We're glad he's taking it down a notch!

Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill regrets talking smack about the band's huge hit "Sex On Fire."

He said he was "ashamed" of calling the song a "piece of shit" and called his new fans "not fucking cool."

Caleb continues:

"For a while there, I turned into someone I wasn't proud of. I wasn't appreciative of the admiration we were getting, and I said some things that I'm ashamed of. I hurt people who were genuine fans of the band because I was embarrassed to look out from the stage every night and see people who weren't like me."

Yeah, get over it, 'bb!

You're a rockstar now!

This coming from the guy would cancelled a show because of pigeons?

    2. 2

Of course he's apologizing to his fans. No fans = No money coming in.

    3. 3

Wow! Looks like someone needs humility?

    4. 4

Who is this band, anyway? The have a couple of moderate hits and they think they're hot shit?? They're nobodies.

    5. 5

Sorry but ONE successful album out of several doesn't mean you're too cool for mainstream. It means, for a second, you ARE mainstream. I hate when bands sign major label deals potentially worth millions but don't want anyone to listen to their music. The guy's a total douche and deserves to be playing in poorly lit bars with crap acoustics… in 5-7 years, they will be — and playing those 2 hits ad nauseum praying anyone will listen and pay the $5 cover.

    6. 6

good for him for looking inside and changing what he doesn't like. to speak of it publicly is pretty damned brave. these are genuinely likable guys from a modest background. fame isn't something that we're born knowing how "to do".

    7. 7

It's his song, He can say and do whaty he wants to, morons!

    8. 8

I can't understand someone who will trash their work or their fans. Why on earth would you say something like that?! But then fame does weird stuff to people. At least he's owning up to hurting people and that he acted inappropriately. That takes guts. Good for you Caleb, you cutie.

BOO-HOO you little Cry Baby.Go marry taylor monson and and u 2 can be ROCK
      STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    10. 10

He's definitely right about that terrible song. And his "fans" are the same one's who think John Mayer is "such a great artist". Please leave music to the big boys Caleb(lame).

    11. 11

Sorry, but most of KOL's new "fans" AREN'T fucking cool. He has every right in saying what he said when people that only know "Use Somebody" and "Sex On Fire" are coming to concerts and taking seats from dedicated fans, who have not necessarily been there from the first album, but at least listened to it.

The guy deserves it…in interviews he says he wants more mainstream records that will make him more recognized because poeple didn't recognize him in the states, but then he "sells out" and make that album and then he is disappointed in his fans. Maybe he should have considered the fans he has had for years before selling out! I wouldn't but tickets to my former favorite band's concert now, and sold mine last year for half price….

    13. 13

I didn't eve know they had a song called "Sex on Fire." I guess they're not as famous as he thinks they are. However, he's a total douche. Embarrassed by his fans??? What a jackass!

    14. 14

Re: curiousred – Yes, he can do whatever he wants, but he's a total idiot for insulting his fans. Just like TigerLily said: No fans= no money

    15. 15

Sex on Fire is one of KOL's worst songs. And I love KOL. So, I kinda agree with his original stance on it

    16. 16

Yeah i know what he is talking about. about a year or so ago… i was begging my friends to tag along to see them play… now they are begging me to take them to see them live. So gay. People are such posers and only will find music only if its top 40 music or w.e… thats who i think he was talking about. not his true fans.

    17. 17

He has a point. The same thing happened with Mindless Self Indulgence. They became the talk of Hot Topic goers with their latest album If (which sucked), but he knew they weren't true fans. But, that's what happens with the money.

    18. 18

To be fair I do agree with him. The first 2 albums were brilliant. Just really different, and I loved the quirkiness of his voice, and it seems like they have slowly toned down all their quirks and become more commercial. Which is fine if that's the way they felt their music was progressing, but it does sound a bit like they just sold out and did what the record company wanted, again I kind of don't blame them (we've all got to make a living!).

The last album sounds like it was made by a completely different band, and although I bought it, I've never listened to it all the way through. Its not that its bad music, but its just not the KOL that I love, and I don't think I would want to go and see them play now.

    19. 19

Re: Chinwe Okorie – Chinwe, I remember a few years ago i bought tickets to see them, and in the end I couldn't go, and I had to sell the tickets on ebay for an absolute pittance! Funny how things change!

    20. 20

      Re: Chinwe Okorie – exactly.

    21. 21

Yeah, right. Everybody gets religion when the money or the drugs dry up. I call bullshit … or perhaps pigeonshit

    22. 22

Re: NumberFive – I was thinking that same thing!!

    23. 23

I remember reading this interview and being pretty pissed off that Caleb didn't like people going to see KOL who weren't like 'them'. I like a whole range of music and have been to so many different artists and I can honestly say that I'm not like any of them. But he has realised he was being an ass and has stood up and said he was wrong, which isn't an easy thing to do. So whilst he shouldn't have said it in the first place, at least he has now realised he was an ass and apologised. He's not the first person to make a mistake.

    24. 24

I have all 4 KOL albums and have been on board from the start and I genuinely love every one of them, all for different reasons. So the first record is nothing like the last one, is that 'selling out' or moving forward? So many bands throw out records that all sound the same and that just gets boring. So more people like KOL now than before Only By The Night, have they 'sold out' or have more people caught on to what some of us already knew, that they are a great band? As for the term 'selling out', it is too often used by music snobs who like the idea of being in an elite group of people who have discovered something great. But common sense tells us that if that thing is so great then other people will ultimately become aware of it. Just because some people only discovered KOL through Only By The Night doesn't make them any less of a fan, it just makes them latecomers to a party we were already enjoying. Good bands mostly find a way in to the mainstream eventually, this is a testament to them being good at what they do and not because they have 'sold out'.

    25. 25

sorry but you don't get to choose your fans, be happy you have a record deal you ungrateful, greedy jerk. I can't stand "artists" who think they are so superior.

    26. 26

Oh shut up Perez! He's not being a douche…..he just knows "Sex of Fire" isnt like MOST of their songs in that its boring and commercial. True fans of KOL know exactly what he means. They probably dont want fly-by-night fake "fans" who only love a band for their "hits".

    27. 27

I really hate those guys from Kings of Leon. their music is pretty good but those guys are all crazy (they're kind of insane when you read about them) assholes

    28. 28

      i love him.

    29. 29

NumberFive he cancelled the show because pigeons were shitting on his brothers face! Do you want pigeon shit on your face? Didn't think so. I understand why he made those comments this band had 3 albums out before Only By The Night came out and now on their 4th album they are popular? Because of all the radio play they are getting this music gets out to the masses and these "new fans" are only at their shows to hear the new stuff. Whatever is popular doesn't mean the music is any good. I agree with Caleb Sex on Fire is a piece of shit song. Knocked Up, Holy Roller Novacaine? Have any of you "new fans" heard this music I didn't think so. Only By The Night is my least favorite album of theirs.

    30. 30

      that song is wayyy overplayed

    31. 31

fuck you perez. go listen to that piece of shit gaga.

    32. 32

i know what he means, though. i love KOL's first three albums. the last one is eh, but I don't hate it or anything. Now everyone knows them because of their worst song, "Use Somebody" ugh.
