Portia Takes Ellen’s Last Name!

Yay!

Portia de Rossi has a new name: Portia Lee James DeGeneres.

Ellen and Portia were married in August 2008. Portia finally asked for the name change a month ago, and it was made official by a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner today.

We’re so happy for you two! Congrats!

    I would never give up my name for anyone - man or woman. So this just doesn't sit well with me. That said…whatever makes them happy…it should certainly be their choice.

    This is absolutly the best news i've read on this site today. Ellen & Portia are both beautiful & very strong women. I love the fact that she took her name, & that they were able to even get married. I'm not a lesbian, i'm very much straight. But i believe in Rights, and I believe that everyone has the right to love and marry whom they wish! Go Ellen & Portia.

    Portia de Rossi is hot….well…at least she used to be when she was on the t.v. show Ali McBeal. She doesn't look so great here. It looks like a 5 year old did a number on her hair with the scissors. But trust - she is a beautiful woman.

    There is a law, here, which PROHIBITS the woman to take her husband's name. A woman shoud not lose your name when she gets married.

    What that woman did is against women"s rights. She should be ashamed.

    What is up with the James in the name. I just don't get that part of it. Ellen has really changed since she met Portia and I don't think it's for the best. She has become someone else and not the real Ellen. I liked the old one better from years ago. The money that she is making now is going to her head and she flaunts it on her tv show all the time and it's very annoying. When your blessed with wealth you shouldn't throw it in everyone's faces. We know your richer than rich Ellen. We know.

    it's just culture people. i mean hispanics take on both mother and father's last name and we like it short so we just take on husband's last name. but ultimately it is up to you to decide. you would think oh i finally feel that i am committed and im ready to change my last name. it just makes things simpler when you got a common last name. fine , i say just pick whichever one sounds the best haha.
