Horrific!

Hundreds of concertgoers witnessed a man jump to his death at a Swell Season show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA Thursday night.

The audience, the crew, as well as band members, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, were horrified when they saw a man deliberately throw himself from the building, fall three stories through lighting rigs, and land on a speaker.

Hansard had just finished performing a song and was talking to the crowd when the man jumped. He put down his guitar and walked over to the man on the stage while doctors attempted to revive him.

"I saw him standing there on the edge of the roof, I thought it was a part of the act, and then he took off running and jumped, did a couple of flips and landed on the stage," audience member Kyle Rivers said. "It was pretty traumatic."

Some witnesses tweeted about the disturbing event, saying, "Swell Season at Mountain Winery was amazing until someone decided it was time 2 end their life & made an entire audience unwilling witnesses.

Swell Season and the crew issued a statement:

"The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family."

So sad.

IS THERE AN ACT II WITH PEREZ???

OMG. Horrible! If he did a couple of flips I'm assuming he was trying to purposely go out with a bang - make a lasting impression. Its sick actually. This is probably one of the craziest stories I've ever heard. Its only a matter of time before the YouTube video comes out.

    3. 3

      holy shit

      where is the youtube video?

    4. 4

I heard he had a beer in one hand and a sparkler in the other..what a way to go…I think I would have picked a different band

    5. 5

pretty selfish way to off yourself, don't you think?

    6. 6

What a horrific tragedy all around!

    7. 7

      Was the man falling slowly?

WoW! I'm stunned! Besides feeling obviously saddened for the victim, his family and friends, how horrible that the concertgoers had to see this! I understand there are several reasons why a person may contemplate or go through with committing suicide.(won't go over them here) I just wish they would stop and think of the people that they are hurting by killing themselves! If you think about it, they get off easy! The people they left behind are the ones that have to continue to hurt and try and recover from what has happened. My "OPINION", Suicide is a Selfish act.

Love Glen Hansard, so sad that's gonna be apart of the bands history from now on. I feel so bad for the guys family, how they must feel

no video ?? how disappointing !!!

    12. 12

boy, that band's music must fucking suck real bad.

    13. 13

ironic that glens big hit is *falling slowly*

    14. 14

suicide doesn't really fit with that band and beautiful setting.

    15. 15

      He missed the mosh pit!

      Doesn't sound sad, sounds rad!\

as for people who think suicide is selfish, how selfish is it to stay alive for decades when you are condemning subsequent generations to suffering and extinction.

People who kill themselves are brave and, in many cases, not selfish at all.

Just make sure you don't land on someone. THAT would be wrong

    16. 16

That's horrible. Poor Glen and Mar, they must be really shaken up. As for the guy, I feel bad for him, but that was incredibly selfish of him to kill himself this way. There are people in the audience who he could have affected by this. Such a shame.

Re: goddamnjesus – lol that was funny tho!!

    18. 18

too bad you weren't the jumper!

    19. 19

What a fuggin douche bag. Attention seeking much?

    20. 20

Re: contrarianchick – Maybe you should contemplate this as well since you think it's so "rad" and spare us your bullshit jibberish about how life is so horrible!!

There were children in that audience that now have to go though life remembering this selfish bastards act who will now also have to deal with all the repercussions that come along with this a**holes decision!!

Hopefully & maybe when you grow up you will realize that people who commit suicide really do only think of themselves then you will see that those people aren't brave at all they are just cowards looking for the easy way out!!

Good luck to you and your screwed up sense of reality!!

Why did he have to ruin the concert for everyone?! If you're gonna do it, do it in the privacy of your own home where others don't have to suffer. I saw a guy jump in front of a train once and I was totally pissed because it was a Friday night and I really wanted to get home and start my weekend but of course the train was shut down for 5 hours while they cleaned it all up!

    22. 22

Loved the band, esp. Hansard and Irglova [do yourself a favour and check out their Oscar-nominated movie and song 'Once', and Hansard's 'The Commitments'].
      So sorry to hear this.

Re: agentsmithctu – LOL. Good one! Hahahaha.

    24. 24

      selfish Idiot.

    25. 25

You know I would fell alot more sorry for the guy if He didn't jump infront of hundreds of people. This is going to scar people for life. It was very selfish.

    26. 26

Could their act have really been THAT bad? I mean, I would get up and poop on the stage or something…but this is ridiculous!

    27. 27

I was at this concert and the quoted tweet at the end of the article was the one I posted after getting home from what was probably the most horrific events I have ever been witness to. There were families with young children sitting in the first few rows. It was so tragic and something that I will unfortunately remember for the rest of my life…

    28. 28

THIS WAS NOT ANY RANDOM MAN WHO HAPPENED TO BE THERE, HE WAS CHARLES HADDON FROM THE BRITISH BAND OU EST LE SWIMMING POOL.
ONLY HE KNOWS THE STRUGGLE HE WAS FACING, ONLY HE WAS BATTLING WITH HIS OWN DEMONS.
Please stop making jokes about it, respect his family, band members and us, his fans. Rest in peace mate… may angels lead you in…

Re: ouestluna – no this is another event.. just a coincendence that both happened in the space of 2 days. the singer of ou est la swimming pool killed himself at a festival in beligium, and this was at a concert in cailfornia
