Honorary Oscar Winner Godard May Not Claim His Prize

But it's because he has no clue he's getting it!

Ever since the Academy announced that Breathless filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard was getting an honorary Oscar, everyone has been scrambling to locate him.

The writer/director hates to fly because he isn't allowed to smoke and avoids Hollywood whenever possible.

Academy executive director, Bruce Davis, said:

"We've been attempting to reach him since 7 o'clock Tuesday evening and we have as yet had no confirmation. We have tried by telephone, by fax, by emails to various friends and associates. We have sent a formal letter by FedEx. But we have certainly not been told he will show up at this point."

Other recipients of the award will be Eli Wallach, Francis Ford Coppola and Kevin Brownlow.

And we bet they'll be there!

I love Eli Wallach. I think they should give it to Bridget Bardot ’cause she did a lot more for movies than Godard.

Perez probably doesn't even know who this person is. He hasn't directed a movie based on a comic book or a movie with robots or vampires.

Godard was pretty much the master of the french new wave, so i would say yeah, people care. Godard took risk and if he doesn't wanna fly then who cares mail him the friggin Oscar if you're so appreciative of his impact on film, or if not don't give him the Oscar, I'd bet anything he doesn't even care about the award.

Re: Curious Yellow – really? Yeah, I don't think so, Goddard made amazing movies, and Bridget Bardot is an actress, why would you compare the two? Just because they are both French? That's just stupid, they had very different roles in movie making.

Re: ashrocksit08 – Yeah, you are right. He could care less about this award, New Wave directors don't give a shit about Hollywood. They make movies for art, not to make millions, so he doesn't care and honestly he shouldn't care. I wouldn't be honored that the academy gave me an award… Hollywood is the one who bastardized Breathless in their American version of it. Everyone needs to stop thinking that an Oscar means something to everyone, they don't.

Re: dgshorty – Just like Perez you have no clue who he is and expect everyone to care about some stupid Hollywood award. I studied French cinema and he had more of an impact than most of the people who get these awards.
