Chris Brown Ripped Off Calvin Harris!

| Filed under: Music MinuteChris BrownCalvin Harris

We're not surprised. We don't think there is any low that Chris Brown isn't willing to stoop to, whether it be beating down or stealing a beat!

Yesterday, Calvin Harris was dumbfounded after he caught a listen to Brown's newest single Yeah 3x. Tweeting that he "chocked on my cornflakes", Calvin insisted that Chris stole his beat from his #1 single, I'm Not Alone.

Pretty heavy accusation. Fortunately, there is proof!

Check out the comparison video above and give it a good listen. You can hear exactly where Calvin is coming from! Effing biter! Come up with your own shiz, Beat-Her-Down!

Do U think they sound similar or not at all?

  1. 1

Not to stand up for Chris, but whos to say this dude didn't just record this after hearing Chris' song??

  2. 2

First of all Calvin Harris is awesome! Fuck Chris Brown. He's a biter is right.

  3. 3

He didn't steal anything. He didn't produce the beat. He only wrote the song so calvin can't take actions against him. Also thi song is techno and probably sounds like alot of things.

  4. 4

ya and? you do realize like 8 dance songs will have the same beat right? you make it sound like Chris is the only person to do something like this. grow up.
who is this guy anyways?….hes probably just bitter cause in the in, Brown's song actually sounds good.

  5. 5

Calvin who? And I doubt Chris Brown made any of his own music or has ever heard of this Calvin guy.

  6. 6

    What a thief…

  7. 7

    yeeeeeah they sound similar

  8. SaraT says – reply to this

    8

yes!!!!!!!! omg when I first heard chris brown new song, I was like !?!? that sounds like some other song but I couldn't put a finger on it!

  9. 9

Calvin Harris is awesome! Don't you dare steal from him Beat-her-down!

  10. 10

    sheeeeet. dude stole his janx!

  11. 11

    Dude, that's crazy similiar

  12. tasha says – reply to this

    12

Yeah, he ripped it. Either way both versions suck. Same crap that is all over radio.

  13. 13

it sounds the same, but i've heard this tune a thousand times before in other songs so they stole it both i guess

  14. 14

Wooowww, exactly the same, and Calvin harris made "im not alone," what? a year ago

  15. MiSs says – reply to this

    15

Re: #Cejers – the fact that his song came out a yr and a half ago before BEATHERDOWNS!

Re: #Cejers – the fact that his song came out a yr and a half ago before BEATHERDOWNS!

  17. 17

calvin's song is from 2 years ago!! i dont think its chris' fault but whoever produced it…either way chris should reach out to calvin…thats ridiculous!

  18. 18

    its the same song!

  19. 19

Re: #Cejers – maybe because I've already had Calvin Harris' album with this song for 2 years now?

  20. 20

I actually love that song by Calvin Harris. I've listened to it many times on Pandora. It's obvious that CB's song was 'inspired' by it, however while the same synth sound is used, the actual notes differ. Also, I doubt Brown actually had anything to do with it. Blame the producer.

  21. 21

Calvin Harris is a genius…Chris Brown is shite. Plain and simple
His song also sounds like TV ROCK's "In the Air"

  22. 22

Oh how interesting, isn't this the same song Mario said was so amazing and was willing to forgive the woman beater over? God he flip flops more than a fish out of water.

  23. 23

First off, I think Chris Brown is a total scumbag, but I'm sure that the producer ripped off the track and Chris just recorded on it not knowing that it belonged to someone else. I might be mistaken, but it's not like Chris writes his own material or produces his own beats, right? Either way, this is nothing new, but it doesn't make it right. Stealing is stealing, and it's wrong.

  24. 24

who cares? they're two differnet artists in different genres. and honestly, DJ got us falling in love, California gurls, and Dynamite pretty much ahve the same beat.

  25. 25

Oh f off Perez, you know how many beats Katy Perry, Jason Derulo,Rihanna etc have taken? like who gives an F. As long as he gets permission then it's all good…. the song hasnt even been released on itunes for f sakes.

Singers do this all the time… and stop calling him beat-her-down acting like a damn 11 year old. No wonder no one comes on your site anymore

  26. 26

yea they sound a like but that happens all the time. you can't place the blame just on brown.

  27. 27

I guarantee you Chris Brown has never even heard of this dude. Sure, there are slight similarities, just like Katy Perry's California Gurls is similiar to Ke$ha's Tik Tok, but it happens. Besides, all of that Euro-dance pop stuff starts to sound the same to me after a while anyway.

  28. 28

OK so no shit Chris Brown recorded the song, but was he the one that produced it as well?? I never knew that little bitch produced music!!

  29. 29

    JOCKKERRRRRR.

  30. 30

The producer of a song picks the beats. You should be writing this about the producer, not Chris.

