Resident Evil: Afterlife was the obvious winner at the box office this weekend.

The Milla Jovovich zombie flick opened at the number one spot with $27.7 million.

It was a record debut for the videogame-based franchise as it had the best opening ever among the Resident Evil films, as well as one of the best openings on a post-Labor Day weekend. No doubt, the film's 3D prices contributed to the high figure.

Takers came in second, while The American, Machete, and Going the Distance rounded out the top five.

As for Joaquin Phoenix's documentary I'm Still Here, people didn't seem to care about whether or not the film is a hoax or not. Opening in 20 theaters in 18 cities, it made a measly $98,000.

What did U see this weekend??

    Even THAT is an understatement.

Oh, that's Joaquin Phoenix? I thought it was Zack Galifianakis. Insert sarcastic eye-roll here.

I know I am late with this movie but I don't go to the movies often ($$$) but I had to see what all the hype was with Inception, so I went to see it and it was awesome.

Saw RE:Afterlife too! It was my first 3D movie and though it took most of the day for me to get rid of that fuzzy feeling in my head from the 3D stuff it was worth it. Definitely a kickass movie and super awesome for fans of the video games because it was the first RE movie to really reference the games. Non-stop action and very well done! Bravo to Paul Anderson for great screenplay and direction! Mila is amazing and the casting was very good! Only complaint: Wesker wasn't blonde enough!

Ugh, what a waste of $20 this movie was! I loved the rest of the franchise, but this one blows goats for beer money. The visual experience almost wasn't enough to keep me in my seat. I would have rather paid $20 to watch MJ sit around and look hot for 90 minutes.

98,000 for 20 theatres is actually descent for a mockumentary what did you expect?

I want to see it, because I love the games, but jeez, they only have it in 3D and IMAX 3D. I am very against 3D. :/
