You know there's something wrong when THREE people quit on you at once!

Captains Jonathan & Andy Hillstrand, and Captain Sig Hansen have left Deadliest Catch.

The Hillstrands were sued by Discovery for $3 million earlier this month due to their alleged lack of participation in a planned spin-off special for Deadliest Catch, called Hillstranded.

Captain Hansen quit as a show of solidarity for his fellow captains. Here's what he had to say about it:

"I want people to know the captains stand together, and me and my brothers support them 100 percent."

Here is a statement from the Hillstrands and Hansen regarding their departure:

"We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in 'Deadliest Catch. It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive 'Catch' fans we have met over the years."

Here's what the Hillstrands' lawyer, Jeff Cohen, had to say about the Captains' exit:

"We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for the captains. I think MaryAnne from Minnesota put it best when she wrote to us: 'The show was meant to shed light on a profession these men so valiantly and tirelessly do season after season, not bankrupt them and take away their livelihood.'"

Not the smartest move, Discovery! Do U think MTV would file a lawsuit against the cast of Jersey Shore? Would CBS go head-to-head with the Big Bang stars?

Not smart AT all!

if they signed a contract to do a show and didn't do it, I would imagine the station has a right to sue. if the jersey std's signed a contract and didn't show up for filiming, yes, I 'd imagine MTV would sue them….same for this big brother or whatever it is………….by signing a contract and not showing up, your causing the station a financial loss………

Ummmm, Stupid….if there's a contract, and it is violated, CBS, NBC, MTV, VH1 or anyone else WOULD SUE!!.

Once again, egos supercede obligation and committment.

Sig Hansen and his family are some of the classiest people I know… his wife is seriously the sweetest person ever and you'd never know she has a "famous" husband. Discovery probably tried to pull some shit on them that wasn't initially agreed upon so it doesn't surprise me that they quit. It's not like they don't have another income source to fall back on.

It's business and they are grown men who signed a contract. If the negative press ontinues I wouldn't be surprised if Discovery and the captains settle.

Wow, Perez, you did another about face on this one…… I have a feeling there's way more behind this one that the Hillstrand's atty is holding onto… It's no secret that the Hillstrand's enjoy the limelight a little bit, so for them to not finish production at the point of just needing voice-overs lead me to believe that something's not pure in the milk and it's probably not money as that would have been hammered out up front, as it's no secret that none of the boats make money from the show itself (they make it as a result of through merch, endorsements, etc, but not from the actual show).

if you google anything MARIO, you will find that the DISCOVERY CHANNEL had spent over 2 weeks doing extensive photography for this 'special'. I don't know how much more, but they, the discovery channel claimed they only needed interviews from the Hillstrand brothers to complete the special. They tried over and over to contact them and finally the HB lawyer sent an e-mail saying TDC should stop trying to contact them. Discovery had already spent a large sum of money on the SPECIAL, cleared a spot for it(don't care about that), the Hillstand signed a contract (THAT, is important) and WOULD LIKE THEIR WORK COMPLETED. The Hillstrand Bros. claim that it has been a very bad year, esp. with Phil Harris dying. Capt. Hansen WAS VERY EFFECT by Phil dying, BUT LIFE GOES ON. I think it is a bunch of CRAP, USING PHIL'S DEATH AS AN EXCUSE. life and death is a fact in that job. PH, he KNEW he did not have long to go. Okay, it is up to them if they have the discovery crew on board, and you know what? THERE ARE OTHER BOATS, HB PERSONALITIES HAD MUCH TO BE DESIRED. and the discovery channel has done 'other types of fishing'

and like APRIL 20th said, YES, CBS, MTV, all the NETWORKS WOULD SUE if someone SIGNED A CONTRACT , half the work was done, especially if the filming was done in the Bering Strait (I am not sure if that was the location, honestly), than the person UNDER CONTRACT SAID, NEVER MIND, I DON'T WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE. Someone I was close too died back in January. I think the Discovery channel just wants them to complete the work and to show others that IF YOU SIGN A CONTRACT, you have to honor it. LEGALLY and Morally.

There deff, has to be somehting else that no one knows about, because there would be no reason for the hillstrand brother to refuse to work with discovery if they already had most of the work done and just needed an interview and some other stuff. discovery is ovbs. not selling the true story, and why would they? there a billion dollar empire that could pretty much do what they want. all i know is that they will no even have a quarter of the viewwers now that these guys are gone. they were the starts of the show besides phil (RIP). so discovery better pull there shit together if they want to continue making money from this show.

GET YOUR STICKS OUT OF YOUR BUTTS DISCOVERY!! THEY WERE THE ONLY REASON I WAS GOING TO CONTINUE WATCHING THIS SHOW AFTER PHIL DIED!! Yes i'm aware that networks have a right to sue over violation of contract but this is crazy. These people despite how much money they make, dont have that much. But really, just because they changed their minds is too stupid to sue. COME BACK GUYS!! YOU WERE FUNNY!!! PLEASE DONT LEAVE!!

Sad to hear that these folks are leaving. The show gives you a great appreciation for rewards of hard work and being a family. There's no Hollywood here for these guys….just honesty and integrity. All the best Cpts Sig and Jonathan and Andy.
