should be asking themselves in regard to this whole Wyclef thing. He doesnt need the air time. He's not plugging a movie or a product. He is genuinely asking for answers. And as far as him being a traitor and this and that… take a fucking look at our country. Yeah, we are a bunch of fucking winners here aren't we??? We are ones to talk. The amount of tyranny and corruption that thrives within our own borders with our own politicians is disgusting enough. We are all traitors is some shape or form. Remember that.

  25. 25

Before some of you go knocking the shit out of Sean for his support of Chevez and dare I say Castro, how about you do some actual leg work and research instead of regergitating whatever the media feeds you as "fact". Sean has actually been to those countries, talked with the people you say you hate, whose only real crime was not allowing the control of thier people and natural resources to fall into the hands of outside corporate interests and the IMF. If you actually listen to Chavez himself and not someone's interpretation, you will hear some very intelligent arguments for doing things the way he does them. The "Bush" machine, and others before them, have been after Veneaualan oil for decades and Chavez said NO. So now HE is made out to be the bastard. Just don't beleive everything your read in YOUR media. And please don't come back with what a "regime" it is there and how the people aren't "free". Do you know that in the good ole USA it is now ILLEGAL to take video of policemen. That's right freedom fighters, you may not have noticed, but your freedoms have been stripped while you have been watching Jerry Springer!!

OH PLEASE! I'm sure Wyclef will do a much better job than Sean's friend Hugo Chavez!!!! STFU Sean!

  27. 27

They both suck liberal chavez loving dicks

  28. YUCK says – reply to this

he isn't WyClef he is WyKlepto. he has stole so much money from that fake charity, he is a clown and Sean Penn isnt saying anything that isnt true, but I wish he would mention how WyKlepto is a thief.

  29. 29

Dear PH, please note that, in captions or titles, prepositions having fewer than five letters are not capitalized.

  30. 30

Ever since Wyclef first came on the music scene with the Fugees, I can’t remember anytime when he has not shown love and support for his homeland Haiti. He was and is ALWAYS repping Haiti at shows, in interviews, in every single thing he does. There is not one person I can think of who would make a better leader for that nation because you know you are getting someone that is truly passionate about his homeland and his people. There is no denying Wyclefs love for that nation. He is always the very first person to step to the plate whenever disaster hits that island. His love for Haiti is deep and it’s genuine. To say that he has ulterior motives and is only running for the money and the power is not only despicable, but it’s downright stupid. What money!? What power!? Haiti is the poorest nation in the world!

  31. 31

I'll never trust the killer of the new version of We are the World!

  32. 32

    Re: krazykat99

"can't he get his cabinet to do all the serious stuff and he can be the figure head."

We have a president like that now in the US. Not much good has come from it.

  33. 33

does wyclef have any experience running a country? that's a huge responsibility.

  34. 34

Re: lacey1 – Lacey, it's not about the money and power that is there now, it's about the Potential to move in and stake claims and making the people there fulfill promises made to others and thier wealth with cheap labor that is not savy enough to see the long term tax-based bloodletting that will affect generations to come, it's going on in the US now. Your Great Great Grandchildren will be indepted through increased taxes and decreased support systems due to the wars being fought today and the promises made by the likes of George Bush and those before him to the ones who walked off with "bail out" money - most of them, by the way, were banks in Europe. Anyone who knows how these bloodsuckers work, knows that Haiti is ripe for this to happen to an already-abused people.

  35. 35

The first time I heard that Wyclef Jean will run for Haiti´s president, the first thing cross my mind and I said to myself "Ups, another Charles Taylor and Robert Mugabe is on the loose". By looking only to Wyclef suspicious smile and body language. anyone can tell he is after the money and power. I will pray for the Haitian people, I hope they will choose the right leader for them this time.

  36. 36

Poor Haiti has always been besieged by corrupt politicians. Please don't add corrupt Wyclef to the list. He is an egotistical, money and fame hungry monster who will bring even more damage to Haiti. He will bring nothing to the table. He will only take and take and fill his egotistical and bottomless pockets.

  37. 37

Just because Wyclef is Haitian does not mean he's qualified to be the damn President!! So what if he's Haitian!! I'm American & I know for a fact that I'm not qualified enough to run for President! He's a rapper, what could he possibly know about running a country?? It's great that he brought awareness to his country, It's great that he loves his country, but "President"??? Let someone else who is QUALIFIED run for that….

  38. 38

  39. 39

As a Haitian, I don't believe Wyclef Jean should be remotely consider becoming Haiti's next president. The last 200 years of presidency has been nothing else but self-serving, corrupt individuals who take what little wealth Haiti has and flee the country. Duvalier was probably the worst of them all. Préval is overwhelmed with what's currently going on in his country and I think if anyone should get help, it would be him.

