Two Young Lesbians Commit Suicide In Canada.

| Filed under: CanadialandGay Gay GayR.I.P.Sad SadLGBT

This is just too tragic.

The bodies of two young lesbians have been found, after they left their families good-bye phonecalls and went missing about a week ago. It's believed that they purposely overdosed on prescription pills.

Jeanine Blanchette, 21, and Chantal Dube, 17, had been together since February, and although Jeanine's mother Ellen claims that her daughter's sexuality had nothing to do with her death, that she'd been suffering from mental health problems since she was 15.

Ellen is now upset with authorities, whom she believes did not take the investigation seriously, DESPITE finding her daughter's computer with a wiped memory and receipts for hundreds of antipsychotic prescriptions.

She explains:

“I thought they were on top of it. We put complete faith in the police, and that failed. They shook it off like it was an attention-grabber. I wanted them to get moving. I knew if they took the pills they only had umpteen hours to get pumped.”

In a bizarre twist, Ellen, who was frustrated with the police investigation, contacted psychic Sandra Mae Shaw, who located the girls's whereabouts.

She explains:

“I just got this vision in my head of two girls in a field laying beside each other. Of course, it’s very difficult. You don’t want to tell them that their loved one is gone. I said to (Ellen), you just tell police to look in the field close to her home. She’s there. I know she is.”

Their bodies were uncovered in a wooded clearing, near the building that the two women had met in a group-therapy session.

This is so unbelievably tragic. It sounds like both these young women suffered quite a bit from depression, and it breaks our heart that despite their best efforts, they couldn't find the strength in themselves or each other to hold on.

Our thoughts go out to the families and loves ones of both young women. Absolutely devastating.

And to all the young men and women out there who feel sad, confused, and alone - please talk to someone. No matter how hard it gets, things CAN and WILL get better.

This is tragic.. but I don't believe this suicide is because they were lesbians… it seems to me the it was a typical "romeo & juliet" type suicide. Also, just because someone is Gay,BiSexual, Transgender or lesbian and commits suicide doesn't mean THAT is the reason they did it. I find it interesting that the Gay community sometimes hurts there causes more then helping by labeling themselves… just like someone who is straight they could have been depressed about other things going on in their life.

  2. 2

    RIP :(

  3. 3

Not just gay kids get bullied, you should make a voice also for other kids that go through bullying. And all of you who are in charge of this site should stop making fun of celebrities, its just another form of bullying. You're all pathetic and a hypocrite.

  4. 4

First of all, They were not two women. One was just a girl and the other one was a woman, and second of all, if this was a man/woman relationship, you would have commented on their age gap.

That being said, this is tragic and I wish the police would have stepped up their game.

  5. 5

Re: Kasey19 – if they weren't lesbians he wouldn't have commented at all…………

  6. 6

if all you gays want your rights so badly - then when an adult (like this) has a sexual relationship with a minor (like this), it should also be considered statutory rape.

  7. 7

It's a bit ironic that some years ago being gay meant that you were happy and carefree. Nowadays beigng gay means you are depressed and are going to kill yourself.
Oh yeah, and back in those days 1 in 5 happy, carefree people didn't have AIDS…
    Just a thought.

  8. 8

Why mention they're lesbians in your headline? It had nothing to do with their deaths. You too, are an attention grabber. Stop being so hyper-sensitive. it makes you an awful journalist.

  9. 9

Huh? What? "They shook it off like it was an attention-grabber". That doesn't make sense…obviously. "I knew if they took the pills they only had umpteen hours to get pumped.” Umpteen normally means quite a few. This woman doesn't communicate very well. My sympathies to her on the loss of her daughter.

"Two Young Lesbians Commit Suicide In Canada"… Would you post an article that said "Two Young Lesbians Commit Suicide In The United States" and then not include information on where in the U.S. (i.e. San Francisco or a small town in Arkansas)? It's a big country dude. The culture of an area makes a huge difference in the support available in the community. If your goal is to change opinion re: gay abuse, at least be responsible and post all the facts.

  11. 11

Though this story is extremly sad, I find it quite annoying how you've labelled them 'two lesbians'. I'm not exactly sure that's how they would've wanted to be remembered by.

  12. 12

This is BS has nothing to do with these two being lesbos. it ahs to do with the fact they are mentaly disturbed.

  13. 13

Sounds like they had issues. Pleasse stop assuming that all these people took their lives because they identified as gay. How many straight teens kill themselves this week? Perez is a big bag of feces.

  14. 14

    hundreds of antipsychotic prescriptions

Hundred of pills, ok, but not hundreds of antipsychotic prescriptions.

  15. 15

What is sad is in Canada EVERYONE has the right to get married, the rights of the LGBT community is protected in our charter of rights and freedoms.

