Tom Cruise To Do A Horror Movie?

| Filed under: Film FlickersTom CruiseJames McAvoy

Tom Cruise isn't really known for acting in horror movies. Do we really want him to start now?

Guillermo Del Toro, the man who famously bailed on The Hobbit movie, is thinking of casting Cruise as the lead in his 3-D feature film adapation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic horror novella At The Mountains of Madness.

The drama cometh! Universal Studios, the production company backing Del Toro’s project, is interested in James McAvoy as the lead role, while Guillermo would prefer Tom Cruise.

Both actors have high profile projects on the horizon, which could make them solid, pertinent draws for this movie. Cruise will be starring in Mission: Impossible 4, while McAvoy will play a young Professor X in X-Men: First Class.

Del Toro has done some wonderful work and he’s an extremely talented filmmaker, but we’re not sure if we can take his side on this one.

Neither Cruise nor McAvoy have backgrounds in horror, but McAvoy is a young, ambitious actor who we’re just getting to know, and Tom Cruise has kind of overstayed his welcome.

Would U prefer to see Cruise or McAvoy in Del Toro’s new horror film?

    Uhm…Interview with the Vampire?

If the character is a closeted gay, then obviously Tom. Art imitating life.

Tom Cruise was in 'Interview With a Vampire'. I believe that falls in the horror category. Please do your research before you post your lame blog. I'm embarrassed for you.

Re: Scrib – Nah Interview with the Vampire wasn't straight up horror. More of a fantasy drama with horror elements.

Re: jones19 WHAT?! lol that's hilarious, there is not ONE Tom Cruise movie that I would call a favorite or that I have gone out of my way to see. No brainer, McAvoy is the more talented actor, I am sad that Del Toro doesn't realize that.

Tom Cruise is a great actor and I havent jumped on the bandwagon to hate him just because he has personal beleifs. What a shitty thing to wish on someone that theyve over stayed their welcome

  14. 14

What the hell, isn't it obvious? James Mcavoy! hes so much better, tom cruise is oxidado already, and he doesnt do well in those types of movies, plus hes boring.. james is gifted, plus hes hooottt

  15. 15

james mcavoy hello!! tom cruise is old man, not only age but at talent, hes so boring and james has actual talent, hes gifted and he has to take this role

Tom Cruise played Lestat in Interview With The Vampire. He was really dark in that and I actually think he did an amzing job in it too.

  17. 17

    James!!!

I'm taking Del Toro's side on this one! The man has a good rep on movies. If he wants to chance it with Cruise, I say do it! Actually, I think Del Toro is doing Cruise a favor more than the other way around.
So, get your lead man Del Toro! And take advantage of this opportunity, Tom!

I have no idea how ol' boy will do as Professor X in X-Men anywho. If he does a good job (becuz I am a fan of the X-Men) then I'll think about him more in future movies. GET CRUISE! Fuck his personal life!

Hasn't this tea bag ever heard of a retirement home? time to expire old man!

I'm on team McAvoy on this one. Don't get me wrong I love Tom but he really didn't do well on his last movie. Universal is smart to prefer McAvoy besides he's refreshing and I love him too.

  21. 21

    I vote for McAvoy!

  22. 22

Whacha mean Cruise has no background in horror Perezzie? Lest we NOT forget Interview with the Vampire circa 1994…did you forget? Duh! And he made a huge box office with that movie too as Lestat—you better sharpen your wits lil' doggie!

  23. 23

Re: jones19 – Oh yeah… like Knight and Day? NOT.

Pick James, dude. You can never go wrong with James.

  24. 24

JAMES MCAVOY! Tom Cruise gives me the creeps…..Ick

  25. 25

Without a doubt - TOM CRUISE

no, por favor! tom cruise no!!! una pelicula basada en un libro de lovecraft puede llegar a ser un desastre (aunque le tengo mucha fe a g. del toro) y mas en las montañas de la locura, si encima le meten a tom va a ser un bodrio atomico!

It depends on whether the role is the good guy victim or the horror seed. McAvoy has shown a capability for a certain vulnerability on screen that I haven't seen in ever competent alpha Cruise roles; but who's to say Cruise couldn't have it in him? If it's for the villain, either could probably pull it off.

  28. 28

Re: Roadwork – LOL! I AGREE!

  29. 29

Re: Scrib – I'm glad someone pointed this out, it's like he wants to be called a lazy fat fuck! Anyway I'm sure Cruise could pull it off just so long as the film does the story justice.

    Re: Roadwork

I'd love to see Tom shake it up and do a great horror movie.
Collatoral was a very dark picture. I think he'll do great esp. with a great director. He made 20 odd years of great movies. He just made a PR mistake or two. I think there's far worse things than being passionate about your beliefs.

Go on Tom…make a great movie. Go kick butt. I could give a fuck what he gets up to in his personal life.