  31. 31

pretty much every song steals from dance beats now adays.. and mainstream makes fun of techno music.. haha look what you're listening to. all these beats from pitbull, britney spears, rihanna, everyoneee all the main beats in the songs, were original songs from 5, 6 years ago… nothing new here.

  32. 32

    Not Chris.

    Producers.

He sings the stuff to the beats they sell.

  33. rsrs says – reply to this

    33

I'VE HEARD AT LEAST 4 OTHER DANCE OR TRANCE SONGS WITH THIS SAME BEAT. ITS A UNIVERSAL BEAT FOR A BACKGROUND FOR A LOT OF DANCE/TRANCE SONGS. ITS NOT A BIG DEAL SERIOUSLY. NOT TO DEFEND CHRIS BUT IM SURE THERES PRODUCERS BEHIND EVERY SONG AND HE PROBABLY DIDNT MAKE THIS BEAT.

  34. 34

Re: #Cejers – this "dude" is Calvin Harris a genius. People have been listening to his track for over a year now. What a ripoff

  35. 35

Katy Perry's song has the same beat. Should she get sued as well? It's not like it's the same lyrics. If he sues he'll lose. Lil Jon's Let's Go song used the same beat as Ozzy Osbourne Crazy Train and there were no lawsuits.

  36. 36

I can't stand Chris Brown and will say the two songs sound nothing alike - this Calvin Harris (who the fuck is he and that song of his is god awful) is retarded.

Both Chris Brown and this god awful Chris Harris are retarded.

  37. 37

If any of you tard-mongers had any skills at all you'd realize that Calvin Harris came out with his album MONTHS ago, and this was his first single from the album. Chris Brown totally ripped off his beat.

  38. 38

effing hell next hell be marrying gwneyth paltrow

    what a total ripoff

  39. 39

I hear that beat all the time on dance music and remixes, they both stole it just like hundreds of others probably have.

  40. 40

Who care's, Calvins song sucks anyway and I've heard that beat in tons of different songs!

  41. 41

they both sound like tweeker dance song of the 90's. both guilty of bad music with out an ounce of originality.

  42. 42

Definitely stolen, I am sure not by Beater Brown though, he is not smart enough to do that.

  43. 43

who the fuck is calvin harris? lol

  44. 44

I absolutely LOVE Calvin Harris! My favorite song of his is "Merrymaking At My Place." But the beat is a typical techno beat. I hear that beat all the time in the clubs. No one "owns" that beat. I'm not a fan of CB but CH definitely cannot claim that CB copied him.

  45. 45

Chris Brown = BITER.. this is calvin harris' original work.. and to have it sample without no credit would've pissed me off! I mean. not that we get that much spotlight anyway in the dance community.. but this is just ridiculous.. I think chris' record company owes CALVIN HARRIS A HUGE CHECK. Nuff said… :)

  46. 46

dude. that IS calvin harris' beat. this song has been out for ages, people saying its the other way around, educate yourself in music before taking a side. he should sue chris' ass, but he's probably too above that. shame

  47. 47

Chris Didn't produce the beat…. And i like Chris better.

  48. 48

i like the calvin harris better. his voice actually goes better with the beat.

  49. 49

Because Calvin Harris wrote this song about 1-2 years ago…great original beat, Chris is kind of a moron for stealing it…maybe they thought nobody would notice…

  50. 50

I KNEW I heard that beat somewhere when I first heard that Chris Brown track. Seriously, you gotta be fucking kidding me, I hope he sues the shit out of his stealing ass, stealing tracks from people infinitely more talented than he'll ever be.

  51. 51

I Effing Love calvin harris, such a cutie.. chris brown can suck and suck it hard.

  52. 52

Not only did he rip off Calvin Harris, he did it real bad!

  53. 53

Re: jerkstore – you don't know who calvin harris is? clearly you've been living under a rock..

  54. 54

and Lady GaGa's "Alejandro" is a 110% rip off of Ace of Base's "Don't Turn Around".

and yet, I don't see you talking bad about that tranny.

  55. 55

Yes,definitely Chtis Beat Her Down stole this from Calvin.I say Calvin, sue his ass big time!!!!

  56. 56

What a loser you are Perez, remember just a few days ago when you were ranting about how great Chris is? Could you make up your mind already? Btw, Chris Brown sucks and will forever suck, just like anyone who's ever layed a hand on another human being, be it woman, child or man.

  57. 57

Re: #Cejers – no he released this song in britain a back in 2009 like spring time

  58. 58

For those who don't know him he's big in Britain because he Scotttish and based there. He's worked with big names and been really successful here, so to think you would get away unnoticed for ripping off his work is a bit of a joke.

