JGL Does GaGa…Puts The BAD In Bad Romance
Last time we watched JGL, he was tightrope walking across that fine line between “awesome” and “creepy.” We may have reached a verdict on that one.
During the final episode of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Summer In The City series on hitRECord, JGL decided to cover Lady GaGa’s Bad Romance, and to be perfectly honest, we think it kinda sucked.
We’re well aware that JGL has a rabid following of fans who worship the ground he smokes pot on walks on, but then again, Scientology has the same type of fanbase, and that doesn’t make it any less “creepy.”
There! We said it! As far as we’re concerned, JGL has officially landed in creepy territory. Maybe if he had wowed us with his GaGa cover, we’d give him the benefit of the doubt, but it just didn’t happen.
Tell you what, JGL…send us an impressive cover of Cee-Lo Green’s F#CK You, and we’ll give very serious consideration to reassessing where we stand on your awesomeness/creepiness.

I don't think he is very well suited for this kind of song-he sounded so angry while singing it-but it was fun and campy. It was just for fun, something you might try sometime.
Besides, we all know GAGA=GOD for you. But strip away all the stupid fucking costumes and make up and there would be nothing. Joe has actually has personality.

I see what you mean. It's totally creepy how the crowd is laughing, cheering, and having a good time. Usually, during a Lady Gaga song, the only audience sounds you can detect are those of a man's mouth approaching a schlong.

I love JGL. I think he is going to be a huge star. I was astounded at his character acting in the movie Shadow Boxer where he played a junkie doctor, with Mon'que as his crack head girlfriend / nurse. At least he's trying something new. Good for him. He will either be an awesome character actor (ala early Johnny Depp) or will switch between quirky (500 days of Summer) fun movies and action / thriller movies (ala Adrien Brody). I can't wait to see what he does next, and would absolutely see a movie just because he's in it.

I have to disagree… Gaga actually has extreme talent, excellent voice, piano chops and her showmanship is outstanding. If you strip her away of the costumes and fan fare, you have a talented musician and artist who is not afraid to be unique. She also shows absolute humility and respect toward her fans, which many many musicians fail to do.

JGL wrote on his blog that performing has always been a dream of his. Do you think it's fair to call someone "creepy" when they're having a good time and living out their dreams? Just because you have an awful reputation doesn't mean that you get to criticize people.

10 years ago all the hipster bars had indie bands doing covers of Britney Spears to be funny and creative. Since YouTube, it doesn't have the same effect that happens the first time someone changes the tone and tempo of a pop song, since it's always been done before. Still looked like a fun show.

I love Lady Gaga and I am not insulting her in saying this, but surely if one of those two stars crosses into the territory of creepiness more than the other, it's her. I fail to see in what aspect this is creepy when compared to a woman who fake hangs herself on stage with blood pouring out of her chest. I love Gaga, I love Joseph, but Perez you can be a real fool. Over the last few years Joseph Gordon-Levitt has proven himself to be one of the most talented actors of our generation. He's also shown himself to be a fine musician and is very good looking to boot. Not only that, he's down to earth, honest and just generally a pleasant guy. Why the hell should we care what a sycophantic, middle-aged, overweight queen thinks about him? Creepy? Excuse me, but when was the last time JGL took a photo of a school-aged girl and shopped it to look like she was exposing herself?
