twilight rip off the dark divine by bree despain gets film option

You're not fooling anybody, Bree Tanner Despain. Just because you chose to focus on werewolves instead of vampires in your books, don't think that makes them any less of a Twilight rip-off.

The rip-off Dark Divine book series has been optioned by X-Men producer Ralph Winter and Terry Botwick of 1019 Entertainment.

1019 Exec Whitney Thomas will also produce the first Dark Divine movie.

For those of you who give a shit, the story is about a 16-year-old pastor's daughter who falls in love with a boy, who happens to be a vampire werewolf.

We'll def be skipping these movies.

Will U give the Dark Divine series a try?

oh please, twilight isnt orginal. the only thing close to orginal is the fact that she made her vamps sparkle…which lets face it…is just stupid.
i can go to my bookstore and find 100's of books that are just like twilight, only they came out BEFORE the twilight mess.

  2. 2

Yeah, because before twilight there were no other stories about a teenage girl falling in love with someone who's a vampire/werewolf. Yeah. Twilight totally invented that kind of storyline.
    COUGH

  3. 3

Because nobody wrote about werewolves and vampires before Twilight right???? Dumbass.

  4. 4

did taylor swift give the okay to use her stilts and cloghoppers?

  5. 5

Ughhh if any Vampire/Supernatural series of books needs to be made in to a movie/tv show it is Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Black Series. It predates all these kiddie books and tv shows and is still going strong. Vampires, Wolves, Zombies, Witches, Nudity, Sex, Bisexuality, it has it all!

  6. 6

Do you have any idea how many damn vampire/werewolf books there are?
    Especially with the romance?

Twilight is a horrible series and is poorly written.
I'm willing to bet these books actually have some plot.
Twilight is pretty much the same shit but the main character switches guys in the books. And the 4th book is unnecessary.

I doubt this Divine series is going to be any good.
But just because you find some similarity between it doesn't make it a rip off.

Shall I make a list of how many stories Stephanie Myer has ripped off? Twlight isn't all that original either, she took vampires and made them wimpy. I used to love vamps but she took vampires, made them into complete wimps and started a trend.

  8. 8

I bet its going to be awesome :p

  9. 9

Perez, you do realize the Twilight is a rip off of almost every other vampire book released before it?

  10. 10

EXACTLY! S.Meyers just ripped off A LOT of other people's books. NOTHING about her books is Original. I've read other vampire stories that have come out in the 70's,90's and I can clearly see the things she took an put in her book. She just took different things from different books and voila the Twilight Series

  11. 11

And BUFFY was about a GIRL that fell in love with a VAMPIRE. I guess Joss Whedon should sue whatsherface that wrote Twilight?

  12. 12

Re: swtmissy – @ 5 - those books are great, aren't they?!?! I'm only on 2 but my friend is on like book 19 or something……

  13. 13

Love you Perez, but honestly….whatevs….love Twilight too but its such a rip off of all the Sookie Stackhouse books, which I'm sure are a rip off to some degree of some other books…..

  14. 14

I loved this book! It isn't a rip-off, it's actually a paranormal twist on the Parable of the Prodigal Son as in "What happens to us when we can't forgive? THAT I think is a tragically relevant storyline.

  15. 15

how can you rip-off the mother of all rip-offs?

  16. 16

Nothing is a rip-off, because nothing is original.

  17. 17

This book is brilliant! Not another Twilight spin-off. Bree did an AMAZING job creating the world within TDD. BEFORE you talk trash about it, maybe you should read it.
And for all those who say all YA novels are just wannabe Twilight, you obviously haven't read any books in the genre. Do some research first, then let's talk.

Way to go, Bree! We love you!!!

  18. 18

Twilight isn't original, yes I like twilight but there were several other vampire books out before twilight. The dark divine was actually good. It's so different from twilight. Before judging why don't you get your facts straight!

  19. 19

Just because is it written by a Mormon and has a love triangle, doesn't make it Twilight. Honestly, P, I read this book. It has to do with supernatural/paranormal romance, but not all young adult paranormal romance is Twilight. It can stand on its own in a post-Twilight world. At least read the book first before bashing it.

  20. 20

Dude, this post is so lame. THE DARK DIVINE is a fantastic book. One of the best I've read all year. Totally not a rip-off! That's like saying Star Wars is a rip off up Buck Rogers because they both take place in space and have robots.

Seriously, if you like Twilight, then you'll love THE DARK DIVINE, but if you hated Twilight, you'll probably still love this book. Great writing, great characters, great plot.

There are plenty of books out there with a "girl falls in love with a guy who is a monster" plot line. That's because it's a FREAKING genre! It's called paranormal romance, and it's been around for hundreds of years. Just because Twilight was the first one you've ever heard of, doesn't mean every other book in that genre is a rip off. It just means it's another option for readers who enjoy Paranormal Romance.

Try reading something first before you rip it apart!

Oh, and I'm SO sure Bree's parents named her "Bree" however many decades ago she was born just so she could capitalize on the Bree Tanner book. Especially since her book was published BEFORE the Bree Tanner book was ever even announced.

Go, Bree! I hope tons more people read your book now after the free publicity from Perez!!

