So sad!

Spatacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield will be leaving the TV series due to a recurrence of cancer that will require "aggressive treatment."

The star said in a statement:

"It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey."

Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this year and was considered cancer-free after being treated in July.

Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht says:

"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time. Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."

We wish him the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

I was wondering how he was doing and obviously hoping for the best as with Showtime's Dexter character who has made a total recovery from his Cancer ordeal.
My heart just goes out to this man and his loved ones I have have seen loved ones of my own struggle with this disease some to die and some to recover.
Keep fighting Andy and know there are people you don't even know who care about and are praying for your "total" recovery that you may live out your life in full joy, as you were meant to .

That is indeed very sad. He is such a great actor and Spartacus won't be the same without him. I wish he and his family the very best and hope he will be able to beat cancer for good.

Andy Whitfield is a great guy.
I just want him to defeat this awful cancer, even if it means he can't come back.

It is totally a shame. A wonderful actor and family man like this is going through this, but Lindsay and Paris fuck up all the time and are healthy.

    he will be cured

    this type is totally curable

  14. 14

@rev3: unfortunately, that is not really true. you are prolly thinking about hodgkin's lymphoma which is essentially "curable" (~85% are alive after 5 years). Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is more aggressive and has a high recurrence rate. There's a whole spectrum of disorders called NHL but 5-yr survival is ~65%. his next steps would be bone marrow transplant, likely allogenic (sibling-matched) and treatment can be very toxic but hopefully he will handle it well since he is so young. thinking about him and his family in this very difficult time.

My prayers are with you and your family, Andy. If anyone can beat this thing, Spartacus can! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Sending Love and healing energy♥

i suffered non hodkins myself back in 2001. the illness is very dangerous but can be treated very easy also. chemo sucks. i had 8 so called "chops" (chemo sessions) together with mapthera (rituximab) which eases the effects of chemotherapy. but the whole thing sucks anyway. i wish him strength and much love from his family. dude…you will defeat it. im sure. just don't let yourself go and all will be fine, althought it is difficult. if I can do it, you can to ;-)
    all the best
