Wal-Mart Asks Supreme Court To Block Gender Bias Lawsuit!

Not cool!

Wal-Mart is facing potentially the largest class action employment lawsuit EVER over gender bias claims and now it is asking the Supreme Court to get involved!

The lawsuit was filed in 2001 by 6 women who claimed that the company was paying male employees more than female employees as well as passing women over for promotions that ultimately went to men!

They are seeking billions in damages!

Wal-Mart's lawyers are fighting California court rulings that allow a large amount of plaintiffs since the lawsuit includes any female employee that worked at the company from 1998 on!

An appeals court in San Francisco recently upheld the class action status for the suit back in April voting 6 to 5 and deeming the suit manageable despite the number of plaintiffs. But Wal-Mart is still fighting this ruling.

A decision by the Supreme Court will likely not be made until next year and lawyers for the women affected are expected to file a reply brief asking the court not to take up their case and let the lower ruling stand.

You go, girls!

I can understand the women who were discriminated against filing for the lawsuit, but allowing any female who was with the company from 1998 on is just ridiculous. Most of them weren't discriminated against, they are just looking for money.

Walmart is a joke to begin with, I have yet to see an actually clean and well taken care of Walmart. They hire a bunch of jokes who don't take care of their stores to begin with. It's disgusting and I hate going in them. If anything because they are so sexist, lets just shut them down. Either that or force them to rethink there quality. Yes they have good prices on things, but I want to pay for service and quality, not dirtiness and pissed off unhelpful workers. Go into a Walmart and ask for help you will probably get some nasty look from the worker and then an attitude when they answer. P A T H E T I C!

I would think you would be on Walmart's Side considering you hatred for any woman showing the least bit of success.

Oh, and you will personally find jobs for all those people out of work now? Please, sign me up.

did you not think walmart would fight this? No one wins in this. Well, the lawyers win. Class action lawsuits. In the end, each female employee will get a few bucks, a few hundred, if lucky. Walmart stock will go down, they will lay off workers or raise prices or both. and the winners, like I said, will be the lawyers. If Walmart discriminated, I truely believe these women should have individually sued or/or just looked for another JOB. I shop there, I don't expect great quality, but I do expect cheaper prices. If I worked there, I would expect it to be a part time job. How many people make walmart a career?

Re: WMariah – And how do you know this? Do you work for Walmart? I work for the home office and I'm well take care of.

Walmart is a great company that passes on great prices to the consumer. I love Walmart. They give jobs to a lot of people and great value for your hard earned money.

The Libtards war on our American companies, is incomprehensible, and has backfired on the Dems. They've killed the golden goose.

The crowd in power, thinks cow farts are more influential than sun activity on the earth's temperatures and you people laugh at us?
Walmart, insurance companies, doctors and oil companies are the danger in our lives and Muslims are our friends.

Now there's no jobs. No economy. That's no joke, newsjunkie.
Men can't take care of their families. House values in the tank. Chaos and fear permeates America and you laugh at an American success story like Sam Walton? Silly girl.

I also work for walmart…but I am a full time student. and yes, walmart is a crappy job, but it's a job at any rate. and, i know A LOT of people that I work with have made a career out of it. A few years back, before the economy tanked, Walmart was fair in giving raises and benefits…so those people who have been there 7+ years make A LOT of money! And, even with this law suit, walmart continues their sexist behavior, at least the one I work at. I have a year and a half of college education and 7 years of experience and had been at walmart for 2 years when an 17 year old boy, in high school, started making more than me!! yes, I was pissed but I still needed a job….what can you do?

That fucking bull! Those women instead of bitching and crying should actually be doing their job. I know many women that work at WM and they dont fucking complain, and those that do are the ones that sit on their lazy ass thinking that everything should be handed to them on a silver platter. Start working and do more shit then the men then you'll get paid, instead of crying that a man that does more shit gets paid more. Thats fucking STUPID!

A lot of men, apparently. Women didn't appear to stand much of a chance.

Re: luvs2tango – Labor unions, Christian organizations, and environmental groups have criticized Wal-Mart for its policies and/or business practices. In the past, Wal-mart has been accused of locking night-shift workers in at night, paying employees below minimum wage, and exposing employees to health hazards. Wal-Mart's own "Standards for Suppliers" reports document extensive problems of this kind among the company's "directly-sourced" factories.[130] Full-time Wal-Mart employees earn an average of $10.78 per hour, but critics point out that the starting pay can be far lower — placing some employees with children below the poverty line — and that payrates do not rise as quickly as with unionized companies. Others decry low levels of health coverage or overpriced health insurance, though the company reports that it offers rates as low as $5 per month in some areas ($9 per month nationwide) and that 92% of its associates are insured (though not necessarily through Wal-Mart). Other grievances regard poor working conditions, unfavorable employer-employee relationships, and anti-union policies. Many suggest that Wal-Mart's high annual turnover-rate of ~70% shows that workers are dissatisfied and maltreated.

hey luvs2tango, ignorance and arrogance is a scary combination, and you have both in abundance. Like you, Sam Walton and his evil family are the reason our once great country is in shambles. greedy fucks.

Walmart has a lot of departments. Departments in which has very large things. Sporting goods you have heavy exercise equipment. Electronics has very large TV's..The men should get paid a -tad bit- more than a women for the simple fact that men have to do all the heavy lifting. A woman cannot life a 50+ inch flat screen TV..So therefore its extra work for the man and a bit harder than the girls job. Hence why they get paid a bit more. Another bunch of useless women wanting money..thats typical.

I worked for both Wally World and its sister store, Sam's Club. I was recently fired by Sam's for allegedly letting a high-ticket TV walk out the door without checking out the receipt (a claim which I think is BULLSHIT), but a workmen's comp case who was put on the door due to a work-related injury fell asleep on the job one night, and all he gets is a fucking write-up?? WTF is up with that??

My sister worked at Wal-Mart and faced a similar situation. She faced a lot of crap from her managers but that was nothing compared to when she got pregnant. She had morning sickness and would have to go to the restroom a few times a day during her shift. Each time though she would come right back out and pick up where she left off. Wanna know what her manager's response was? She told my sister that she needed to go up front and be a cashier (she worked in cosmetics) because that's where the pregnant people belonged at work. Wal-mart is just full of bullshiz like that. It's like high school drama all over again. I worked there for 9 months in high school and would never work there again unless my life absolutely depended on it. Bravo to these women for standing up to them.
