Mos Def Sued For Being A No-Show!

That's no way to treat your promoters!
Hip-hop star Mos Def is being sued by concert promoters REMG Entertainment after he skipped out on a gig just 24 hours before he was scheduled to perform.
REMG alleges that Mos Def, real name Dante Smith, pulled out of his gig at the Kool Haus in Toronto, Canada just one day before his scheduled slot, despite cashing a $12,500 deposit, guaranteeing his performance.
The entertainment group is claiming that he failed to return their money, and on top of that, they lost another $45,000 in "lost customers, sales, and goodwill."
REMG Entertainment is suing the rapper for at least $57,500.
Tsk, tsk.

I saw him live one time and it was an amazing show. A few years later I bought tickets to see him with Talib Kweli for my 21st birthday, and when we got to the show they told us he wasn't coming. No one told us why, and some other no-name did all the Mos parts on the BlackStar songs. I was so pissed. You either got $10 off your ticket price, or they'd refund your money. Apparently this is something he makes a habit of doing. He's done this in Denver more than once. I am a fan, but shame on him for being so flaky! I hope he has to pay them back.
He was a no show in Portland last summer, and I had bought tickets for me and my husband, we love mos def, but I'm not gonna buy a concert ticket for his show again, just his albums. Maybe it's part of his genius though.
No surprise. Two of his kids went to the school I teach at in Brooklyn (for a year). Their parents were in the middle of splitting up, a fact the girls would shyly open up about once in a while. At some point, the older daughter was very upset that MD had just stopped talking to her and her younger sister. Just completely dropped them. And he'd changed his number, so when the daughter tried to call him, she couldn't get ahold of him. So no, I'm not surprised an asshole like that, who gives up on his 10 year old and 8 year old kids, would bail on some shows. No big deal for him.
Listen Mos Def is a loser. In 2008 he did not show for a Unity Rally in Detroit that he cashed the deposit check for. Although he showed up 3 days later to apologize. He wrote me a check for a portion of the deposit in the amount of $2000 that bounced. I did not sue yet because I want street justice because I felt he had to return to Detroit because he has a daughter here. But that dead beat hasnt been back to see her either. I guess I will have to jump on the sueing band wagon.
Re: sarjie – Sarjie I totally agree he has a daughter In Detroit that he just dropped. Changed his number and everything. He no showed for a community unity rally in 2008. I am still trying to catch him when he visits his daughter. But that seems like that will be a no show also.
