Deceased Casey Johnson Sued For Damages

It's been several months since Johnson & Johnson heiress Casey Johnson passed away.

However, that's not stopping Jose Nazar, a former landlord, from suing her estate for $234,228.

Nazar claims that Casey failed to pay rent, totaling $95,000, while leasing his Beverly Hills home in 2008. He also alleges that she caused damage to the home, with repairs going well over $100,000.

His itemized list of repairs include pool and spa restoration, a replacement for a broken birdbath, electrical work, and restoration to damaged walls, flooring, and doors.

He also claims that he "assisted her in moving," by lending her $12,050, which she never paid back to him.

Since Casey is now deceased, her father Robert “Woody” Johnson IV, owner of the New York Jets, will most likely be stuck with the bill.

It seems a little strange that Nazar waited over two years, and seven months after Casey's death, to seek damages. Hmm, something seems kind of shady…

Ummm…you might want to rephrase that because it sounds like you're saying she died 2 years and 7 months ago. She died this year. You DO know that, don't you?

Statute of limitations on contracts in CA is 3 years.

2 years from the incident; 7 months from her death.

The way you put it made it sound like she passed away two years and seven months ago!

That is a bit off setting that he waited so long to sue.

It doesn't seem shady at all. He likely tried to collect from the estate without having to go to court. Taking a case to court is often a last resort - but if the estate refuses to pay, he has no choice.

If someone passes but another claims they are owed money by the deceased, it's a matter of course to attempt to collect from an estate. He has to prove that the rent wasn't paid, the alleged damage occured, and that the alleged loan actually happened, however. Good luck with all that.
