Spike Lee Places Oil Spill Blame On Obama

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooFilm FlickersPolitikBarack Obama

Spike Lee is NOT happy with how the Oil Spill has been dealt with, and who can blame him?

Lee is holding President Obama accountable for the disaster. Here’s what he’s said about it:

"I don't know why Obama ever trusted these BP guys! They would lie to their mothers.”

Here’s more from Lee:

"[Former BP president Tony] Hayward does not give a [bleep]. The thing we don't talk about is that 11 Americans lost their lives and it took seven weeks to invite their families to the White House. I'm not trying to bash my man, but that's a long time."

Also from Lee:

"If this oil spill would have reached the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, that [bleep] would have been fixed."

Lee recently finished his documentary If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don’t Rise, but due to the oil spill, he’s decided to continue editing the the doc, which is a follow-up to his Hurricane Katrina doc When The Levees Broke.

Do U think the oil spill was Obama’s fault?

Well technically speaking, no, it wasn't Obama's fault. But yes, he is to blame for the inadequate response time to fixing the problem.

  2. 2

i don't know. i would say the spill is the fault of the company. but is he trying to pull a kanye and basically say the President doesn't care about black people? since the south is a predominantly large african-american population?

  3. 3

    Hell no.

And there is such a thing as respect for grieving family's time.

If he had invited them sooner, he would have been accused of insensitivity.

Obama can't win, and you really help by jumping on the negativity bandwagon every chance you get. Would you have preferred McCain?

  4. 4

Obviously, the spill was not his fault. His administration was a little slow out of the gate, but I don't think additional speed would have resolved this differently. This was not Katrina. We did not know for a week prior there would be a spill.

And, honestly, yes, this was a huge tragedy. The 11 lives lost can never be brought back. Their families will be forever damaged and changed. But people do die every day. It doesn't necessarily warrant a visit to the White House…

He is the commander, so yes, responsibity does fall down on him. I did lose faith in his leadership capabilities over the handling of the incident.

  7. 7

So Spike is saying that President Obama hates black people.

Clearly he is also responsible for blowing up the drilling platform, killing those people, and causing all the mess. And to top it all off, President Obama wasn't personally monitoring BP!

I think that Spike has gone to the Fox News school of reality.

  8. 8

Yes. I think 'Superman' should have seen this coming and prevented it from happening in the first place. As soon as someone becomes President, they get super powers right away and are able to fix everything immediately. I'm very angry that Mr. Obama isn't using his super powers.

  9. 9

When you lose Spike Lee, you're starting to lose the black vote.
    Imagine that? Accountability.
When Whoppi and Oprah blame Obama for anything, we'll know, "Houston, we have a problem."
    mmm mmm mmm

  10. 10

Everything I need to know about Islam, I learned on 9/11.

  11. 11

The leak was partially Obama's fault. He's to blame for not cleaning up the corruption that existed in the agency that oversees the oil industry. However, he totally failed in his response to the leak. He refused help from other countries and refused to lift the Jones Act, which would have permited the use of non-union ships.

  12. 12

    He is so right.

  13. 13

About as much as Katrina was Bush's fault…

  14. 14

If this is Obama's fault, he might as well as be blamed for every disaster between now and the end of his Presidency as well. Makes as much sense as this idiot statement from Spike Lee, always a real publicity seeker no matter the absurdity. All for the cause, blah, bloody blah!

Obama is a complete disaster and everyone including the far left has come to the realization. Enough with the social experiments of the liberals, just a few months away from stoping the bleeding and 2 years after that we can get rid of this Obama guy completely

  16. 16

Even Spike Lee is dissing BO.

  17. 17

This commie muslim will be out of office in 2012

  18. 18

It's funny how hypocritical people can be..First, You have people that doesn't want the government to have control over large corporations when in all reality they control the government. So now that it happened its Obama's fault? It was human error on the tanker that caused it. Not the government or obama. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

  19. 19

WAY TO GO SPIKE! way to go perpetuating black on black racism.

The oil spill was caused by the deregulation given by BUSH/CHENEY. and HALIBURTON's failure of parts on the rig.

The response is more about wealthy versus poor. Their are just as many poor white people as there are black people being affected.

Blaming Obama is like persecuting the pooper scooper because your republican friend let their dog shit all over your backyard. Didn't you give him permission to be there, and then look the other way?

