Bill Maher Drops The N Word On Larry King!

| Filed under: PolitikLarry KingSarah Palin

Yikes!

Bill Maher used the N word to illustrate a point on Larry King Live and he also shared his thoughts on Sarah Palin.

We think he could have just said "n word" instead of the actual word — check it out above!

it's just a word. It only has power if we give it power

  2. 2

In this context, I don't think the "n word" is as shocking. Bill Maher is incredibly intelligent and makes some fantastic points! I am truly scared of what our country could end up like with someone like Sarah Palin running it. Truly, truly horrified.

  3. 3

Why should he say "n word" instead of the actual word? I'm not black and I'm not American. He was making a point, and I think he's the kind of person that doesn't tiptoe when it's time to talk seriously. If you, as a nation keep avoiding certain words you'll never get past racism. There are wrong, offensive ways to use the "n word" and this was certainly not one of those.

  4. 4

Re: critzy – I totally agree!

    5

it is only a word. It only has power if we give it power. and lets face it they come in all colors.

  6. 6

who cares? he didn't say it with anything that should have left anyone feeling offended. bill maher is amazing, as usual.

    7

I love Bill and he was on SPOT.

  8. 8

Meh don't make a mountain out of a molehill..Just because a white person uses the N word doesn't make him a racist. Learn the definition of "racism"

  9. 9

Bill Maher is a toolbox. No tolerance at all for religion. Love it or hate it, religion is here to stay. Christian, Muslim, Hindu, it's here to stay. Deal with it, Maher.

  10. 10

I don't like the "n word" but he's right about what the context he used it in.

  11. 11

I don't think he misused the word at all. He was making a point.

  12. imio says – reply to this

    12

It's a word, and he is not using it in order to slur anyone himself. He is simply being factual.

I wish you weren't such an attention seeking retard. You're actually trying to create hysteria, you deserve nothing but a horrible life and to be remembered for being a complete asshole.

  13. 13

I honestly hate him, from what his ex girlfriends who happen to be black says about him it always reassure how i feel about him. They basically say he dates black women just to feel this power over them. He is so insecure.

  14. 14

Huh…still mad at Superhead, I guess! Opportunity to throw a racial slur…(yes, landed it). Dumbass!

  15. 6one9 says – reply to this

    15

I was not offended by his N word use “` at all. He used it “ in context. I highly doubt you'll see any back lash over this, except for the fact that “you “` pointed it out. ALL good“““““ YO!!

  16. 16

no I don't believe that he used this word maliciously. however, I prefer no usage of it at all. Additionally, all of those who say "it only has power if we give it power" is full of crap. The word had power from it was used to rape, destroy, lynch, and abuse a bunch of people. The word is etched in blood lets not try to negate the painful history behind the word. Getting past racism encompasses much more than just using a word nonchalantly or dismissing the painful heritage behind the word. So please lets just stop minimizing it because you've not felt their pain.

  17. 17

If people are actually going to get angry about this I will truly be disappointed.

  18. 18

why does it matter? its not like he used it to insult someone.

  19. 19

Maher is an athiest and makes fun of anyone who believes in anything…real tolerant fellow. Once again the Democrats are using race as a weapon. They have been playing people of color like a drum for years. People of color are only supposed to be liberal. If they are not they must be ignorant and stupid according to clowns like him. He is intelligent but a big time asshole who thinks his word is the last word

  20. 20

Bill has always defended blacks and he did not use it in a racist way whatsoever. Anybody who hears his material and watches his show knows that he meant well with this comment here.

  21. 21

Don't like the N word and don't think it should be used. Don't like Palin and sincerely hope she never runs for President. Dislike Maher and think he's full of crap and a total sleaze. If someone disagrees with the President or with the Left it is not because they are racist it's because they don't like the policies being shoved down their throat. Didn't like Bush and don't like Obama.

  22. 22

You are the first person I've seen make a big deal about it. He didnt use it in type of context at all! If CNN didnt bleep it for later shows (which they didnt as I saw it used on video clips from the taping later on) I dont think its that big of a deal

  23. 23

He is right why is there so much racism within the Republican/Tea Party.

  24. 24

I think your a hypocritical dick wad. When Dr laura did it you slammed her for weeks. now the Supposed 'incredibly intelligent' says it and you want to know our thoughts. face it of this was a conservative you'd be all over them.

    go fuck yourself Perez!!!

  25. 25

    What a supreme douche.

