The Sister Wives Continue Creeping Everyone Out

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV News

We kind of wish we could have been in the meeting where someone pitched this Big Love-esque reality show. We would have been the first one to stand up and protest: TOO CREEPY!

Check out this clip above from last night's premiere of Sister Wives, the story of one man, four wives, 13 children and one hour of disturbing television.

I'm sorry… but how is this any different from marriage between a man and woman, man and man, woman and woman… if we're supposed to all be equal to marry who we love then what's wrong with loving more than one person?

  2. 2

he hugged and patted the last one on the back like it was his sister………..and jealousy? yeah, you should feel that when your man is with another woman, that's NORMAL. oh dear, and there's children involved………poor things will be so confused………

  3. 3

Your comments seem a little hypocritical to me, Perez. It's interesting that you find the behavior of consenting adults creepy because it doesn't go along with your idea of "marriage." Is polygamy for me? Nope. But the idea doesn't bother me, so long as those who are married are consenting adults.

  4. 4

The dude needs a haircut…and he also needs to go to prison. He can have as many "wives" as he wants there.

  6. 6

    eww- freaky scary yucky people

  7. 7

It's really not that creepy Perez! I mean, c'mon! It's a lifestyle choice that has worked for them for 16 years. For someone who claims to be so progressive, to say something like that is just crazy!

  8. 8

I believe in Polyamory… so the only really creepy thing here are the actual people. It's stranger when it's in a religious context too. But, I think that this is another case of adults consenting to something that makes them happy. I thought you were a champion of that idea…

  9. 9

How is this show okay but Polygamy as a whole is frowned upon? I don't get it. TLC, I won't be watching this show.

  10. 10

This guy is really sick. How can they even try to portray this as anything other than disturbing distasteful. I feel sorry for his wives.

  11. 11

I wanna watch this show..lol..but no way in hell do I think its right

  12. 12

It's creepy because it is directly connected to sexual abuse and brainwashing of young girls and women. And then this fool gets to act out his untreated sex addiction as an open lifestyle to top it off. Not to mention the brainwashing of the children who are raised to believe that this is how life should be and the female children being taught every single day that this is all they deserve.

  13. 13

This guy is living the life. Those women have every right to feel jealous. Can they go out and screw other men??

  14. 14

Re: jekyll&hyde – This is different from a marriage between 2 people because there is no equality. These relationships are totally driven by the man and the women accept a totally subservient role. Throw in religion and the prevalence of coercion and abuse of underage girls, and you get CREEPY.

  15. 15

All hail the narrow minded! Surprisingly that is the same verbaige used by those opposed to gay marriage. Personally I rather enjoyed the preview and look forward to the potential of the family getting down to "brass taxes" so to speak and provide a good insight to poly relationships. The kids appear well adjusted…I say live let live and enjoy the show…

  16. 16

If they are happy, good for them. I don't find it creepy.

  17. 17

I want to know how this guy can afford 4 wives and 16 kids.

  18. 18

upcoming premiere? hello, it was last night. honestly Mario, your blog is getting messier by the day -

  19. 19

This is totally disgusting to me..and i feel completely disgusted about the women who allow men like this in their lives…And the guy??+My goodness..words can't state the way i feel about that guy. To me this is glorifying another type of emotional abuse and women who dont grasp the meaning of selfesteem. I am simply but utterly disgusted…

  20. 20

I understand that everyone is entitled to live their lives however they feel is right for them and to each their own. I watched about 15 mins of the show and I just didn't click with the show. Personally, I don't agree with the idea of polygamy so I'll choose not to watch it in the future. It's not something I find entertaining or interesting to watch.

  21. 21

so let me get this right - gay marriage OK, plural marriage Icky? Sorta intellectually dishonest don't ya think?

  22. 22

Wtf I feel sorry for the kids. But I guess it can be like a party everyday…. I wonder what the man works for — seems to be getting pretty good pay.