  16. 16

Re: April 20th – While I consider it eyebrow-raising that a 21 y.o. dated a teenaged minor, statutory rape is defined as sexual relations between an adult and a minor below the age of consent, as determined by the respective jurisdiction. These two had reportedly been together since February, and the younger one was 17 at the time of her death.
This story gives few details–which Canadian province, and town?–but the norm is that even 16 years old is an age of consent.
Perez, this is about a double suicide, and I wouldn't promote the gay angle as the overriding issue here, rather than, say, depression.

What does gay have tyo do with it. It sounds to me like two mentally disturbed women who happened to be gay commited suicide. Why not list the straight teens who commited suicide?! Are they not worthy opf the media attention. You're being a hypocrite Perez!

  18. Bytch says – reply to this

I'm seeing a trend that publicized suicides….lead to more suicides. People need to teach these people how to believe in themselves. Bullying will never stop, and to think it will in the adult world is a lie. It just changes into a different, more subtle approach. People need to deal with disappointment and insecurity like ANYONE has to, whether they are gay or straight, everyone goes through shame they need to overcome THEMSELVES. The age difference in this is tragic, the young girl was obviously taken advantage of, and I would feel the same in a hetero relationship's case as well. Disgusting and criminal.

  19. 19

Of course this doesn't affect meth addict Mario because they are female and he doesn't care about lesbos….

  20. 20

I'm from a town 10 mins away from Orangeville (where these girls supposedly killed themselves) and though I didn't know them and obviously don't know everything about the situation, I can agree with the poster below me that this had less to do with the fact they were lesbians. Orangeville (and surrounding area) is a really boring town. I ran away from home with a girl when I was 15 too. (No, we weren't lesbians) And I attended crisis meetings at the Child Youth Services building where these girls met, and where their bodies were found behind (no I didn't kill myself). I dabbled in drugs (not anti psychotic pills but drugs nonetheless) … and now a few years later I am fine. I think these were just two very sad, depressed girls… Suicide is not the way to go, whether you are a girl or boy, gay or straight, young or old. It's a dumb decision, it won't give you the attention you need, and worst of all its a permanent decision you can never take back. Suicide is dumb and people need to stop being so stupid.

  21. 21

Re: Kasey19 – Ok, first of all, they were from Québec and the legal age here is 18. So a 21 y/o dating a 17 y/o is not criminal. Or wrong at all.

  22. 22

its not so crazy that a psychic was hired … alison dubois helped determine that tori stafford , a little girl who went missing frm a town not far from orangeville - was dead and she managed to accurately pinpoint the location of her body . p.s. did you even take gr 5 english? the 5 w's of ”journalism" (even tho what youre doing is hardly that) are missing from ur article.

  23. 23

HATE IS WELL AND ALIVE! Just check Perez Hilton comments. Jeezus jebebus!

  24. 24

Why even mention their sexual orientation?? They took their life because they were depressed. The family says that they do not believe their sexuality has anything to do with their deaths.

Not all homosexuals who decide to end their life do it because of their sexual orientation. It it is a global issue. If you want equality, start treating everyone as equals and stop singling people out.

  25. 25

Thought you were going to stop reporting on these?

  26. 26

    A few thoughts.
Any chance these two were readers of this blog? Any chance they've seen the recent stories of other gays doing the unthinkable? Any chance they might not have had the notion to do this had Perez not sensationalized these acts? Does it seem Perez may be perpetuating a sick fad by constantly reporting these acts?
    Maybe he should lay off.

  27. 27

Ummm, I live in Canada and I haven't heard about this, I looked in all the major papers and nothing comes up. Plus this is a pretty vague story when it comes to important information like location. It just doesn't add up

  28. 28

Re: April 20th – Which also sucks. Suicide is tragic no matter what. :(

  29. 29

God this is so sick. I can't imagine how awful these young people must feel especially when a segment of society berates them and makes them feel less than human. I truly believe that God will not take kindly to people who spew such hatred as they hide behind his name.

    RIP girls.

  30. 30

Re: JuicyMe – THERE ARE STILL FOUR YEARS BETWEEN THEM, which is why I commented on the age gap rather than the fact one of them was still a teenager… four years at their ages is a loooong time.

  31. 31

It's sad that you look at them as two young lesbians and not just two young children. Perhaps they killed themselves because they didn't want people looking at them differently…..like you apparently do.

  32. 32

Perez, I thought you were not going to mention the names to protect the privacy you liar.

  33. 33

jennystarr, this did happen in Canada, in Orangeville, Ontario.

  34. 34

You are now trying to connect every suicide by a gay or lesbian to thier sexuality. This had nothing to do with being gay. This had to do with depression. Why don't you report about straight teens who commit suicide? Are they less important to you?

  35. 35

Depends on how old you are. When you're 16 and someone is 20, 4 years seems like a lot, but when you're 25 and 29, it's nothing. Do you see what I mean? I feel badly for the families of these two young women and I agree that constantly publicizing negative things creates even more negativity. That goes for our incessant reporting of terrorism and the war on terror…And I agree with other posters. I'm tired of the constant bash of celebrities, especially Perez's bashing of Miley Cyrus.

