Ricki Lake's Malibu House Burns Down!

But thankfully everyone's OK!

Ricki Lake's Malibu rental home went up in flames Saturday morning after a couch was caught on fire. She was able to escape along with her two sons and their dog.

Lake told authorities that she was trying to refuel a portable heater when the couch caught fire. The flames quickly spread, destroying the rest of her home.

Her rep says that she "lost many personal items, but is grateful that everyone is okay." She is currently staying with friends.

We're not sure why she was handling fuel so close to her furniture, but we're just glad she and her family got out safely.

Sounds like an insurance scam to me.

Sounds like someone couldn't afford their home anymore and needed a way out. You don't ever refuel anything inside a house. The fumes alone would cause damage to everyone around you.

yeah, weird story. I am sure we havent heard the end of this one. Although there are some more rustic areas of Malibu and it does get chillier in the evenings being so close to the ocean and with the canyons. There really isnt enough info to judge.

It was a rental ..was she renting it or was it a house she rented out to live in?? If she rented it out she may have had the power shut off and was using the portable heater as a temp heat source.