  23. 23

Polygamy is illegal, is it not? Should we assume this guy is getting around it by not "legally" marrying more than one woman? Or will the season finale be the cliffhanger where the cops come get his ass?

  24. 24

i wouldn't watch this weird shit if you paid me. i don't want this sad, SAD family making any money.

  25. 25

It's sad that we live in a country where all of the bible belting uber conservaterds are anti-gay marriage but this crap is okay. This is what you call one deceivingly "lucky" man and three brainwashed idiots.

  26. 26

Coming from someone who believes that the government has no place in the bedroom - I'm surprised Perez that you think this is so "creepy." I think these are four consenting adults who are raising their kids a LOT better than what most Americans provide. They aren't hurting one, so who are we to say what they can and cannot do? Unless you want to start telling Gays who they can and cannot marry (oh, oops) I think we should stop judging these people so harshly.

  27. 27

Re: Lovelive – So, are you saying children raised in Christian or Catholic homes AREN'T being brainwashed in some way? We all are raised with the same belief systems as our parents - for most americans, it is shoved down their throats. The mothers say it very clear "If this is not the lifestyle for them, then that's fine." They even tell the girls they need education before they get married. They seemed liked very caring and level headed women to me. As long as they are of legal age and of healthy mind, they should be able to do what they want.

  28. 28

Some are saying "hey if they're happy, let em be" - the one woman confessed she's jealous when he's with another one of his wives. Jealousy and happiness do not go together. And comment 12 is absolutely correct - they are teaching the young girls growing into woman in that household to have no self worth, meaning or esteem (i.e. be a doormat).
and another wife said he's her soulmate - she didn't get that memo that said "he's not yours"………..

  29. 29

OMG I can't believe what a hypocrite you are! Where's all your talk about individual rights when it comes to these people. They are all adults and should be allowed to live as they wish as long as they aren't harming others.

  30. 30

Re: wwwtomakemoney.ws – You said it, you're right on the money!! but to me, the biggest problem here are the wives! My lord, have a little self respect!

  31. 31

I guess my thoughts echo the same thing some others have posted. What does it matter if it involves consenting adults, man & woman, man & man, woman & woman, man & women, women & man? Seems hypocritical that you can say this is creepy but what you do isn't. Personally I find gay relationships creepy but that is because I am straight and have no idea why people are attracted to the same sex. Either way I am not against it, whatever makes you happy.

  32. 32

Another thought, I bet if TLC paid to advertise this show on this site you would be singing a different tune. You are nothing but a sell-out, hypocrite.

  33. 33

Re: KCRosie – yeah - i heard something along the way, he's only really married to one. the "marriage" to the other woman is called something else…..

  34. 34

    Re: Lovelive

The fact that he is a polygamist does not make him a sex addict. Clearly he can go about life and work and live "normally", he isn't constantly in need of sex. And just because he has three wives does not mean he is getting more sex than he would get with one wife. He is only sharing a bed with one woman each night. It's not more sex; it's just different sex.
And I did not see in the show the daughters being taught that their place is in the home or that they are there to serve men. The oldest son was up early making breakfast for his brothers and sisters every morning. Certainly in some polygamous families the daughters are mistreated. But not in every family. If you think that kids are always better off raised in a monogamous household you are wrong too. There are plenty of kids who would be better off with more parents, love and support than just their own monogamous parents.

  35. 35

Personally, I'm not for polygamy - but I can remove myself from it enough to say that the show was till creepy. Not bc of the lifestyle, but the man himself just rubbed me the wrong way! I mean, I could careless who he was married to, still a creeper! And that one wife that kept on saying she wanted to be a 3rd wife and at one pt. wanted sister-wives more than a husband was just odd. I mean, I know that's bc I don't understand it. Bottom line is - if you're an adult and you know what you're getting into then I suppose that's your deal, HOWEVER, I really don't agree when kids are involved. It's unfair to them. I think children should have 2 parents and that is it (gay or straight -but just 2). Call me closed minded, idc -that's how I feel about it all.