  20. tasha says – reply to this

Ahh NO it's not Obama's fault. BP had been operating those oil riggs for many many years before Obama became President. It's not like he could become President and just go in and shut all the oil riggs down. It dosen't work that way. Whoever gave permission for them to drill so deep with no way of fixing things when things went wrong is to blame along with BP.

  21. 21

i think the real question is "WHY WOULD A FAMILY MEMBER DYING IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE THAT WARRANT A VISIT TO THE WHITE HOUSE AT ALL"???? it sucks but there is no reason other that a publicity stunt for them to meet with the president

  22. 22

BP's been doing business in this country way longer than Obama's been president. does he think that the Exxon Valdez spill was the fault of the president at the time also? STUPID!

  23. 23

"If God is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise"???? With a title like that, it's no wonder this country's inner city youth can't read and write, let alone get a decent paying job………..

  24. 24

I watched "60 Minutes" last night and the first story was about the oil spill. What most people don't know is that since the Valdez disaster and until this latest spill, off shore drilling had a perfect record of safety. The industry implemented space-exploration technology and as long as the companies followed through with the maintanance that was required (and quite simple to implement) problems were easily averted. Two weeks before the explosion BP failed to follow ONE of the safety procedures, and that is what caused the disaster.

No one outside of BP could have seen this coming.

  25. 25

    Spike Lee is a clowndick

  26. 26

    Re: muggersaint

lol @ "Obama can't win, and you really help by jumping on the negativity bandwagon every chance you get."

But it was OK when it was Bush - right?

  27. Shaun says – reply to this

well im surprised he said anything negative about his brother. its about time some hollywood putz spoke up. where is fat head michaell moore. if this had beeen a repulican in office these a holes would have been screaming at the top of their lungs. bunch of two faced idiots.

  28. 28

Maybe Spike could get off his ass from the Knicks games, get all his big, hollywood buddies together and go do something if he thinks the President isn't doing anything. He talks a big game but does nothing that I saw in the news- all he ever does is bitch about what other people DON'T do. (plus- he is cheap as hell- I used to work at a photo company and he wanted everything for free and acted like a total ass. He sucks.)

  29. 29

    Re: luvs2tango – @ 10 - i love it and totally agreed

  30. 30

Of course, they, as in the Whitehouse did not cause the spill, BUT, it has been like a bunch of clowns fitting into a volkswagon (the whitehouse) with the way they are trying to run it. Between assigning blame to everyone accept to us, Not going down there FOR WEEKS, shutting down drilling, not knowing who was in charge of what, lashing out at Hayward for taking a day/weekend off while Obama has been golfing, golfing, playing basketball, having concerts, golfing, having concerts….. No, they did not cause the spill.. oh, yeah, the well had over 700 OSHA violations without being shutdown, but no, they did not cause the spill, but they did help it SPREAD ALL AROUND

  31. 31

    Re: luvs2tango – well… aren't you ignorant.

  32. 32

Spike Lee is the biggest racist in hollywood. It doesn't matter how much progress our society makes in race relations, Spike Lee will be there every chance he gets to make race an issue, even with the oil spill. He is sad and pathetic.

  33. 33

Re: SeeinStarz – the spill is the fault of the people doing the drilling

  34. 34

Yeah….um….. they were grieving? Probably not that interested in meeting Obama just at that moment in time?

  35. 35

BP is a British company, not American.

  36. 36

I think the oil spill was Whoppi's, Oprah's, Obama's , Rachel Ray's and Mel Gibsons fault.

  37. 37

Spike should shut his pie hole……WTF who made him the expert and who cares. And why was it so important that the families visit the White House in the first place when you take into account all the individuals across the U.S. or military wise who lost loved one's to tragedy……is there a special invite from the WH for them? The WH is a place to govern the country of 300,000 hundred million people, not a should to cry on.

Sorry spike…..stick to what you do best..not opening your mouth.

  38. Fabu says – reply to this

    Spike makes sense…

  39. 39

Re: so what – I like the way you put that. So true.

  40. 40

Spike Lee got his degree in Geology/Politics where?

  41. 41

"Do U think the oil spill was Obama’s fault?"

Wanna know what I really think PeeRez?

That you should stick to what you know - pretty clothes, dumb bitches, and fake-ass shit.

Don't fuck with politics bb, it just makes you look like one of the dumb-bitches (*cough* Katy Perry *sneeze-fart*) you so love.

