We Still Support Mel Gibson?!?!?!?

| Filed under: Film FlickersMel Gibson

melgibsonaug2e.jpg

Apparently we’re all to blame for this one.

On Monday, a 60-Minutes/Vanity Fair poll was released, which asked Americans whether or not Mel Gibson’s scandals would affect their desire to see his movies.

More than three-fourths of Americans answered that Mel Gibson’s controversial behavior would not have an effect on their decision to buy a ticket for one of his films.

76% of Americans, 80% of men, and 72% of women polled still seem to be on the Mel Gibson bandwagon.

24% of us Americans currently have dropped jaws, and we’re rolling our eyes all the way into the back of our heads. We are NOT interested in supporting MELtdown, but to each their own…we guess.

Would U still buy tickets for a Mel Gibson movie?

  2. 2

Nope ill download it for free on the internet

  3. 3

I haven't been a fan since his drunken episode a few years back.

  4. 4

just goes to show you even further how much of a minority you are mario……and basically that your opinions suck ass.

PLEASE go to the "A Worthwhile Cause" post about Gan on the next page here on PH. we need your votes to win the 250K Pepsi Grant for Hannah's Fund to start clinical trials to save her life.

  6. 6

Yea, I'll admit- I'm one of the guilty ones. I hate everything he has said, but I love his films.

  7. 7

Fuck no I won't be watching that crazy's movies! I haven't seen a movie of his since he did that whole anti-Semitic rant. He's not a draw for me anymore. I'll watch his older stuff because I like it but he won't be getting another dime from me.

  8. 8

"Would U still buy tickets for a Mel Gibson movie?" You Bet!

  9. 9

Yeah, I'd still buy tickets for a Mel Gibson movie. Thanks to you I have absolutely no interest in seeing this "You Again" movie anymore though because of your annoying advertisement that won't fucking go away.

  10. 10

No. Just… no. But I do enjoy calling my fiance and leaving Mel Gibson messages on his voicemail when I know he can't answer the phone. So far the, "Auuuraaaarg. Aaaaarg. Aaaaaauuuurg. It's me," is our favorite.

  11. 11

If we applied the morality test to most of hollywood none would go see movies…..woody allen comes to mind

  12. 12

Honestly, the more I think about it the more I think that Mel Gibson is suffering from something like early on-set dementia. He was normal, he was lovable - known for being a nice guy and then over the last decade he's morphed into this crazy, abusive, bigoted person who spews profanity and racial epithets wherever he goes. I've seen people descend into dementia and this is kind of what it looks like. It's the only thing I can think of to explain it.

At any rate - I'll never see any of his new movies, I'm sure. I think the only film of his I'll ever continue to watch is "Braveheart".

  13. 13

and if he was black that poll would be the other way around
ie. why chris browns life is over
americans are such racist pieces of shit

  14. 14

if the movie looks good….then yeah i'll but a ticket.

  15. 15

This is how I feel, I only know who Mel is b/c of his movies, what he does behind the scences is not my buisness, I never judged his personal life~ ONLY HIS MOVIES.
Tiger Woods~ he's a golfer, he's known for being a GOLFER, I don't agree with what he did in his private time but it's not my buisness. Ican't take away that he's a good golfer and that's what i judge him on.

Chris Brown is the same. I never cared who he dated but I liked most his music. If he has good music still, I will rock it, his personal problems/ demons are not why I know him. I judge him on his music only.

Hollywood is full of people with problems and money~ bad combo!!! I wouldn't follow what they do, but if they put out good music, good movie or a good golf match then I'm fine.

  16. 16

yes, I will still watch his movies. Unlike Perez, I don't believe everything I hear. I think the whole story is shady and one-sided. There may br some truth to it but I think his baby momma is full of shit and a gold digger.

  17. 17

Mel is not the only celebrity to have a movie and a questionable personal life. Most people go to see the movie , not the personal life. His buddy, Robert Downey Jr. is an example. Everyone can find hundreds of others.

  18. 18

of course….why not? he's brilliant and an amazing actor. all those so-called meltdown that you have been reporting is a complete lie.

  19. 19

BUT YOU PEREZ~ I just hate you.