  36. 36

Gay marriage is creepier.. how about that you judgemental fuck. I can't stand you sometimes. Who are you to stand back and judge these people as creepy? I'm sure if you ask people they'll say Gay marriage is creepy and then you'll get your borrowed lady gagwhore panties twisted up in a bunch. Everyone has the right to marry who they choose, who are you to judge them. Hypocrite.

  37. 37

Oh and ok, so the unit had been together for almost 17 years w/o distraction but now he wants to "court" another wife - who lives 4 HOURS AWAY?!! How are you spending this time you claim to spend w/ your family… he even says his wives don't like the idea of him having a gf - and to me that is disrespectful. Believe in polygamy or not, he's still not considering their feelings.

I feel sorry for them, solely for that reason.

Oh, and this is a serious question bc I do not know - but I thought polygamy was illegal? Or are there certain places where it still is??

  38. 38

I watched it and it was actually quite eye-opening. Don't get me wrong, I would not want that life for myself, but the wives seem not only OK with it, but they seem very happy. As long as they are all consenting adults who aren't hurting anybody, and the kids are loved, cared for and happy, who are we to tell them what to do?

  39. 39

    Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk
Funny. It's sad that hypocritical Liberals think Gay marriage is ok but Polygamy is wrong. If they are consenting adults (and they clearly are) then what is the problem? Because you don't like it? Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

  40. 40

Re: kimberlybreann – Parents may try to instill their own belief system in their children, that doesn't mean it will "take". I have none of the same religious beliefs as my Mother, yet we have a very close relationship. I believe this family should have the same right as everyone to do as they see fit. However, I do have to admit that I am a little creeped out by the husband especially.

  41. 41

Re: jekyll&hyde – Seriously? Did you really just go there? After all women have fought for you're going to stick up for this and not see anything wrong with it?

  42. 42

That guys hair is what is creepy, holy hell.

  43. 43

I don't really see what was so creepy about that.

  44. 44

What I want to know is how he can have all of these wives and children on his health insurance

  45. 45

I've read this site for quite a bit of time without ever having a huge desire to comment. Perez - you are a damn douchebag. You sit there and criticize every person that finds being gay "creepy" or "disturbing" yet then turn around and bash polygamists? YOU and people like you are why I don't support "equal rights for all". Because you don't want equal rights, you want gay rights. You know what I find disturbing, disgusting, and creepy? 2 men in a relationship together.
The current fight for gay rights would be as if African Americans didn't include mexicans in their fight for minorities. The day gays actually want "EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL" (which includes polygamists), is the day they might get my thumbs up.

Until then, fuck you perez. You hypocritical piece of shit.

  46. 46

Re: puleezzz – The kids may appear adjusted however I know many adults that were products of polygamy, they are NOT adjusted.

  47. 47

I really don't see anything wrong with polygomy. The wives are happy, the husband is happy and I'm sure the kids are growing up in a loving enviroment. This is not a compound case where the wives are 13 years old! So who cares to each its own!!! I am impressed that they are coming out and letting the nation world who they really are!

  48. 48

Some of you are hilarious - you say that polygamy teaches women that they aren't necessary or are not valued - what do you think a gay relationship says when a girl has 2 fathers? Sounds like women aren't needed for them! In polygamist relationships, women are extremely important. Anyone feeling "bad" for the kids should have the same feeling for any gay parents.
Those of you talking about Jealousy? I hate to break it to you (as a married man), but jealousy is a factor in EVERY relationship…polygamist or not.