  26. 26

Every black person within a 1,000 mile radius UNDERSTOOD THE POINT BILL WAS MAKING. And I believe they were all OK with it.

  27. 27

I don't take offense to this comment at all. It's a word and only holds power if we let it. Take that away and its only 6 letters! Now if you tell me he has a past of being racist then I say he was trying to get away with using the word on live tv as an FU but I dont think that was the case.

  28. 28

This guy has always been a creep. Watch out people he has a far bigger agenda. He doesn't believe in marriage or God. He joked on Jay Leno that marriage was an antiquated institution so women don't have to work and get paid alimony. He says he will never marry. He is pro pornography too. I'm not a prude but I love my marriage and family!

  29. 29

heres a thought: why dont we ALL just stop saying that word?

  30. 30

Mmm I thought it was gonna be some kinda racism but turns out he actually used it in a good context. Not a bad guy.

  31. 31

Bill Maher–all he needs is a chalkboard and a few tears and he'd morph completely into Glenn Beck. They're both nutcases and I don't understand why anyone takes anything either one of them says seriously.

  32. 32

Now to see if the Democrats skewer him as they've skewered every other Republican who's said it! Liberals are thee most hypocritical a-holes!

  33. 33

he has actually always been a champion for equal rights.. i don't believe that this was said in a derogatory manner in any way..

  34. 34

Does he realize Martin Luther King was a Republican? Why is it that so few people know that…

  35. 35

To say that a particular race of people is not allowed to use certain words is racist in itself; especially when the affected race uses the word so loosely. An argument could be made if blacks never uttered the "N word" but they use it in many different ways, even as a term of endearment. It's a ridiculous social norm. People need to get over themselves, but if they can't I have a solution.

The easy way, in my opinion, to balance this verbal inequality is this. Whites should start calling each other "cracker." "What's up, my cracker?" "Cracker, you crazy!!" "I'll have a glass of Pinot, cracker." Additionally, black people should be banned from using the word. And if and when a black person does utter the word, whites can react as if a hate crime occurred. Furthermore, whites can unite and protest when blacks in movies use phrases like…."I could hang here, this place is cracka-lackin'"

I think it's a necessity for equality. Don't you agree, my crackers?!!

    haha

  36. 36

i watched this (brilliant) interview, and if this is all anyone gets out of it? that would be tragic.

  37. 37

Oh shut up Perez. All you are doing is trying to create some drama so you have something to blog about besides Z list reality stars.

  38. 38

For once someone in the media used it properly. AND he made is point (and a very correct one) that the GOP is catering to racists. Rock on Bill!

  39. 39

what is much more offensive than his usage of the n word is that list of potential candidates for President. and he didn't even mention Mike Fuckabee.

  40. 40

he can absolutely use it in this case cause what he is saying is TRUE

  41. 41

it's all about the context. bill mayer isn't a racist. i see no problem.

  42. 42

Re: critzy – yes exactly. I totally agree with what you said. And even though it soesn't really affect me, who gonna run in 2012, because i'm not a us citizen, but it truly scares me to think that in almost 2-3 years we could be probably living in a world where someone like SARAH PALIN is president of the United States. ih gooooosh. NOW i believe that 2012 the world is gonna end.

  43. 43

A word is a word is a word, and n***** is a fiery one, but in the context of Bill's expression, I believe he was using it to the right effect. Mr. Maher is a dry-wit, well-informed, contemplative comedian who does not exploit politics for cheap laughs. While I have hopes this word will eventually lose some of his snarl, I believe it was used carefully to correctly describe the flavor of resentment currently roiling in the Republican party these days.

  44. 44

Re: Hubris – Oh stop. The history of the C-word doesn't have people being lynched, rapped, beaten behind it.. Just stop.. Again someone dismissing another's pain … PuHleeze..

  45. 45

If Bill Mayer was black this would not even have spiked your radar. He did not use the word out of context. It's embarrassing to see how far we have come as a society, but still find it necessary to play childish games with vocabulary!

  46. 46

in the context of his point he was right to say it. not offended at all. valid points all around from him.

  47. 47

Re: BodyCake.com – right because his entire life is a quest to get back at some whore.

  48. 48

    Re: Hubris – Totally agree!

  49. 49

What is America a bunch of 5-year-olds let him say the fucking word!