  20. 20

Well, if we all had to go by your rules, you wouldn't even have a website. People come back to this website because they are getting something out of it despite that fact that they may not like you or agree with you. I guess the same rules apply for Mel. Hypocrite!

  21. 21

I like his movie and when i was younger even had a crush on him… And i still do like his movies

  22. Peeka says – reply to this

    22

I guess you have to be a Black Man who beats women to generated some hate in Hollywood. That asshole deserves what Chris Brown received but he is neither half the man Chris Brown, Who By The Way, admitted his guilt and is serving his sentence.

  23. 23

Hell yes, Mel movies rocks! He was a good actor back in his time, & he's a good director. He hasn't did anything to upset me personally. Besides, a lot of movies today suck anyway.

  24. 24

I don't care how crazy he is. He is a good actor.I was watching Signs the other day and not one time did I think of any of this crap that's been going on with him. I was into the movie, because he plays a very convincing character in every one of his movies. His personal business is his. Plus that bitch that is making all these claims against him seems to be a gold digger playing a victim. I don't believe for a second that she is as innocent as she wants everyone to believe.

  25. 25

I don't care who makes the movie. If it's good, I will go and see it. It would have been a shame to have missed Braveheart because Mel Gibson had a fight with his wife.

  26. 26

What a hypocrite Perez! Mell allegedly smacked a goldigger and you crucify him. Yet Michael Jackson raped little children but he's OK!

  27. esj says – reply to this

    27

i will. he makes damn good movies. he's got problems but the case with the mistress is turning out to be nothing more than money-grabbing case.

  28. esj says – reply to this

    28

the only movies i stopped watching is one with tom cruise in them. and any ryan philippe movies, in support of reese and what he did to her. she's my fave.

  29. 29

A good movie is a good movie - who cares who stars in it. Should I find out if the restaurant owner down the street has broken the law, then not go to his restaurant? Everyone else? Why is an actor any different?

  30. 30

yes i would, but I will not, nor will anyone I know see that movie you keep advertising You Again, nor will I see anything ever advertised on this site..

  31. 31

when i see stuff like this, i'm prety sure our species is doomed!

  32. 32

Haven't for years and won't in the future.

  33. 33

I want to see The Beaver.

  34. 34

    Re: antiaphrodite

folks said that about hitler. love the show he puts on. great rally. don't like him though.

i do see what you're saying in one sense though. i'm thinking folks talk/behave like that all the time. they just figure he's had the bad luck of having his bigotry and violence exposed.

  35. 35

    Re: big_momma

They came first for the Communists,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

    Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Martin Niemöller piece talking to German intellectuals about their response (or lack of) to the rise of Nazism (mel's dad was a nazi by the way)

  36. 36

yes, i love mel gibson and always will.

  37. 37

Who knows if that poll is accurate? It doesn't really matter since the public stayed away from his last movie Edge of Darkness in droves and that is a better indicator of how much support his future movies will receive.

  38. 6one9 says – reply to this

    38

If he made another “Lethal weapon movie“ then HELL YA I'd see it!! Love Danny G. and Joe P. BRING IT!! YO!!

  39. 39

You bet I will! He is an incredible actor. He is more talented than most in Hollywood right now.

  40. 40

I have always liked him as an actor. I admit, not much as a person these days. But will it stop me from seeing his movies? No, not if it is a movie i want to see. I hate the way he sounded on the tapes, but i also know that i would not want to be secretly recorded if I was having a temper tantrum, which has happened! I think everyone has lost it as some time or another and would not appreciate someone trying to blackmail them with their bad behavior.

  41. 41

This is a retarded argument, Perez. I didn't support Axl Rose beating his wife in the 80's, but I still loved Guns n' Roses. Same case here. If the movie Mel is in looks good, I'll go see it. There are a WHOLE lot more people involved in a movie production than just him. Your logic is 100% flawed.

  42. 42

We literally pay politicians to rob us blind for nothing in exchange. We buy chinese goods that actually result in human death. This guy is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. He just has an extremely filthy mouth. It's all politics.

  43. 43

Re: uwogirl – Mel Gibson didn't beat anyone and Chris Brown's life/career is doing just fine all things considered. What a pathetic crutch racism has become. I'm guessing it's the problem for all of your life's woe's.