As for Wyclef… something's fishy. It takes years of political involvement to even fathom presidency. Sure, Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't have much experience and both did (RR) do (AS) and relevantly good job. But Wyclef? What does he have? A whole lot of lobbying and a bigger machine pushing him there. I don't think he'd do it for the money though. He's already rich. 50% of Haiti's population is between 10-25 so they would be inclined to elect him solely on the fact that he's a well-known Haitian.

It takes much more than fame to lead a country- especially when that country happens to be in crisis [still] and that is corrupted beyond measure. I think Sean Penn is very intelligent human being who happens to use his grey matter and is actually involved in Haiti. He has every right to question the legitimacy of Jean's presidential ambitions.

  40. 40

BRAVO Mr. Sean Penn, I always agree with him. He loves justice for all, including people of Venezuela, that is why he supports President Chavez. Only the wealthy in Venezuela want President Chavez out. Sean Penn is right about being careful about Wyclef Jean, I am very suspicious about his motives. What did he do with the money that disappeared from a so-called fund for Haiti ? I hope the people of Haiti will not get caught by this strange rapper, to say the least.

  41. 41

The man makes a lot of sense! I'm glad he's speaking out and isn't holding back. Wycleff hasn't spent much of any time there since the quake or even before the quake (since leaving years ago), and driving around with a huge entourage amidst the chaos? Seems out of touch to me. And with his money troubles. Money troubles being the major red flag there. His actions are not congruent with a president that can make a difference. Just another opportunist.

  42. 42

Re: Wolfsbane – well said! I think perhaps for a performer, who loves an audience, having an audience of young folks calling him President might be an ego boost that lasts a lifetime. You can't buy that kind of feeling. Or.. maybe you can.. by becoming President via shady means. I applaud Wycleff's bringing up Haiti whenever he can. I am also proud of my own country and would speak about it were I famous as well. That in no way qualifies me for Prime Minister or Presidency. "Flying around the world talking about Haiti" is not the sole job of a President. Sure Wycleff can do that- so why doesn't he just Do it? He could be real support for the educated person who does become President. Thereby giving Wycleff experience and more investment in exactly what a Presidency entails, maybe making himself qualified in time. But not now.

  43. 43

These comments stating that Sean Penn should mind his own business white man, are ridiculous. This is a Global Age. EVERYONE should care what's going on EVERYWHERE and do what they can to see the system is working right in said places. Sean Penn can't Vote in Haiti- it's not like he's going to be the one making the change. The Haitian people are! He's speaking out in effort to help things by raising questions. One doesn't have to agree with every little thing Mr. Penn says in order to consider his questions. I'd hope that if MY country was about to be taken over by a corrupt individual people would speak out- black people, yellow people, brown people and red people!

  44. 44

Touché, Haiti needs individuals to run who have experience building infrastructure and solving humanitarian issues. Plus doesn't one have to be a resident of Haiti for a certain number of years to run? Does Wyclef reside in Haiti?

  45. 45

I really believe everything that Sean Penn is saying…We should really look closer to why Wyclef is runnnig and how he can help the Haitian people…

  46. 46

    Dead Man Talking

  47. 47

Well, Arnold won the race solely because he was a celebrity..Look at how that turned out.. :P just sayin

  48. 48

    Re: 7kimba8

  49. 49

Agree with Mr. Penn here. Yeah, some folks may think of him as a crazy hot blooded Irish man from Cali, but it's pretty obvious that he truly cares about the people of Haiti. Anyone who spends all their time to help others in need gets points in my book. Wyclef is no where near qualified to be running for president, regardless of his status/fame. Seriously, what makes him think he's ready to run a country? Kudos to Sean for speaking his mind, eventhough he can't vote there.

  50. 50

Kudos Sean - could not agree MORE!

Re: DaRockz – your and idiot who does NOT know how to listen…did you actually HEAR the FACTS sean stated????????? has nothing to do with race…let me guess YOU are black? dumbass. SO WHAT IF ITS WYCLEF'S COUNTRY….you think Bush was such a great President of the United States? he's American….doesnt mean he was qualified. dumb ass

  54. 54

Re: DaRockz – Are you high? Why does everything have to be about race? Go to hell! "Oh no, the big ole white devil's tryna run things again!" God get over it!

  55. 55

Re: DentonGirl – You're probably more qualified to be the U.S. President than half the ass clowns that actually have been. Same for me and half of our countrymen.

  56. 56

Re: Wolfsbane – I agree. Haiti needs a largely qualified individual to raise it out of the muck it's in. That place is in too much of dire straits to elect a crappy musician. They need someone who does care about Haiti but is also savvy and intelligent enough to actually improve the country.

  57. 57

Sure, be skeptical. Great. I don't trust Sean Penn. He's a rich kid from Bel Air with no earthly idea what it takes for a poor person in Haiti to get by. He likes to pretend to be of the earth, living in a trailer all those years. Insulting to anyone who's ever gone without to have some actor with a guilt complex giving out political advice. Also, he cheated on his wife for years. His opinions are arbitrary at best.