  36. 36

    Two less deviants - excellent!

  38. 38

"she'd been suffering from mental health problems since she was 15"

Parents take their gay kids in to see PSYCHO-WACKOS and they get DIAGNOSED FOR LIFE CRAZY & INSANE because they are gay….

  39. 39

Perez, will you STOP reporting these tragedies? Trust me: You are going to be singlehandedly responsible for people starting to make fun of these problems and not taking them seriously. Let family and communities take care of their own, why do you have to make a GRANDIOSE production of all that is HOMOSEXUAL! Do you take Adderall? Don't miss a dose! Relax. Why don't you rename this site MARIO-VIN GAYE.COM??? Enough!

  40. 40

Statutory Rape Anyone?? C'mon if this was a male female relationship this wouldn't be going on a damn shame..

  41. 41

i know one of these girls, she used to go to my school… RIP :(

  42. 42

    i'm so sorry.

  43. 43

With all do respect its frusterating and irrelevant to be referring to these two women as "two young lesbiens" or "the gay couple" or whatever other labels I have read in the media recently. That doesn't matter. These were two human beings who have tragically passed away.

I live minutes from where this happened, so this definitely hit home. Both girls clearly had mental issues, that unfortunately were too intense for each to handle. Which is devastating. And I give my sincere condolences to their friends and family. Its so sad how people have to reach a level that suicide is the "best" option. It shouldn't even be an option. I know how it is to feel so low about yourself and feel like its never going to change.

Young adults need to realize things do change, things NEVER stay the same. And there are always more positive options. It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation, where you come, etc many different people deal with these thoughts and feelings everyday. And everyday, every second being on this earth can feel like suffering to some people. People need to find a reason to life itself. And its hard for some to realize that. I hope with further studies with mental health, awareness and support this can be eliminated completely.

Theres ALWAYS a light at the end of the tunnel, and its so sad that these girls never thought or believed that. Really how do you tell someone who is so far in a depression that? I wish there was an easy way.

  44. 44

Shouldn´t you at least take the "get the look" banner off the victims picture???

  45. 45

you know what? i can't take this…..its just too much for me. I feel for bullying of gays and think we should all do something about it including bully any kid at school but to constantly have these articles and videos on every page is over doing it for me. See you.

  46. 46

Re: sarah889 – Hi Sarah, I live in orangeville and i am friends with the family. Noin of us appreciate that you gave out our location of this happening to anyone here. Think before you give out iformation, thank you. We do not need people coming to our town just to find out anythig about these tragity unless they knew ethar of the familys.

  47. 47

Re: JuicyMe – No. In Canada, the age of consent is 16 which means consensual sexual relations are legal as long as the adult does not have "power" over the younger person, such as a teacher.

  48. 48

Re: kitty9 – The true "deviant" is a person who would comment on the deaths of two people this way. Very few others would do such a thing. That makes YOU the deviant–look it up.

  49. 49

you finally realize that its not just gay boys that are killing themsevles?

  50. 50

Re: JasonDiggy – Maybe you should look it up. It means: a person or thing that deviates or departs markedly from the accepted norm.

    I'm not the muff-diver here.

  51. 51

Re: Loveless – Must be a good school. You've hardly spelled a word correctly lol

  52. 52

Re: April 20th – Actually the age of consent in Canada is 16, so no it's not statutory rape.

  53. 53

I am the sister of Chantal…I do not appreciate of the bs most of you are saying. my sister did not have any mental issues what so ever. she was a fun loving girl who lived life to the fullest. I will not allow for her legacy to be known as a lesbian who commited suicide…considering the cause of death is strill un known. Oh and by the way we did not recieve any good bye phone calls from my sister, so get ur facts straight. Chantal was not ashamed to be a lesbian, she was very happy with who she was and will bve dearly missed by everyone. RIP baby girl

  54. 54

sure delete my comment about my loving sister chantal…the world should know the truth about her

  55. 55

Just to clear it up, these girls are from two small communities in Ontario. Don't say anything unless you know what your talking about. These girls do not deserve to be talked about like this, it is not what the article was for. Have some resect. Just learn from their story and if you know them remember them.

  56. 56

Re: kitty9 – who do you think you are? attacking someone's spelling and education along with leaving rude and unnecessary remarks. No one cares to hear your opinion. Its disgusting that everyone is discussing how bullying may have been the root cause of this tragedy and here you are being an ignorant douche bag. So, that person can't spell but you lack apathy and I pity you.

  57. 57

Everybody gets bullied…not just gay kids….

  58. 58

Re: LouiseTwo – Thank you very much but standing up for me with this issue, my spelling isn't usually that bad, i just had to work with a really shitty keyboard at the time, but i do appreciate the thought.

  59. 59

Re: Loveless – Sorry I was just so rattled about that persons ignorant comments lol