Oh, and no the oil spill isn't his fault (seriously..?). Sad you needed our input for that one PeeRee.

  42. 42

Obama sucks as a president and hasn't done really anything great or relevant. The only thing he did was to be named the first black president but after that everything turned to shit. I know the economy and being in a war was what he came into but come on what has he done? All I hear is him yapping to the press and his wife and kids traveling the world while people are struggling.

  43. 43

Of course it isn't the President's fault but the government response was pitiful. and that is the President's responsibilty. Spike Lee is a racist which he proves once again by always playing the race card

  44. 44

Holy shit! My opinion of Spike Lee just did a 180. That takes guts to be black and bash Obama. I practically despised Mr. Lee before but now I think he is an ok guy.

  45. 45

Messiah Dumbama's abysmal response to the gulf spill shows how incredibly incompetent the Dumbocrats are in Washington. Never has this country seen such an idiot as President since Jimmy Carter!

  46. yup says – reply to this

An invite to the White House? Why? Where is the connection? PLUS if you had any idea how much they have to prepare before inviting random people to TWH it might make more sense. Obama can't win for anything. If you ask me, he is taking all the blame and not getting pissed, thats awesome.

  47. 47

This is bullshit, SPike is sounding so FOX-y. Let's just blame Obama for everything, from the bedbugs in your ass to the Bush Oil Company spill in the Gulf. Whatevs!

  48. 48

Re: luvs2tango – Spike Lee does not represent the who'll black community. No one likes him as much any more because of what he said about tyler perry. hes an ass.

  49. 49

As a Canadian, deeply concerned with the global ramifications of who runs the USA, I think that Spike Lee should shut his mouth and stop giving the Republicans more ammunition and leverage to elect that nutjob from Alaska in 2012.

Under McCain/Palin presidency, you people would be at war with Iran right now and the oil catastrophe would still have happened, possibly with even worse crisis control.

The US could not have elected a better president than Obama. Every single non-American person I know believes that, and we wish that you guys would wake up and realize it.

  50. 50

By the way. No i don't think its Obama is to blame in anyway. He is in charge of running the country not the oil companys.

  51. 51

I wouldn't blame Obama, but I've heard things about this BP madness….

  52. 52

You stupid pug face pedo perez. He wasn't bashing the president. But of course that looked nice for the title so you went ahead and lied. What a fucking surprise.
I truly hope that everything that could possibly go wrong with your life, does. I hope that everything you love(cocks included) is taken away from you.
I truly truly truly HATE you pedo perez.

  53. 53

    No…Totally BP fault….

  54. 54

I mean, I know none of you like to be bothered with facts, but there were e-mails released between Haliburtan and BP where Haliburton was specifically telling BP that this dril was a problem and that they needed to fix it. BP's response was "nah, it costs a lot of money, it will be fine"
It isn't Obama's job to figure out a way to stop the spill. maybe if BP actually complied with already existing codes this wouldn't have been a problem.

  55. 55

    No…Totally BP's fault….shut up Spike Lee.

    @ MarioMonjack - - - - Totally agree!

  56. 56

Re: Natanya – Well said! I agree!!

    how to get someone's attention:

    confuse and ignore

  58. 58

    Lee's got a good point.

  59. 59

hes totally right god i love him more and more everyday. i agree completely. hes so fucking awesome. its easy for people to have an opinion when they dont live on the gulf coast. i am so glad someone finally said something about obama slackin

  60. 60

"If this oil spill would have reached the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, that [bleep] would have been fixed."

i live by the gulf & thats exactly how we feel. obama doesnt care about the people or the animals affected by this disaster…

  61. 61

Re: monroe444 – You're not even American so SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! It is the gov't's job to regulate this shit. They didn't. They knew there were violations, but no one did anything. So, yes, in a way, it is Obama's fault for not being on top of this shit or whatever fucking CZAR he has for this type of thing. Obama is to blame for the slow reaction and not allowing others to help clean it up. You fucking Obama supporters are disgusting! If this had been on Bush's watch you would've been all over it. Some of you are trying to blame it on Bush. November is a little over 2 months away, can't fucking wait to get these assclowns out of there!!! then only 2 years to 2012.

  62. 62

    "His" man, Obama? Oh Jesus.

  63. 63

    Re: luvs2tango – #9 - LOL!
