Kiki's Purse Burglar Gets Four Years Behind Bars

Thief James Jimenez has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing Kristen Dunst's $2,000 Balenciaga purse from her room at the Soho Grand hotel in 2007.

"I don't understand the charges," said Jimenez to the judge. "I don't understand why I'm being charged."

Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Jill Konviser responded, "I understand, because I presided over this trial and I'm familiar with all the evidence."

Ouch!

Jimenez's lawyers tried to get out of the charges by insisting their client had permission to roam the hotel while the cast and crew of How to Lose Friends & Alienate People took over the building.

Nice try. Enjoy your time in jail!

Okay so, this person gets 4 years in jail for stealing a purse, yet Lindsay Lohan gets like 20 days in jail and a week in rehab for chasing after someone in a SUV while high on drugs. Oh yeah the justice system is so fair and balanced HA! Yeah right.

Someone who steals a purse gets 4 years…however Lindsey Lohan who is a druggie gets just a couple days? Oh..and also those rich b*tches who broke into Lohans, Hiltons, etc houses only got a couple weeks in jail as well. Goes to show you the Rich & famous walk around like Kings, commit felonies and only receive a slap on the wrist. While the average Joe with lesser charges gets a more severe sentence . UGH!!

When I first saw this (here) yesterday I also thought four years for nicking a purse was excessive- the thief probably didn't know it cost two grand. I agree with other posters somethings wrong with the criminal justice system; the cops swoon over celebutarts like PH, et. al. and then throw the book at the poor and unknown…not a very "just" system…

Jimenez is a 36 year old veteran car thief, shoplifter and gun-toter. He was at the hotel when he and his friend, convicted heroin dealer Jarrod Beinerman went into the Soho Grand. There is video footage of him in Dunst's suite at the hotel carrying out a bag with her expensive purse. He could have received 8 years but the judge gave him 4 years.
