It's Official! Piers Morgan Replaces Larry King

| Filed under: TV NewsAnglophiliaAnderson CooperLarry KingPiers Morgan

Piers Morgan is taking over for Larry King on CNN!

The British television personality says:

“I am thrilled to be joining CNN, and very much looking forward to bringing my own style of interviewing to the world’s biggest, and best, TV news organization. As a young journalist in Britain, I watched CNN’s astonishing live coverage of the 1991 Gulf War, and felt enthralled by the courage and brilliance of the journalists involved in that coverage. Years later, I watched Anderson Cooper’s visceral reports from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and felt equally enthralled by his passionate and relentless search for the truth.

"Perhaps most pertinently, I have watched Larry King Live for much of the last 25 years, and dreamed of one day filling the legendary suspenders of the man I consider to be the greatest TV interviewer of them all.”

Congrats, Piers!

Are U looking forward to the change?

No, I am not looking forward to the change. CNN without Larry King is like late night without comedians.

"Perhaps most pertinently, I have watched Larry King Live for much of the last 25 years" Huh, I doubt it. Back in 1985 there was no satellite tv or cable in the UK (we had just got our fourth channel in 1982) and there was certainly no YouTube. As Moron (as Private Eye likes to call him) was living and working in the UK at that time, I'd like to know how he has managed to watch Larry King for 25 years. Mind you, as Private Eye often points out, Moron and the truth have a sometimes nebulous relationship - read the PE reviews of and comments on his published diaries to see where his versions and the official versions of events diverge …

Are the Britts cheaper to contract or somethen. No, I will not watch this guy. Why not Ryan Seacrest or Anderson Cooper "American Men". I think Piers Morgan will ruin this iconic show. Bad choice CNN.

  4. 4

He is good, and has solid journalism credentials.
However, I have to wonder why this job is going to a foreigner when there are plenty of solid American journalists here.

Well, I'll never be watching that show again! I HATE PIERS.

Who cares? Does CNN really think people are going to tune into watch this pompus ass?

I am not looking forward to it. CNN is making a huge mistake. Larry is a legend, the only one that is concerned more about the guest's POV than his own.

I think Piers will offer a fresh perspective to the show. I like Ryan Seacrest, but his affiliation and position at the E! network would probably compromise his ability to interview celebrities effectively; plus he is the person responsible for inundating us with the Kardashians. If he took the position we would see the Kardashians morning noon and night etc.. UGH!
I think Larry King was ready to leave because his interviews over the past few years were for the most part dull. Best wishes to Larry.

I have liked Piers Morgan when I saw him on Celebrity Apprentice and America's got talent, but I worry a bit about his brain when he says Larry King is the greatest TV interviewer of all!!! Larry King never listens to the answers to his questions, he is too busy reading what the next one should be. Also, I get really sick of his liberal slant on everything. I only watch if the guest is someone I like. I never watch because it is Larry King.

I'm sure their 2 viewers are thrilled.

I wonder if PM will just slide into the chair or will CNN will change the format. I remember LK interviewing Yassar Arafat; Arafat apparently was so overwhelmed I think I remember he broke into pig-jew-zionist thing. To his credit LK stayed on message, didn't let him shake him.
He did that with several of his "outspoken" guess- That's why he was the King I guess…

CNN had a look around and this guy was the best they could come up with? Since Larry isn't still doing the show due to low ratings, how does CNN figure to improve their ratings by replacing King with this British douche? The logic, if there is any, escapes me.

    annoying accent.. cancelled.

  16. 16

    I smell a major failure.

  17. 17

Piers Morgan is defnitely NOT the right choice for replacing Larry King.
I agree with everybody else………….why not an American. Larry wanted Ryan Seacrest, and had expressed that several times….but, they didn't listen to him. I place Morgan more in the venue of being a judge on Talent Shows.

CNN without Larry King is like a Boobless Playgirl Magazine, epic fail CNN and not sure why you wouldn't choose some great American Interviewers like Anderson Cooper to take that spot…

  19. 19

I like Anderson Cooper to take Larry Kings place. An American is better than a foreigner, only because an American journalist can truely have the feel of Americans views. Anderson admits to subjects that he does not know so much about which is ready not that many. He is pretty well rounded. Though, I do think Anderson would get fidgety if he were not be able to travel all over the world.

Re: caroaber – Piers Morgan's doesn't exactly have solid journalism credentials - not after he was sacked as editor of the Daily Mirror for printing fake photos of Iraqi prisoners being abused by British Army Soldiers…