  21. 21

WTF are you TALKING about, Mario? Twilight is the worst rip-off, piece of crap book of about 1,000 other books in the genre I've ever even HEARD of. You can't RIP OFF Twilight, it's like saying you're ripping off some generic brand of toothpaste. Totally ridiculous.

  22. 22

Re: moonstrucksami – Now now, you can't ACTUALLY be a member of this site and NOT expect Mario to leap to an unnecessary negative opinion before even taking a glance.

  23. 23

I think the cover would have looked great with wolf feet a la Diamond Dogs. Painted nails, too!

  24. 24

    I will

  25. 25

If you've read this book, you'd know that it's more about the mysterious murders that start happening after said werewolf-boy returns to town after an absence of three years.

  26. 26

Hello The Vampire Diaries came out during like the 80's and you claimed they ripped off Twilight. I have actually read The Dark Divine and Twilight, they are not even close to being similar. I recommend you read this book its not even very long, it would take you an hour on your I-Pad Perez, try to investigate stuff before you just report on it, BTW Oh No They Didn't reports everything like days a head of you.

  27. 27

Re: Katalyst – Haha! Good point.

  28. 28

A Twilight rip off? LMAO! Twilight is a rip off within itself. It's not even worth the paper it's printed on. Those poor trees… Twilight is the worst book I've read. This book HAS to be better because you're not getting much worse than Twilight! lol!

  29. 29

Perez, you obviously don't know how long it takes to plot, write and publish a novel. (And we're not talking about Lauren Conrad books here.) Bree Tanner's book was already in the works when Twilight was released in 2005. Novelists spend years writing and revising a novel, often years finding an agent and a publisher, and then once a novel is accepted for publication, it's another year or so before it's released. So the timeline doesn't even work for her being able to rip off Twilight. And, if you read the book, it is nothing like Twilight anyway. Next time read more than a headline.

  30. 30

I wish they would make Shelly Laurenston's Pack Challenge into a movie. Now THAT is one flick I would pay serious dollars to see.

  31. 31

Hello…have you looked at the young adult section lately? There's hundreds of books copying the Twilight series….once the publishing companies see one franchise becoming that big they want to sign a bunch of other books that are similar. It's all about the money….

  32. 32

    Hey I love Twilight,

hell maybe I'll give this book a shot LoL

  33. 33

come on perez! i use to really like you but your starting to get alittle annoying this book is actually really good lol :P

  34. 34

How about actually reading the book before making a comment. Passing judgement on something that you admit to not having read just shows ignorance. It's another perfect example of the jackasses trying to ban Speak (before anyone has a fit, I'm not comparing a werewolf romance to the seriousness of date rape, I'm comparing the fact that judgement is being passed without the books actually being read).

Your website is read by millions and your comments/opinions can carry a lot of weight to some of those that follow you. Bree Despain is a lovely person and, as all writers do, poured her heart and soul into a book that you just classified as a rip off. That statement could potentially turn people away from her writing. Without having opened the book, you aren't qualified to have an opinion on its contents.

  35. 35

I wish the Darkangel trilogy (Meredith Pierce) or the Necromancer trilogy (Garth Nix) was made into a film.

  36. 36

Ok, for one thing, Twilight is the biggest joke on the face of the earth! The "vampires" in Twilight aren't even vampires! Now, Anne Rice, Joss Whedon, and Bram Stoker are people who know something about vampires! Tell me, what kind of dumb ass makes a VAMPIRE sparkle???!! Then again, you would know all about that wouldn't you Perez?! The Dark Divine is nothing close to a rip off. How is it even close at all? All Twilight is, is about a dumb teen who can't choose between bestiality, and necrophilia! The Dark Divine is a great story about how far love will take you, and the things you are willing to do for it, no matter the cost. Unlike Twilight, which focuses on the "brooding" of every damn character! So everyone, don't listen to this "sparkly" loser! The Dark Divine is an awesome book that keeps you wanting to read it over and over! :D

  37. 37

Jesus! Spend the money and hire a professional foot model. Those wonky feet look like something attached to Paris Hilton or worse. Fugly!

  38. 38

Yes, because the Twilight series is so incredibly original!! Noone ever wrote a book about vampires or werewolves before Stephenie Meyer. Don't get me wrong, I love the Twilight series, but there was plenty of this sort of literature before, Twilight is as much of a rip off as this! There are only so many times you can read Twilight, and it is great to get different takes on the genre - Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, Ilona Andrews, Jim Butcher and lots of other authors are well worth reading too!!

  39. 39

twilight kinda copied VAMPIRE DIARIES. it was written like 10 years before edward's sparkly ass came along

  40. Eris says – reply to this

    40

The twilight series is a big ripoff, even by reading Ann Rice's Interview with a vampire, you would find she ripped off a lot of ideas, from drinking blood from animals to child vampires!

  41. 41

Seriously Perez? Twilight is so unoriginal. The only original bit is that the vampires sparkle. Where in any kind lof myth or legend does it mention sparkly vampires? It's ridiculous. Vampires and werewolves have been the basis for many storylines. Try reading the adult vampir/werewolf novels such as "Interview with the Vampire" or "Queen of the Damned" by Anne Rice or the "Anita Blake" series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

  42. 42

Re: Amanda Chenevert – The Twlight series are young adult books, obviously they are not going to compare to Anne Rice's books, that doesn't mean they are worthless though.