  59. 59

Re: #Cejers – you're so stupid, this calvin harris song has been around for years, chris brown's single just came out

  60. 60

to all the dumb techno haters, all techno DOESNT sound the same and CALVIN HARRIS DOES create his own beats and his music IS copywritten and if perez says that calvin harris was shocked after listening to it i hope to GOD that he does in fact press charges. CALVIN HARRIS IS A LEGEND AND THAT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS HE RIPPED OFF. SHAME ON HIM!

  61. 61

Chris Brown's track does sound a lot like Calvin Harris's track of over a year ago. But hey, Harris's track was hardly original and I think he'd have problems claiming he originated what is a fairly generic 'Ibiza' sound that's been around for years.

  62. 62

to you americans: this song is over a year old&it was a massive hit in Europe; Calvin came up with this bit&if Brown wanted it he should have asked for permission and he should have PAYED Calvin!! I'm sure he will now!! Calvin better take him to court!!!

  63. 63

Calvin had this song out 2 years ago, which he wrote an produced! Who gives a fuck if none of u brown fans hav heard of calvin fact is its still stealing! Calvin is a legend :)

  64. 64

I knew I'd heard the beat somewhere before.

  65. 65

Calvin Harris really shouldn't have started this, lol! First of all, Chris Brown's new song is HOT! DJ Frank E produced it, not Chris. So all the angry people complaining about him stealing a beat, chill out. The kid wrote the song and sang it, he didn't produce it.

And while people are getting mad about dance beats sounding the same…umm, hello! Shall we look to the majority of dance music? LOL

And Calvin Harris can officially STFU trying to start drama complaining about his "original" beat. Has anyone heard Jon O'Bir's "I Need You" done a year before Calvin's song? Yeah… ask Harris why HE'S NOT going to sue a damn thing, lol!

Like Chris sings: "If they mad and they don't want to party, tell them STFU!" Yeah 3X rocks!

  66. 66

    Re: #Cejers

Silly Silly Americans……. Calvin Harris has been a pioneer of electro house, funk, 2 step, for years across the world. And before you knock this comment, you should look into the Miami Sound Convention. Its one of your biggest music gatherings annually.

His Track is from 2008, so there is quite a likeness.

Chris Brown just doing what "most" Urban Artists are doing….. making that cross over into the Commerical Dance Scene. Simple as that.

  67. 67

Chris Brown has way too much talent to steal anything from anyone. I don't know who Calvin is but don't like the fact that he's generated so much hate. I don't like him because of his finger pointing and the negativity he's caused. I admire Chris Brown for being a positive individual who is genuine and obviously talented. Chris has such a genuine smile and a wonderful personality for such a young adult going through such stupidity that all you hateful followers are dishing out. Live and let learn and wish others well instead of hating so much. I wish Chris Brown much continued success because he truly deserves it and he'll always be my favorite artist. I Love You Chris Brown :) Don't hear, see, or speak the way these haters do and keep pushing forward. I'm on your side CB :)

  68. 68

Re: Amyrosie – You're the thief!

  69. infms says – reply to this

    69

Ok, first off this is an exact copy of Calvin Harris.

@jerkstore: just because YOU haven't heard of Calvin doesn't mean no one has. Hes quite big in the dance scene.

@juju14: Its not TECHNO, its PROGESSIVE, there is a big difference but I don't expect you to understand the difference seeing as MTV hasn't told you yet.

@Princesa11: Clearly Brown or his producers didnt get Calvins permission to copy the track. You would be pissed off too.

@scalliwag: Its an almost exact copy. Same synth and almost same progression of notes with a small tweek from Browns producers end.

@lacey1: you gaurantee Chris never heard of Calvin? Interesting, so you're good friends with Chris Brown and have talked to him about it? Idiot

@rsrs: Of course they have the same beat…its called 4 on the floor or 4/4 timing. All EDM tracks have that. Its the synths and note progression that makes a track unique. Clearly Brown or his producers copied it from Calvin.

  70. 70

Oh. He's in deep shit. How the hell is he going to explain this.

  71. 71

I'm an amreican, but I feel embarrassed when I read some stupid shit when people would say. Who's this guy? or, who knows maybe he recorded it after listening to Chris' song? OMG HOW STUPID PEOPLE CAN BE?

  72. 72

Re: bazzuk – I agree this song was huge in 2009
Calvin Harris sings, writes and producees. Chris is a muppet

  73. 73

You can blame David Guetta. Purveyor of some of the worst drivel this summer, biggest DJ in the world right now and clearly has some memory loss over where he gets his 'inspiration' from.
And don't doubt it, Calvin Harris is a huge talent in his own right.

  74. 74

erm, since when does chris brown write beats?