  49. 49

wow polygamy is sooo wrong these women need to get out of there bubble so they relize how messed up this is and what its doing to there kids

  50. 50

I have never commented on your site and I feel like I needed to on this one!
I find your c0ment to be very hypocritical of your part or of anyone on your staffs part. Being different than what we are used to is not bad it is not “TOO Creepy” “We would have been the first one to stand up and protest” Really??? I mean we should be able as a humanity be able to embrace other peoples cultures and what they decide to do with their life. As long as they are not killing or hurting others why would it be so bad as to look at them and say wow that is something new. You don’t have to LOVE it and say OH I am going to do that.. But just be able to look at someone that does not think like you and does not have the same sexual preference as you and say ok… I am sure you PEREZ felt bad when people feel that you are “too Creepy” or that people need to feel like they need to “protest You!” I don’t feel that way at all and I EMBRACE ALL types of life styles.

  51. 51

I say more power to them! Monogamy is no more "natural" than polygamy or polyamory. And for those that say the kids will be confused. That's BS. These kids probably get more attention from their parents (all 4 of them) than most kids of monogamous married couples. You judging them because "you" can't imagine being in a polygamous marriage is not different than a straight man saying homosexuality is wrong because he is grossed out by the idea of having sex with another man. grow up Perez.

  52. car says – reply to this

WHAT THE CRAP is wrong with these woman. I would NEVER "share" my husband, Id kick his ass.

  53. 53

Yes, bigamy is illegal but this show is taped in Utah where a blind eye is turned to the practice. It was only a couple of years ago that the cover story on Salt Lake Magazine was a story on plural marriage. As for how the women and children are on his health insurance - they likely are not. It is not uncommon for the second and additional wives and children to be on state aid.

  54. 54

I would think you Perez would be open to this and not bring them down! I think you need to look at this again and support the minority because you are in the minority as well.

  55. 55

    Re: trishamafia

Thank You for showing polyamory and polygamy as different! I was harrased the other day on a different post about Sister Wives for the fact that my family is polyamorous and I choose to share my husband. Apparently the fact that we choose this lifestyle makes us bad role models to our children, so some people say. But like you mentioned, our kids our so loved and supported. The fact that they have two moms and a dad just makes them more loved, not neglected.

  56. 56

They're all fucktards! Hellalooya praise de lord…

  57. 57

Creepy??? As with any other relationship that isn't the "norm" it is their choice. I just think it is another example of the way people are allowed to love in this day and age.

  58. 58

Let's see, consenting adults choosing to live an "alternative" lifestyle, wanting the same rights as other more "traditional" marraiges. Sounds familiar? Seems to me you are being pretty judgemental and hypocritical Perez??? No8 right?

  59. 59

    Re: jekyll&hyde – Read a bible dumbass!

  60. 60

WHY IS IT YOU NEVER SEE A WOMAN KEEPING 3 OR 4 HUSBANDS?!?! Women degrade themselves by compromising just to have a man. Men use this as an excuse to have multiple sex partners…being the rooster in the hen house. If that's what they want to do…whatever, don't plan on watching them play house. THERE'S A REASON POLYGAMY IS ILLEGAL IN THE USA!

  61. 61

    Re: Lovelive – totally agree

  62. 62

Re: rosebud99 – thanks rosebud i wanted to say something to that fool just couldnt find the words, nail on head there.

  63. 63

Re: adoption rules – fuck no not is not the same thing at all get a clue dumbass

  64. 64

Re: kimberlybreann – religion and openly fucking three different women around your kids are completely different one has nothing to do with the other.

  65. 65

  66. 66

    Re: jojo123

Clearly someone is uneducated judging by the way you spell. And maybe you should watch the show before assuming that they are all creepy. The wives are educated as well as the children. And they are choosing this lifestyle; they were never forced into it. They even state that they believe in marrying for love. And many of us who are ok with this lifestyle or pratice a form of plural relationships are educated, free thinking, free willed and have great self esteem. Just because your self esteem would crumble in this type of relationship doesn't mean that some people can't be happy and fulfilled living poly.

  67. 67

WTF?! How is gay marriage and this BS polygamy on the same page? This has nothing to do with being open-minded, wtf. Marriage is love between TWO people, no matter gender. If there was a polygamy family that was a gay man with 3 husbands, it still would be BS. Put yourself in this position and see if you'd feel that this "lifestyle" is progressive and equal. I feel sorry for those women, they feel he is her soulmate..not really. How is your soulmate gonna be having sex with other women and you knowing about it? Those women must be brainwashed, them acutally feeling okay with sharing her husband.

