No Heisman Trophy For Anyone!

This is kind of lame.

So yesterday, Reggie Bush handed back his Heisman Trophy because it was the right thing to do. He was a schmuck, he acknowledged it and so now it was time to move on.

As this has never happened before (an athlete returning the award) there really was no regulations to dictate what would happen next. Many assumed that the honor would go to the runner up from 2005, Vince Young. However, according to a statement from The Trustees of the Trust, that isn't happening. Their statement reads:

"As a result of Reggie Bush's decision to forfeit his title as Heisman winner of 2005, the Trustees have determined that there will be no Heisman Trophy winner for the year 2005."

What?! Stoopid! And really unfair!

If this were the Miss America pageant, this would never fly! (Just ask Vanessa Williams!)

Perez you must be that stupid. Vince Young did not win it and to give it to him 5 years later is pointless.

'If this were the Miss America pageant, this would never fly! (Just ask Vanessa Williams!)'

jesus mario, can you go 5 minutes without sounding or coming off like the biggest fudgepacker in southern california. jesus fucking christ man…

  3. 3

Reggie shouldn't have had to give his trophy that he earned back. The school is more responcible for this $#!t than anyone… They knew better… WHO DAT BABY!

  4. 4

in all honesty i bet they asked young…
Young was pretty amazing in 05
but he still didnt want to carry reggie's trophy around for the rest of his life

this isnt a pagent. its SPORTS. there is no runner up. they guy didnt win it. and after 5 years….its still not his. if i was Vince i wouldnt want it. i mean would you really want something that you didnt win and are only getting it 5 years later cause of a scandal?

  6. 6

I wouldn't want some trophy that another guy was more deserving of. He may not have deserved it ethically….but physically he was the best and I wouldn't want such a prestigious honor given to me unless I truly deserved it.

  7. 7

If Reggie had been deemed ineligible back then, someone else would have gotten. Who is it really hurting to give the award to Vince?

Vince was asked about this last week and said he wouldn't turn it down if it was offered.

  8. 8

This is what happens when you date with Kim K

  9. 9

Vince probably did the same crime, he just hasn't gotten caught (yet)

Are you fucking serious Perez? You call this stupid and unfair? You just proved what a complete idiot you are, yet again.

It should go to the next qualified (and vetted) vote getter who Reggie edged out.

I kind of like the fact the Heisman Trophy committee won't name anyone else for that year. This way, it will always remind Reggie Bush of the historic mark he's left upon the lineage of that award. This way, there will always be a glaring hole in the pages of sports annals for decades to come.

A BLANK for 2005 sends a louder message to college athletes and to future generations than giving the trophy to a "runner up".

  13. 13

No, Vince should not get it. Reggie won it because of his athleticism on the field and lost it for violating a rule/technicality that 1) did not affect his performance e.g. steroids and 2) a rule that 'SC should have been enforcing instead of looking the other way. The only way Vince should have gotten the trophy was if it was determine that Reggie used performance enhancing drugs during that year.

  14. 14

Brady Quinn should've won the trophy anyway!

  15. 15

Neither one has lived up to the hype in the pros. At least Bush has a better team to carry him.

  16. 16

Actually Perez, it is fair. You just know nothing about football. Leave sports to the people who actually watch them and go back to talking about the only thing you know about: Lady Gaga.

  17. 17

you don't know what you are talking about Perez, this isn't a friggin beauty pageant….stop talking about sports you dumb bitch!!!

  18. 18

Too bad they can't take it away from OJ Simpson. But I guess it is okay to murder your wife, just not take free plane tickets!! WHO DAT!

  19. 19

Re: Southern belle 12 – first of all, they didn't take it away from him…he gave it back — second of all, i don't recall OJ being accused of killing his wife while he was playing college ball — yet another dumb ass that has no idea what they are talking about

  20. 20

Pff, what a joke. These athletes on scholarship have to pretty much live on their parents dime even through college because of this stupid rule. They aren't allowed to get jobs or accept any form of financial help. So where is the spending money gonna come from? Where is the money to LIVE gonna come from? They cant expect the school to provide for them every step of the way. If some agent comes along and offers you money, chances are, if youre the poor college kid, you'll take the money. The NCAA should be punishing the agents. Not the players OR the schools. While Reggie Bush may have gone a step too far, his actions do not undermine his play on the field. The fact remains, he was the best college football player that year and nothing will change that.

  21. 21

Why would Vince Young want it? Who wants an award that way? If he deserved the Heisman Trophy, he would have won it 5 years ago. Reggie didn't lose the award based on his performance on the field. He lost it because he and his family are stupid and greedy and they got caught breaking the rules of the NCAA.

  22. 22

So he gave it back… Reggie Bush is still the winner, and always be to sports fans. BTW stop reporting on sports. Stick to a topic you know… like fruit burritos!!

  23. 23

These athletes make megabucks for these universities and most are not there to really study its just a way a white institution can make money of the black man for no pay, it's fucking slavery. Fuck College football, I wish more athletes went straight in the games like coby and make some fuckin money. as far as the role model bull shit , media always find a way to fuck up an athletes reputation anyway so why let the white man ride on their backs for 4 years. People got to understand if you are not an a grade athlete and you got a brain then go to college, if you got neither get a skill. The fucking role model discourse is not working for black athletes its just getting universities rich. Athletes who are 18-21 should have a trust that will pay for college and living expenses if they get injured and need another profession.

  24. 24

Re: cheerioko – Wrong. He's on the record as saying he didn't want it. Typical AU fan. Doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

    RTR!

  25. 25

    Re: mr.ghjunkie – I have to agree

  26. 26

So they are supposed to make all this money and their parent and family live dirt poor when they are contributing to a huge industry for free? WHy does whoever paid him get off scott free. The heisman association is supporting slavery. They want to reenforce status quo, have these college athlete chasing a carrot on a stick so they wont realize what they are worth. Coby and other like them are smart then a lot of them who go to college. YOu mean to tell me all these white rock stars, athletes or whatever dont be into some shit, but it's like look the other way boys will be boys but any black man the media and america is ready to crucify them. IT"S BULL SHIT WAKE UP TO RACISM IN 2010 IT"S STILL HERE!!! people want are still mad that OJ slipped through the cracks the first time and only reason why is because he was in there with to white people for years, and a man, especially a rich powerful one even if he is black has more value then a woman especially if the man was endorsing products and making even more powerful white men rich. REAL TALK

  27. 27

Neither you nor your interns have NO business writing about anything regarding sports. Not one thing. Stick to what you know and do best. Draw some more pricks on peoples faces and consider yourself "talented". You're such an ignorant douchelord.

  28. 28

Totally fair. The voting that year wasn't even close. Reggie's losing it on a technicality. He didn't play by the rules off the field. On the field, he was the best.
