Supposedly there's talk of Madonna doing a five-year residency on the Strip in Las Vegas to the tune of $1 billion dollars!
That's quite a pretty penny and some sources like the Las Vegas Review-Journal don't see it happening for that price:
"My source did some quick math: If Madonna landed in the 4,300-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the most likely suitor, she would have to average $200 a ticket, net $3 million a week and work four or five nights for 50 weeks to make $750 million over five years. 'That’s impossible. She’s not going to work 50 weeks,' said the source."
Inneresting…but we would LOVE to see Madonna in Vegas!

The woman definitely isn't worth a billion. No one deserves that much with the economy the way it is.
One, why would anyone sign a 5 year contract? And, two, if she did, she'd be 57 y.o. at the end of its term.

She wont sell out even if it is for a billion.

the math is a little off, in the last 10 years Madonna played 248 concerts. The figures are as follows:
Drowned World Tour 80mil
Re-Invention Tour 125mil
Confessions tour 205mil
Sticky and Sweet Tour 408mil
If you ad the figures that's less then a full year, and she made 818mil, that's before merchandising, she can easily make a billion and more in 5 years.
or she could go on a 2 years long tour all over the place and sell 80,000 seats each time and make the same money…

Define relevant. Celine's last album sold 3.5 mil worldwide despite no radio support, and her Vegas shows were consistent sell-outs, even with $200 a seat tickets, and her Taking Chances tour was the second highest grossing tour of all time by a solo artist. Cher's Vegas show has also done very well for someone to be quite irrelevant. Don't pretend you can speak for Madonna by saying she wouldn't do Vegas. She's sold her soul many times throughout her career to get where's she's at.

I could see Madonna generating a billion dollars of wealth. But FIVE years in Vegas? How would she sustain that? Packing people in for FIVE solid years at such a consistent tune as to come to a billion dollars?
I think she MIGHT do it (with exit clauses and all that) since it can't be cheap to run a Madonna lifestyle. I don't even know where these celebs come up with the money for half the airline tickets they and their families and entourages require (quite frankly).
Sad though how so many Americans (and in Las Vegas) are losing or have lost their homes which others talk salaries in the billions of dollars. Capitalism at it worst and most uneven distribution-wise. But then, Vegas was built on LOVE OF MONEY. And Madonna for all her "spiritualism" is a material girl.

And do you honestly think that the sole reason "4 Minutes" was so successful was because of Madonna? Because you DO know Justin Timberlake also shares credit on that song. Perhaps you should take things into perspective whenever you shoot off to someone with your infinite words of wisdom. Cher ages Madonna by twelve years, and her career spans 47 years (which trumps Madonna's fans claims of their idol's "unique" longevity). When Cher was at Madonna's age right now, give or take, she had one of the biggest selling singles of ALL TIME with "Believe." Not only that, her Farewell Tour which followed was, at the time, the biggest selling tour by a solo artist. Sure Madonna now has her beat, but everyone will remember Cher's tour as being more fierce & fabulous. And that's pretty much been the dichotomy between Cher & Madonna: mostly everything Madonna's done, Cher did first and better.
Cher may not have had a hit in years, but she hasn't released any new material in 8 or 9 years, but she only releases music when she wants to, not because she has to. She's still relevant, despite being a considered a joke to some. She's always been the proven underdog, and she doesn't take herself so bloody seriously like Madonna.
Madonna may have had hits in the last decade, but save for a select few, who, other than the die hard Madonna fans, remembers them? I wouldn't brag about having the fastest selling single on Itunes. I mean, wasn't Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" one of the biggest selling singles on Itunes?
