George Wendt Is …. Elf - On Broadway

It’s no accident we didn’t put an exclamation point in this headline…we’re REALLY skeptical about this.

Elf opens at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on November 10. We're pretty sure we've got other plans that day.

Film-To-Broadway adaptations can be troublesome, and this is no exception. As we mentioned back in December, we’re struggling with mustering any kind of enthusiasm for this. What could they possibly do to make it NOT lame?

Well…here’s the one thing that is has going for it: George Wendt.

He played a lovable alcoholic on Cheers, he tackled the role of Edna in the recent Broadway adaptation of Hairspray, and now he’ll be taking over Ed Asner’s role as Santa Claus.

Guess we’ll see how this one plays out, but it just seems kind of pointless. What unnecessary Film-To-Broadway adaptation is next? Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: The Musical?

What do U think would be the WORST Film-To-Broadway adaptation?

ehhh I don't think it will be that bad.. maybe… but to answer your question I think the worst film to broadway would be spiderman… oh shit

He'll be wonderful you shit head!! Your not giving him credit for all his many years as an actor. He always puts forth a great performance.

How about that movie where you had the leading role…Babe.

    Shrek…Oh wait! :)

I'm going to go see this when my show actually gives me a night of and i'm pretty excited about it. Welcoming to anything on Broadway.

I saw George Wendt in 12 Angry Men at the Sacramento Community Theater a year or two ago and he was wonderful! He is a great stage actor!

And if they made "Legally Blonde" into a musical, "Elf" cannot be worse!

I think any of the terminator movies would be awful if moved to broadway

    Very Insightful!

Save the $130 a ticket and rent the DVD. They need to scrap the whole genre and try writing something origiinal. Unfortunately, Broadway and Hollywood seem to lack the talent pools to do that successfully - and are too afraid to produce anything that might flop.

Why do you hate "Elf" so much Perez? Elf was a fantastic movie that is going to hopefully make a fantastic musical.

"We're pretty sure we've got other plans that day."

I assume you refer to yourself as "we" because you're the size of two people?

And what do those plans include: trying on women's clothing and spending the afternoon at Old Country Buffet?