  75. Alya says – reply to this

    75

Calvin Harris' music is great and what's his is his! It's a matter of taste wether you like dance music or hip-hop/dance/pop mixed (i dont even know how to call it) music. And who recorded it first? Of course Calvin! I don't see Chris Brown being a pioneer in dance music :) )))

  76. 76

once again Chris Brown has proved to be an asshole

  77. 77

PEREZ you didn't have to start this negativity. It's down right cruel and ugly and shows how many followers (negative people who can't think for themselves and go by what you put out) are out there. We are in dire need of leaders and your article as well as other negative articles are causing bad energy in this world. Give credit where it's due and you know darn well Chris Brown has been through a hell of alot just like you and I have. Give him a break already. I can't say how dissappointed I am with you and society. So much for praying for world peace when I have to live surrounded by individuals like these…. It's pretty scary and does not have to be this way. Negativity causes more hate. A little positive attitude goes a very long way too. Much love to us all. We need it because we're all burning due to lack of our own leadership! Chris Brown is really a good kid. I truly stand on his side.

  78. 78

It does sound like Calvins song, but lets be honest what dance song doesn't have similarities? Its also produced by David Gueta, so is Chris really to blame for using a few same chords????

  79. 79

    thief plain and simple.

  80. 80

Remember its techno, there's only so many different beats possible. And didn't Rihanna steal part of and MJ song and Tainted Love… Madonna with ABBA. It happens!!!!!!!

  81. 81

lol ppl still defend the asshole after what he did lol anyway the song is practically the same beat so yeah Chris u stole it and that's final hahaha

  82. 82

looooool #cejers u d*k .. cos the song was massive a while back.

  83. 83

first off the note are similar but not the same anyone who has a good ear for music can hear. second, who the heck is calvin harris?? a nobody in america! it stinks that the beats are so close but i guarantee Chris's song will continue to get radio play cuz no one cares. besides techno beats have a bad habit of sounding alike cuz i promise i've never even heard of clavin harris and i've never heard the new Chris Brown song and that beat already sounds familiar

  84. 84

and im not alone is x1000 better

  85. 85

Calvin Harris is fucking amazing, and Chris Brown totally stole his beat, sorry but a beat is a beat, fucking loser…

  86. 86

I HATE Chris "beat her down" but ALL TECHNO (or Progressive)SONGS SOUND THE SAME!!!! I can find like 50000 other songs that have the same or similar beat. Besides it was the producer not Chris who came up with beat.

  87. Soes says – reply to this

    87

Perez, you must have recognized this—MADONNA also used it for her Sticky and Sweet version of FROZEN, but at least she gave credit to Calvin Harris!

  88. 88

Its the same song. but thats what these non-talented american singers do now they stell music from creative eur-performers now. its a shame no one in this country is creative anymore.

  89. 89

Re: #Cejers – uhhh because the song is old…?

  90. 90

Re: JC1231 – He's a nobody is America… which means what? People like Groove Armada, Katy Perry, Mika, Shakira and Kaiser Chiefs have all let him do remixes of their songs. Madonna even used his music for her tour. So apparently, he is a 'somebody' to some folk in America. Just because you're not familiar with a particulair scene, doesn't mean a person YOU have never heard of is a nobody…

  91. 91

Weren't you saying how much you liked this last week, asshole?

  92. 92

    Re: SandeePB
I am sorry but this "Chris Brown has been through a hell of a lot", yes I'm sure he has but do you not realize he brought it on himself? His "negativity" that he brought on Rhianna warrants this "hell". He should pay his due. And Calvin Harris is a hard-working artist who deserves credit for his work and ideas. He does not deserve this "negativity". Also to turn around and call someone a thief because you cannot think of a comeback not also "negative"?

  93. 93

Re: ItsBabyBitch – you clearly have no ear for music

  94. 94

Those of who who don't know who Calvin Harris is, you have missed out on some god damn amazing songs. Accecptable in the 80's, I get all the girls, dance with me, to name a few. Oh yeah and of course, I'm not alone. The song which topped the UK charts, the song i saw him perform at T4 on the beach in 2009.

  95. 95

    Calvin Harris is GOD

  96. 96

@#Cejers HELLO THE SONG O CALVIN is LIKE from april of 2009 ! -.-'

  97. 97

That sounds like Calvin Harris, alright, but way more like "You Used to Hold Me" from 55 seconds to about 1:05 seconds. I mean, it's like the exact same beat from that song. I couldn't hear as much of a similarity in these two songs, and "You Used to Hold Me" and "I'm Not Alone" don't exactly sound 100% alike..

  98. 98

Rihanna must pay all your bills, Perez. Ozzy gets called Ozzy. Charlie gets called Charlie, but the young guy who never had a record gets called "Beat Her Down."

  99. 99

    Re: hi1234

Who the fuck is Calvin Harris?!

  100. 100

    Re: OhJustPickOne

Some people derserve a beat down! If you attack another person, you deserve to get your ass beat. Maybe next she and others like her would kept their hands to themselves.
