DanRad's Half-Assed Half-Blood Performance

Don’t be so hard on yourself, DanRad. We thought you did a great job!

Daniel Radcliffe has said that he’s worked extra hard on the final two installments of the Harry Potter series, because he wasn’t impressed with the results from his last film. Here’s what he had to say about it:

"I wasn't entirely thrilled with my performance in Half-Blood - I found it quite same-y, and didn't think there was enough variation in it - so I've worked hard to make sure that if the seventh film comes out and I'm still unhappy with it, I'll know it won't be from lack of trying."

We’re really not sure what you’re talking about, DanRad. The film was enjoyable and it made lots of cash, so don’t beat yourself up too much.

What did U think of DanRad’s Half-Blood Prince performance?

That's odd… I liked HP:THBP 1000x better than the other 5 or 6 movies combined. It was action packed, and awesome. I couldn't really get through the others, well I did, but wasn't impressed by them at all in comparison to the last.

  2. 2

I totally agree with him. I was really looking forward to HBP but it ended up being a bit bland. Hope they make it up in the next two films! ;]

  3. 3

    i loved it.

  4. 4

THBP WAS a let down! Glad he's going to step his game up for the last films. Although, DanRad really can't be blamed for the outcome of that film. I had issues with the writing; I felt awkward through the entire movie. They could have done a MUCH better job with that film.

    ….this was in Entertainment Weekly…why weren't they given credit?…

  6. 6

    wankerrrrrrrrrrr!

  7. 7

I don't think it was his fault.. HB prince was a little flat but still good.. And if you compare Dan Radcliffe to Robert Pattinson it's like Heath Ledger compared to Zac Efron

I think that his name is Daniel Radcliffe. Not DanRad or DaRa or any other sickeningly annoying nick name you can come up with.

  9. 9

Man actors make me crazy. You're making brain candy buddy, it's not some monumental work of art. Chillax! It's cheap entertainment for a couple of hours, not life-altering. Don't take yourself so seriously. Seriously.

  10. 10

I like his dedication but I hardly took notice of him in the film. I was too busy fantasizing about Tom Felton…

  11. 11

I think he did a great job. I really liked that there was humor in the movie. Overall, it was great. I think that the awkwardness everyone is talking about was intentional. The writers showing how the friendships between the main characters were becoming more than just a friendship and of course that would make things a bit awkward.

  12. 12

I don't understand why people don't like HBP, it was EASILY the best film. Why does there have to be tons of action to make a movie good? I get most of the Harry Potter's have big battle scenes, but even the book itself is pretty tame. As for Dan…there were some moments when I was like "why Dan whyyy?!" but he has some really strong points in the film too.

  13. 13

    awww, i love you dan!

  14. 14

I agree with him. I love Harry Potter, but for some reason I just didn't like Half-Blood Prince. It was kinda boring. IMO the best one is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I can't wait for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows though, the trailer looks awesome.

  15. 15

I agree. The whole movie was awkward and borning. It didn't get interesting until the end. The visuals were beautiful but everything else was blah. I have to agree that the best Harry Potter movie was POA.

  16. 16

I felt he did fine, it was the massive changes from the book to the movie which made me upset. They left out the massive battle scene at the end, as well as Dumbledore's funeral (which would of looked fantastic if it was put on screen using the description from the book).

  17. 17

Love the Potter series both books and films. I think Dan did a great job in the half blood prince. But, I can't wait to see the final two films now that's what counts.

  18. 18

he's always really been hard on himself, which is awesome, seeing as most stars are like "i'm awesome". he's probably the best star in the sky, imo.

  19. 19

it was an awful movie. but not from his acting. The writing was terrible, and what the writer missed about this movie is that it's about the story, not about their relationships. This epic storyline was overshadowed by bullsh!t he likes me, he doesn't like me, he likes her, blah blah blah storylines. what a waste of an amazing book. I hope they did book 7 better than 6.

  20. 20

It wasn't his fault; HBP was just a horrid adaptation all around. The 5th and 3rd installments were the best by far.

  21. 21

He gets points for honesty. HBP was shit. So was OOTP.

  22. 22

my last harry potter experience sucked so bad that people wanted their money back
i was at the ' drive in' and we couldnt even see the movie as it was so dark on the screen and i asked the guy who runs it he said its the same in cinemas

whats with the movie being so dark u cant even make out what is happening

as for anymore i didnt bother this one was last year sometime
    RIDICULOUS
i do hope they lift their game

  23. 23

I have no idea what he's talking about :') I didn't see any difference between the previous movies and The Halfblood Prince. Well yeah, of course he improved since the first one but you know, he did a good job. The film made lots of cash indeed so what's the worry? He'll be GREAT in the last two movies, he always was.

  24. 24

That is really weird, because I was thinking the same thing when I saw HBP. I like the film itself, but Dan's performance in it was no better than in the last few HP films. I was expecting more range from him since he had a lot more experience in acting by the time he filmed HBP.

He isn't putting down the film, just himself. But, since he recognizes he could better, I hope we see that in Deathly Hollows.

  25. 25

i think his performance in the fifth movie was better, but he wasn't bad at all in the sixth!

  26. 26

it wasnt my favourite in the film because even in the book very little happened in it besides dumbledore. it was mostly voldemort character development

  27. 27

I don't think he was all that bad. The whole movie adaptation itself is what held him back, in my opinion. I mean, there's been tons of improvement by all the actors as the movies have progressed and the characters have grown, though I do see how people could have expected more from HBP. However, if he says he worked extra hard on DH, I'll take it, because I have really high hopes for these movies.

  28. 28

Maybe he had been binge drinking too much at night to do good work during the day. Most of his recent publicity concerns how drunk he gets. Sad. Rehab beckons, I fear.

HPB was craptastic for a multitude of reasons, and his performance is not even in the top ten. I'm really afraid DH will be the same. I don't like the adaptations or the directing in these last few films at all, and with the same team intact for these last two, I'm trying to lower my expectations. The first two were very fun, faithfully adapted children's fantasy/adventure films. The third was beautiful, nuanced and respectful of the source while making changes that made sense (except for the bizarre talking head thing, which while unnecessary, was totally in keeping with Cuaron's offbeat sensibilities throughout the film.) GoF was where they started making changes for expediency's sake rather than to tell a better story or make a better movie. It only got worse from there. HBP was terrible, and half-assed in too many ways. It doesn't help that HBP and Dh were th4e most poorly written of the books. I'm going to be puking in my popcorn when that cringeworthy epilogue plays out on screen.

  30. 30

that's true. but that's kinda the way how he acts, i mean he is always acting like that. why is he mad now? some headaches, 'omg im scared' and stuff…

  31. 31

I liked Half-Blood Prince and didn't see anything wrong with his acting. But even if I hadn't I would still appreciate his ability as an actor to put aside his ego and admit he didn't feel his performance was good. Most of the Hollywood ego-maniacs out there could never admit to such a thing, they usually blame the writer, director, producer, etc. Good for him for wanting to raise the bar and give it his all. Go Daniel!

  32. 32

Although I loved Half-Blood Prince, Dan's acting abilities were barely there. I'm excited to see Deathly Hollows and see how much he's improved.

PS - Perez gets all his information from Entertainment Weekly. I read this in there the other day.