  50. 50

The context in which Bill uses the word I don't find offensive (besides everyone knows Bills loves black women). However, let's not get carried away and start using the word again (the word means hate the world will never expect this word for anything else but hate). I don't agree with Bill's religious views…but he is so on point regarding politics and that dumb ass Sarah Palin. I can't believe people have forgotten the mess the last administration left this country in…. It took 8 years for Bush to destroy what Bill Clinton created. It is going to take longer the 1 1/2 years for Obama to clean up the mess that was left in the White House.

  51. 51

Give me a break…why is it okay for blacks to use this word and white people, not so much. So sick of double standards. Isn't there anything else in the world going on that maybe deserves the attention that this is claiming.

  52. 52

Re: Hubris – Very nicely said!!

  53. 53

Bill Maher is a true intellectual. Him saying the N word is not salacious at all, it was a part of a long point he was trying to make. Thanks for pointing that out Perez.

And i hope it didn't insult anyone that he said the N word. It only has power if you give it power. Don't react.

  54. 54

In all fairness the slave era ended about 100 years ago. Today's generation of people never were slaves and never owned slaves. You really can't claim that the word has power because of how it was used a century ago. It's a shitty thing that there were ever slaves at all but it happened, it's ended and we all need to move on.

  55. 55

Perez, you routinely call people fat and ugly, draw cum stains and dicks on their faces, use the word "white trash" frequently and make fun of people's mental illnesses and substance abuse problems without holding anything back. You're the last person who should be lecturing anyone on political correctness.

  56. 56

OK…He did say the word. Just like Dr. Laura did…but see if he gets any heat at all…Probably not…you will have the Perez Hiltons of the world defending him…

  57. 57

Re: critzy – I say I would rather have Sarah Palin any day that what we have now. No difference in this than in Dr. Laura's rhetoric…

  58. 58

Re: birdlegs – It is all that they have..and they are using that up quick.

  59. 59

He said it in context to what he was saying about the republicans trying to hate blacks…it was okay!!!

  60. 60

who are the rejects who will spew about this…Bill is right!!!

  61. 61

    Good for him-
Everyone knows they all wanna say it…
Soc'list., Marxist, Nazi, Hitler, Kenyan, Muslim, Osama Hussein, Un American, Arab…
All tea bagger for the N word!
He called them out again, that's all. Love ya Bill!

  62. 62

alot of hate for Bill on this site…he speaks the truth!!!

  63. 63

    Re: critzy – ABSOLUTELY AGREE!

  64. 64

    Re: AttFinch – LOL :)

  65. 65

Re: Azzholio – atheism is here to stay as well. so deal with it.

  66. 66

Re: birdlegs – just FYI, he doesn't classify himself as a Democrat…

  67. 67

Re: WatcherOne – yes, but MLK would not be part of what the republican party is today. Funny how YOU don't know that.

  68. 68

Re: jtssrx – You are unbelievably illiterate. Foe one thing, it's "you're", not "your," when you're conjoining "you" and "are." Students with a C average in the fourth grade know this. I'm too tired to go into all your other writing flaws, so I'll close by saying everything you say, in form and in content, is retarded.

  69. 69

using the the term n word instead of ni##er is a cop out, we all know what the n word is, people grow some ballz

  70. 70

    Re: Coach K – AGREED!!!!

  71. 71

Bill is pratically black himself. he was making a point and he dates black women. And I highly dobt h dates black women to feel power cause black women do not play that.. It might be the other way around. He might like black women because they are strong women who do not put up with any crap from men..

  72. MP says – reply to this

    72

I'll admit I gasped when he said that. I would rather not hear the word at all.

  73. 73

He is ABSOLUTELY correct! He used the word in context, pointing out what Newt Gingrich really meant when he refered to the President as " a Kenyan tribesman, etc.".
The Republicans have polarized the country with their stupidity, religion and racism.

  74. 74

I could care less that Bill Maher said the N word, but Perez, you are an idiot. Seriously, I can't stand Perez. Stick to GOSSIP. You give Laura so much shit about what she said, but Bill Maher is just trying to "make a point." BULLSHIT.

  75. 75

In my opinion, the N word is more damaging when used conversationally and casually by Blacks. I hate hearing Blacks use the word; it saddens me. I am not bothered when non Blacks use the N word, especially in the context that Maher used the "word." I think Maher's overall point is more important than the usage of the N word here… let's focus on that.

  76. 76

Don't get your pants in an uproar. He clearly said it to make a valid point which he did …and on the side of people of color everywhere

  77. 77

I'm as liberal as they come but I know for damn sure if that were Sarah Palin sitting in that chair and she dropped the N word in the exact same context you would be throwing a shit fit. I don't like Bill but I do know that he is intelligent and he could have come up with a different way to get his point across. A lot of people on here are saying that it's just a word but they forget that there are thousands of people in America today who remember when that word appropriated murder.

