TLC Stands By Their Ratings! No Plans To Pull Sister Wives!

| Filed under: Legal MattersReality TV

Even if the whole family gets tossed in jail!

TLC's band of bigamy show, Sister Wives, has stirred up a lot of conversation and controversy, the biggest of which is an extensive investigation against Kody Brown and his four wives. Should he and his ladies be found guilty of practicing polygamy (and we don't see how they couldn't be), the lot of them will be thrown in jail.

But don't worry, the kids show will be alright! TLC has pledged to continue to run the program, even if the family is arrested. Good to note that should they be found guilty, the sentence can be as high as five years!

Now, in all seriousness, who's going to watch those 13 kids if they all go to prison? It's them we're really concerned about!

mario - the only thing you're concerned about is yourself………

  2. 2

Yea MARIO condemn someones way of life yet ask people to accept yours , way to go Asswipe.

  3. 3

Actually, it's NONE of them that I'm concerned about.
Who watches the TLC channel, anyway?

  4. 4

They're not going to jail…. The only reason why they're doing the "investigation" is because people are so upset about it. The only way that they will prosecute is if they find other reasons like underage marriage, abuse, or welfare scamming. He's only married - by law - to one of them and he hasn't tried to legally marry another. Hence, no jail time.

  5. 5

    He should marry Octomom !!!!

If he only has one legal wife wouldn't he practicing polyamory? Where does the polygamy come in? I'm under the impression he didn't have "legal" ceremonies with the others. If the guy wants to live with multiple women in a husband/wife situation more power to him. I have one he can have if he wants another.

Polygamy is only illegal if he has legally married all 4 of them, which I doubt he's done. There's nothing wrong with a man living with and having children with 4 women. It should only be an issue if the women are under 18, someone is being abused, or they're scamming the welfare system.
Why on earth would the state of Utah waste their time prosecuting a man who is living with 4 women, who are consenting adults, when there are polygamists out there that are marrying and raping children? I find it appalling that they would take a man away from his family - he's a loving father and husband, and he provides for them. If the state locks him up, what will his wives do? Probably be forced to collect welfare, and who does that benefit? No one.
It's despicable that Mario is judging these people, when he preaches that "love is love". I watched the show today, and they're clearly loving people who simply live a different lifestyle. Leave them alone, Mario.

Are the 3 extra wives and their children receiving government assistance? Usually, that is the case. They see nothing wrong in gaming the system for their personal benefit. The man cannot afford the "lifestyle" and the of us pick up the tab.

Re: Serena Loves Mario – It would be interesting to know if any of his 'wives' are collecting welfare now. It is common practice among these multi-wife families to have the ones who are legally not married to claim welfare as single mothers.

  10. 10

Perez, they would be fostered, wards of the state and guess who pays for that, too…

Re: Serena Loves Mario – He's only legally married to the first wife. The issue is that the husband is having children with other women…all of whom live under one roof. Those additional relationships are considered common law marriages.
You KNOW Utah is only going after them because of the show. If Utah ignores the fact that this family has "outed" themselves on national TV, they might as well make polygamy legal.
I think it's their choice to live that way. Not my cup of tea, but whatevs…

BTW, Perez…bigamy is entering into multiple marriages WITHOUT the other spouses knowing. The dude's not a bigamist.

If he is only married to one of them legally. How is it unlawful polygyny? As long as the family isn't abusing welfare, and all the spiritual wives are consenting and above legal age - Leave them alone.

  13. 13

Who cares, they are consenting adults and their home appears to be more loving than most. Anyway, those kids get more adult attention/guidance than the Duggards and their 19 kids. Besides if they are not legally married what can the state do? I am sure the family and TLC looked into all of this and they have made arrangements for a legal battle. Clearly if you watched the show they are intelligent!

Perez, you should be more accepting. Really you should be less judgmental in general. I look forward to the day you are 30. Oh wait, are you 30? Isn't that when you start calling everyone old and useless? My dear, I hope you look in the mirror someday and grow a bit of a heart. Or even a reality check would be a good place to start.

This whole story is a SCAM! The guy is only legally married to one of the women. The other wives are only spiritually married - which, of course, is not illegal in any state. But way to be brave about standing behind this show, TLC since no one is getting arrested. EVER!

  15. 15

i really don't get how they could be prosecuted. he's only legally married to one woman. the rest call themselves "wives" but they're really just live-in girlfriends. it's an open relationship disguised as a religious belief. whatever you call it — who cares.

as long as he is only legally married to one, the government should GFO. bigamy/polygomy laws exist to protect women and children of men who try & deceive one wife or marry another without getting legally divorced. these people are happy. kids are happy. butt out.

  16. 16

I by no means support plural marriage, but it seem ridiculous that a man can be married and cheat on his wife with plenty of women and even get them pregnant and that is perfectly legal, but these people can't create a perfectly happy family in a manner that is much less vile.

  17. 17

They all look so happy in this photo! What a trip…..

  18. 18

I have the show on my DVR but haven't watched it yet. What do these ppl do for a living? Does any of them work? Who pays the bills and feeds all those kids? I don't understand how they could charge them with anything criminal, he's only married to one of them. It's like he has 3 mistresses. All the politicians have that many mistresses too.

  19. 19

Blah blah blah Perez the hypocrite. If this same story involved a bunch of gays or lesbians you'd be complaining that there's nothing wrong and that they should be left alone.

Re: buggadaboo – He works (not sure what job he has, but can tell he does well) and 2 of his wives also work. They mentioned how expensive it is to raise so many children, so they are definitely doing it on their own, not relying on welfare.