  44. J-Ray says – reply to this

    44

These are probably the same dumb-ass people who think that President Obama is secretly Muslim or that staging a "restoring America" rally on the same day as Martin Luther King's birthday is a good idea. Americans are idiots.

  45. 45

I too like Mel Gibson's work in the film industry, always have. He is a fantastic actor and a great director. He as a person I'm not so sure about but truth be told we REALLY don't know what anybody's REALLY like behind the scenes. What happened with all this s'meltdown' shit is a bit of a shame as it was all stuff of a personal nature and really should have stayed that way. Not saying it's right, because it's not by any means, but the same thing happened to Bill Clinton; what went on there was personal and it was a shame it went global. This type of stuff happens all the time, after listening and reading a lot of the things that he said I realized that I have dealt with some of the same and worse from my own husband, and it seems to me he probably, like my own husband, needs some kind of mental help to become and stay the decent person he probably is inside. Whether he gets it or not is his choice…

  46. 46

Re: birdlegs – Yes Woody Allen is a nasty old pedophile, such a nasty person yet celebs still want to be in his movies? Apparently you can be forgiven for damn near ANYTHING in Hollywood…

  47. 47

Well, as South Park put it: he may be batshit crazy, but he certainly knows story structure.

  48. 48

Some reasoning you have Perez, I'm starting to believe you have some sort of deal with Oksana or something, seeing as you're always siding with her despite not knowing all the facts. So it's ok for Oksana to leak those recordings of Mel, I'm refering to the phone calls, not the answering machine here, when under normal circumstances an argument like that would not be shared with the rest of the world? Oksana used those tapes as leverage over Mel, to garner sympathy and to make Mel look like a monster. By no means do I say she deserved it or that what Mel said was right cause it wasn't, Mel was verbally abusive and that issue should be addressed, yet there is no solid evidence that Mel did in fact hit Oksana. All those tapes proved was that Mel is verbally abusive, we have yet to see if Mel actually was physically abusive too. So my answer is yes I'll still back Mel, despite your disagreement Perez.

  49. 49

without a doubt. this guy brought us Brave Heart AND lethal weapon 1-2-3-4. GET SERIOUS. I'll pay double if thats what he wants.

  50. 50

Nope, and we've even got rid of anything we had!!

  51. 51

I wouldn't download it for free even if someone payed me to watch his movies. Behaviour like this should not be tolerated and by not watching his movies, I take a stand against the abuse of women. Just like I refuse to listen to Chris Brown's music or buy anything of his anymore. If we keep giving these people our money and attention even after they horrible things, it's like telling them that it's ok and that we don't care. Well, I care.

  52. 52

    NO

  53. 53

Re: chichimagees – he was acquitted asshole. and there was a reason… HE DIDN'T DO IT. drinking more of the media's cool-aid are we? IDIOT.

  54. 54

Yes…..what he does in his private life is none of my business. I buy tickets to see movies…….not so that I can have a good role model.

  55. 55

Re: chichimagees – AND P.S…. SHUT YOUR FUCKEN MOUTH UNTIL YOU HAVE TAPES TO PROVE HE DID IT LIKE WE DO WITH MEL GIBSON. yOU WONT FIND THEM BECAUSE HE DIDN'T DO IT. AND PEREZ HILTON HAS NEVER GIVEN MICHAEL JACKSON THE RESPECT HE DESERVES… EVER. SO YOUR BULLSHIT ARGUMENT HOLDS NOT WATER.

  56. 56

who gives a fuck what he does in his personal life, i don't care. If the movie is good ill go see it 50 times and support the shit outta him, same with tiger woods, best golfer in the world and ill always watch him, don't give a fuck about his personal life.

  57. 57

So people come to the defense of Roman Polanski, a child molester, Woody Allen a perv who carried on with his underage step-daughter, but have issue with Mel Gibson. The only reason that Chris Brown is still hated on is because he beat a famous person. If he beat up his girlfriend who wasn't famous people would have forgotten now and moved on. Hollywood is stupid, if I knew any of these people I'd dump their asses in a heartbeat.

