American Idol Producers Are Anti-Auto-Tune

| Filed under: TV NewsAmerican Idol

Good for you, American Idol! Stand up for yourself!

After all of the controversy surrounding auto-tuning of contestants’ voices on The X Factor, the folks at American Idol have chosen to make sure the world knows that they are NOT cool with that:

“We have never, nor would we ever, use Auto-Tuning during the `American Idol' competition.”

In response to allegations against them, The X Factor producers have admitted that pitch-correction methods were used during the post-production process for SOME performances, but now they’ve stated that they won’t use electronic pitch-correction software in the future.

Sureeeee….we’ve heard that one before!

Thank you, American Idol, for holding yourselves to higher standards.

Will U still watch The X Factor when it comes to Fox in 2011, despite the auto-tune controversy?

Who knows! But with the money behind it how could it not receive great ratings

However American Idol is not opposed to pre-recording the group performances.

Re: jellotime91 – YEH!!!! i was just gonna say that!!!! IDOL is worse cos they mime along on the group songs! what a piss take! x

I'm so glad they don't! It's a freakin TALENT competition after all! The best singers should shine and the ones that suck need to go.

During the live performances no… but they sure as hell do for the songs that are sold on itunes. This season's past winner had almost all of his songs auto-tuned b/c the guy can't hold one for shit.

I thought "auto-tuning" was something that they only did for teen idols on recordings (aka Britney Spears or even goiing back to the 70's Leif Garret) to market the next tween sensation? I had no idea the so-called talent-shows were using it to fool us into believing "would-be" Simon properties could actually sing a lick? I guess the old saying is correct, in that you really can't believe anything you see or hear on TV to be true. I had already decided that I would never tune in to AI again, so it's not a loss in my book, but an confirmation. AI, RIP

They CLEARLY used auto-tune during a performance of "I Got A Feeling" during the most recent FLOPtastic season….(Lee sux major BALLZ)

They don't use auto tune for live performances, but Danny Gokey had to have everyone of his Itune songs auto tuned LOL

Kevin - Idol said they do not use it during competition which would be the auditions and judged performances. The group number I Gotta Feeling was just one of those dumb group numbers they do at the start of the show - not part of the competition. And some of their guest stars obviously bring autotune - Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, Kesha, Derullo, Kanye. But there is no autotune on the individual Idol contestant performances each week (and that should be obvious to anyone who has watched the show).

No. Sick of Idol and have no inclination to watch X Factor. The singing stars that come out of it aren't authentic. They are contest winners.

  11. 11

I wasn't going to watch it anyway

    Apparently they're anti-audience too!

AI LIES!! They used auto-tune on Lee's itunes "live version" of one of his songs before they recorded them in the studios. I heard both versions….totally auto-tuned cause Lee SUCKED!!