  68. 68

Honestly I think more married women wouldn't mind another wife. Someone they can tak to, have support from and to help out, and to be a friend. Just saying….

  69. 69

    wrong on sooooo many levels!!!

  70. 70

I imagine as the 3 (4?) wives age and the guy keeps adding wives much younger than themselves their casual attitudes about it being okay will quickly change. If I were his first (and legal) wife with the one child I'd be looking to bail from the chaos and collect my alimony and child support!

  71. 71

What's the difference between "marriage is between TWO people" and "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve"? Absolutely nothing. Love takes on many forms, and it is never creepy. The fact that some of us are bigoted and narrow minded doesn't change that. They don't even want legal marriage for their multiple wives - they are happy to just be living together. And yet they are persecuted by gays here who are at the same time trying to push for the legitimization of their lifestyle. If someone is bothered by homosexuality - you say that is their choice, but they should not push their views on sexuality on relationships on you. And the same applies for polygamy. You are nothing but hypocrites, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  72. 72

How can you call this creepy when you obsess over underage children. Now THAT is creepy.

  73. 73

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! and one of them wants to work with adolescents.

  74. 74

I find the whole practice strange and its def not for me. That said, I think many of the people that commenting clearly did not watch this show. They actually say they don't care if their daughters enter into polygamist relations as long as they marry someone they love. The one wife even tells her daughters that they shouldn't marry until they go to school.

One of the wives works full time and another one goes to school full time to be a psychologist. Two of the wives don't ever cook. Several of the women say they were courted by single men, but decided on their own to enter into polygamist relationships. Some were from polygamist families and some weren't. All of them were adults when they entered the relationship and some have kids from previous relationships.

I'm not for polygamy, but at least know what you are talking about before you speak.

  75. 75

I used to watch Big Love. I was a huge fan. I'm not against polygamy, it's consenting adults living the way they want to, so who am i to judge. But it's hard to believe that these women are completely ok with how things are. Their "religion" says that a man can take as many wives as he likes etc. I'm not sure on the details. But how can you believe that this man is taking every wife he does based on just god telling him to do so. Who's to say he doesn't abuse the system just because he's bored or wants someone younger? Thats what you see in most of these high profile criminal cases. Old old men, marrying 30 women, most of them practically children.

  76. 76

After reading this I'm reminded of Hugh Hefner. Women need to get some self respect. The man is the one with all the power in a situation like this. What a message to send to one's children, especially the daughters.

  77. 77

How is this creepy? And less you forget many say the same about gay people. They are adults and deserve to live it how they like. There kids will turn out much better than couples of one man one woman that are druggies or abusers. It pisses me off you judge them the same way others judge you about your sexuality.

  78. gljb says – reply to this

What a wanna-be. When da MAN Heff does it, he has smokin hot girls. This wanna-be has "heffers". There can be only one… Long live Heff.

  79. 79

I don't think there is anything sick or creepy about this family. Everyone knows marriage takes alot of work and this family is working extra hard to make their lifestyle work. It is very ignorant to say this choice is about sex when so many men sleep with woman after woman making babies and then abandoning them. Imagine how organized you would have to be to keep up with 4 wives and 16 kids. As for the women, I think it is a worthwhile tradeoff to share your husband when you have 3 other women to help with cooking, cleaning, working and raising kids. Seems like a sweet deal to me and I am female.

  80. 80

so polygamy is "creepy," but my section 8 neighbor who has two daughters (14 & 16) are pregnant and her 10 year old boy threatens to kill the neighbors and has broken into many houses in the neighborhood is "normal." her family (if you want to call it that) is fine and dandy, but this mormon family are to be broke up? really? get a grip america… traditional families are not working. time to progress!
