Strictly Ballroom Becoming A Stage Musical!

He's going back to his roots! We don't blame him, after that shiteous Australia movie!

Director Baz Luhrmann is reportedly adapting his film debut, Strictly Ballroom, into a stage musical!

He reveals in a statement:

"After years of talk about bringing Strictly Ballroom to the musical stage, I'm energized by the partnership we have made with Global Creatures, an Australian company that has made a giant impression on the world's stages over the last 3 years. Strictly Ballroom has always been very personal to me, the genesis drawn from my childhood experience in the world of ballroom dancing. The creative and life ideals of the story, that being that a life lived in fear is a life half lived; and creativity triumphing over creative oppression, the belief there's always more than just one way to cha cha cha, are ideals I live and create by to this day."

In an interesting twist, Luhrmann wrote the original script as a stage play while he was studying at Sydney's National Institute of Dramatic Art, so we think that will definitely help the adaptation process along this time around!

We LOVE the movie, so we're psyched that he's bringing it to the stage!

What do U think??

Whatta great movie! Had no idea the creator had it originally set for the stage. I hope it does well, the flick was a fam favorite despite it's formulaic ugly duckling –> swan metamorphosis aspect.

OMG-I love that movie. Must have watched it hundreds of times. It was filmed like a play so it shouldn't be too hard to adapt to the stage. Very exciting!!

you know Roxy I completely over looked that. I loved Australia! IT was an Epic BazMark romance! IF the writer of this post know Lhurmanns style of film making then they wouldn't be so quick to rag on that movie