  58. 58

I have alway's been TEAM MEL, yes i will support his movies and will make the hour and a half drive it takes me to get to a theatre. There is more to this than is being played in the media. Mel's big issue is that he is a BAD DRUNK there are lots of people like that, probably why they enacted prohibition.
To mel you can call me SUGAR TITS anytime and i would blow you while you did it

  59. 59

After all this Oksana shit, I support him MORE now than I did. When the tapes first came out I thought he was a monster and would never watch another one of his movies. But after learning more about the kind of woman Oksana is, she deserved to get her face punched.

  60. Jai says – reply to this

    60

Mel Gibson is a morally bankrupt, bigoted, misogynist, abusive, alcoholic, scumbag. I would not spit on him if he was on fire let alone spend a single penny to see his haggared mug on a screen.

  61. 61

Dude has issues, but he's a fuckin' movie-making genius. I'll still watch his movies as long as they don't suck.

  62. 62

Nice poll I think this poll also shows how many people are fucked up in the head..so at least 24% of people have some sort of brain. Fuck Mel Gibson he is trash and deserves nothing but misery.

  63. 63

I work hard every day, so I'm picky about how I spend my money. Raging racists don't get any of it.

  64. 64

Re: Sherjay – Actually not everyone is ok with what Polanski and Allen did and it doesn't matter if it was Rihanna Chris Brown beat up or some nameless woman on the streets, so there's no need to make generalisations about people, plenty of us know right from wrong, unlike these douchebags.

  65. 65

haven't watched his movies since the whole jewish rant. won't ever. He's a joke.
Won't shop at Target anymore either, FYI. Until we stop tolerating racism, misogyny, and bigotry, this world will never be at peace!

  66. 66

Are you effing kidding me? 76% of people don't care that he is an anti-Semite, racist, misogynistic pig? He can go straight to hell as far as I am concerned.

  67. 67

Heck yes I will, he's mel gibson and surprised Perez Hilton is one of those 20% of people that are idiotic enough not to separate the person from the director/actor. This isn't the 50's, if he makes good movies I will pay for them..

  68. 68

    No way!

  69. 69

    yes

  70. 70

I have seen one of his movies and never went to another, so no. I never liked his work. And now, I especially do not like him after how he treats women.

  71. 71

    never

  72. 72

    if it's another braveheart… yes, i will.

  73. 73

    No. Notority killed his characters.

  74. 74

Nope. I'll just download it if it looks interesting.

  75. 75

He should get 5 years probation and community service plus go to DV classes.

  76. 76

Re: caffeinatedangel – Alchohol is a known neurotoxin. Then again, Hollywood will also mess with your brain.

  77. 77

lol and america is full of hypocritical, fickle idiots
    -no wonder

  78. 78

It really would not do me any good to watch Mel on the screen any longer. He was on TV (What Women Want), I use to LOVE that movie, and when I started to watch it, all I could think of was those rantings of his to Oksana.

It really has nothing to do with Oksana, it has to do with anyone that would be talked to like that. It just happens to be Oksana. I am only speaking of Mel's verbal abuse, not any physical abuse, that has not been proven yet. But I do think that he did hit her. That is just my opinion.

Something is really wrong with Mel anymore. He doesn't even look like the same person out of his eyes. Maybe?????? he is realizing that he should have kept his family together, maybe not? But something is very wrong. Too Bad!

  79. 79

I tried to watch edge of darkness and was totally disturbed the entire time. When he was aggressive in the movie I couldn't help thinking about that poor girl he was with. Hes a monster and even if i wanted to, I won't ever enjoy his movies again

  80. 80

Yes I will, Perez you are in the minority and people will pay for gibson films, he will never work in hollywood again but Gibson studios will still gain millions..

  81. 81

Yeah, a good flick is a good flick.

  82. 82

I really enjoyed "What Women Want", and am so disappointed in his Jeckyl/Hyde behavior. He obviously has no idea how to deal with a modern woman, and he sure doesn't have what I want!!! I have no interest in a film he stars in, but might see a movie where he has a "bit" part.

After his religious "splatter" film, I came to realize that Mel is perverse, and has a sado-masochistic streak a mile long. Fundamentalists are prone to this either/or mentality, and it also explains his madonna/whore view of women.

  83. 83

    Re: AvaLuna826
My, My, you are starting to sound like Mel winding up for a rant. Take some lithium.