  78. 78

Re: Hubris – You are an idiot! Do you even know what you are arguing? When did black people ever say 'Lets go lynch that cracker" or "You better not stare at any black woman, cracker" or "no cracker can walk on the sidewalk when a black person is on it."??

  79. 79

Re: critzy – maybe u should be horrified about the idiot who is in power now….

  80. 80

it is nor ONLY a word!
    it is THE word!
i'm black and i know what it mean when other people say it like you mimsi its only a word bla bla bla bla!
i can only say: SHUT THE FUCK UP! when you are not black and doesnt know what this word means for us!

  81. elRey says – reply to this

    81

Bill Maher is exactly RIGHT. Those idiot Republicans cannot STAND the fact that a black man is in the white house, and that's what all the BS about "Kenyan" ideologies is about -they can't SAY the N-word but that is exactly what they are freaked out about, and the rest is just phony justifications why Mr. Obama is "evil" and "ruining the country" they are just pathetic racists who think its evil to have a black man in the white house and a black man is ruining the country. PURE BS. These whack-jobs like Sarah Palin will not ever run this country.

  82. 82

I didn't take offense to it but I'm not black and it doesn't have the same personal meaning for me. However saying "the N word" instead would have been stupid and would not have illustrated his point as effectively.

I think he's a little paranoid of the Republicans though. As much as the Reps use rhetoric so do the Dems and this same old same old about the Reps affiliation with the religous right is just an example of the type of rhetoric used to stir up the church and state separatist liberals. Don't get me wrong I in no way support the Reps, most of them are pretty scary and I'm not American so I really have no valid opinion on American politics because I can't vote. But I can point out that Maher is playing the same PR game as Palin et all he's just using different words.

  83. rev3 says – reply to this

    83

dr. laura controversy has made it okay to say it now

    sorry guys

this topic has jumped the shark

  84. 84

    Re: Mimsi – I couldn't agree more!

  85. 85

I have nothing but respect for this man. What he has to say actually holds substance unlike a lot of people ranting and raving these days.

  86. Pisky says – reply to this

    86

Didn't mind how he used it honestly, and his observations of Palin coudl be on spot, don't like her really at all, but in general he's extremely ignorant, he's an extreme left minded idiot, as are all extreme left minded people, same goes for extreme right minded, but to generalize republicans who are gonna be running in 2012 into one little box just displays how ignorant and biased he really is. His show is laughably biased on HBO and he gets demolished in debate everytime he's gone on O'reilly factor for debate, but i do look forward for massacres at the hands of oreilly =).

  87. 87

Black & not offended. Just sayin'. He didn't mean it as an insult. It was simply part of the points he was making about the Republican thinking process. He had/has some excellent points. Anyone who is offended by the use of the word in that context needs to get over it. Stop being SOOO PC.

  88. 88

his usage was extremely appropriate… racism is a scary thing, and is VERY MUCH alive people

  89. 89

ok i gonna guess that a lot of the people who left these comments arent black. i find it not only disrespectly but pure inconsideration with everyone on here saying that they arent offended and to not make a mountain out of a molehill. my thing is is if it was a black person saying a derogratoring name toward an asian, latio, or white person they would be outraged. i was horribly offended. i am a black woman and therefore it matters. if someone talks about another race or mentions a mean thing about them you wont get offended because you arent that race, but i am that race. when a white person says the n word you dont go to another white person and ask them are they offended. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THEY ARE! THEY ARENT BLACK!

  90. 90

Re: Hubris – when a certain race of people uses a single word to oppress another race its wrong. for centuries white people used a horrible word to describe a particular type of people. nowadays blacks have taken that word and gave it a different meaning; love. a white person using that word gives off too many wounds of what has happened, but then again you arent black i dont expect you do get it

  91. 91

    Re: bebita777 – youre wrong.

  92. 92

everything he said was true..good luck over the next 10 years America you're going to need it(America is the next Rome)

  93. 93

Re: Bellagio – ok just to reply to this because people correcting peoples english on here is annoying, firstly i majored in english but cant be bothered and am usually just too lazy to type correctly on here either so dont bug me please with the english class bullshit so you can sound intelligent.who cares????????????

  94. 94

Oh please. He didn't use it in an harmful way! Get over it. This interview isn't even about that..
