    Joel Burns for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. 2

I saw this yesterday. Cried my eyes out. SO beautiful.

  3. 3

I saw this on tv last night and thought that he was such a strong and brave man for standing up and coming out like he did to everyone like that and revealing the horrors of his growing up. I am so glad that he did not pull the proverbial trigger that day.

This is incredible. I'm from Fort Worth and believe this is truly a turning point. This is HUGE for Fort Worth

Mr. Joel Burns is sooo brave for telling his story. It's great that he did this, there WILL be a young person that see this and it helps them get through this hard time in their lives.

ugh enough of this "it gets better" bullshit. it doesn't. it gets worse. it's all cute and fun when you're young and then it becomes a sad lonely life. your girlfriends get married and have kids. it gets better my ass. it gets good for a few years, then its shit.

  9. 9

What a sexy brave man!! His husband must be very lucky.. :)

  10. 10

What a wonderful person. I love that he gave his contact info. It is easy to say it gets better, but for some kids in a remote little town in nowheresville USA the day to day batterings are too much tro take. Joel Burns number + the Trevor Profect will at least be able to be reached by anyone with a telephone or the InterNet. PLUS awareness and intolerance of bullying.

  11. 11

so powerful. i can't stop watching. every gay teen needs to watch this.

Okay, wow def just balled my eyes out .. This is so touching, and so powerful. I am not gay, and i can't imagine how rough it is. But i understand so much more now with all of this awareness going around and being in the news. I will do the best of my ability to always be kind and never judge, i have a son who is 2 and i hope to teach him to accept everyone and embraces peoples uniqueness because if we were all the same, life would be so boring. We need to not judge .. to all of you gays' and lesbians' out there, dont back down .. you are all beautiful people and DESERVE to be here.

I can not believe some of the negative comments. It is people like that, that are the bullies themselves or the parents of those that bully and feel it is OK. For those that say it doesn't get better, well your attitude speaks and with those negative vibes it is not surprising your life isn't getting better, however I take it that it has nothing to do with your sexual preference at all and everything to do with the way you are approaching life in general. Negative breeds negative no matter what way you look at it.
Joel just made me that much more proud to be a Texan!

  16. 16

Bawled like a baby while watching this video. Truly brave of him and I hope that the people of Fort Worth find value in this message and his career in politics isn't hurt by what he shared.

  17. 17

Why do you always focused on just the gay community, Perez? Your a hypocrite! Do you have any clue how many youths, commit suicide a year? It has nothing to do with sexual preference. It has everything to do with acceptance of people, period. You are so lost in your own little world that you fail to realize there is a great big one right in front of you! Get over yourself…it's not about you or you promoting your gay life style on others!!

  18. 18

Amazing video. I watched the entire thing and can't believe this man did this. He should be honored and be extremely proud. The haters can all go to hell.

  19. 19

That was beautifully put Joel. This will definitely help many young and older people who are struggling with bullying due to their sexuality or other reasons. This message will and has probably saved a life and that is what is important. Thank you for telling your story….it was very touching as well as enlightening!

Re: tonybotz – cute and fun when your young???? what the hell are you talking about saying it gets better is about growing up and realizing the people making fun of u are the losers!! its about living threw the hardships as a kid and using those as a tool to grow to be stronger.

  21. 21

LOL i send you an email about this and you post it…good for you.

  22. suuup says – reply to this

Also I wish people would just get it's not a choice to be gay!!!!!!!!! do you really think if they had the choice they would pick to be gay to pick to be bullied or pick to fight to get married? no!!!!!!!! So really its simple theres nothing gay people can do about it so leave them alone! what if you woke up one day and started having feeling for the same sex woul;d you want to be treated as they are would you want to be told no you cant marry someone

    How about Aspringers syndrom?

  27. 27

Aw I cried. Good for him for being honest and speaking about his experience. Hopefully it will help anyone who feels it will not get better, bc it will. Good for him. I wanted to reach through the computer and hug him. *hugs*

  28. 28

Re: WhoCares123 – completly agree! not just gays. its race, and from just being "different" etc..

  29. 29

Wow. I literally have no words. That was awe inspiring. What a great BRAVE BRAVE BRAVE man! The world needs more people like this.

  30. 30

Oh man. I cried during that so much. How can anyone watch that and not understand exactly that this gay bullying or bullying in general is a HUGE problem.
Joel Burns. Thankyou so much for sharing your story. It's people like you that motivate me to spread the word about these issues. I get critisized often for it, but seeing videos like this just makes me want to do it more.

  31. 31

Re: suuup – exactly. people seem to not understand that.. my boyfriend still doesnt understand it, as hes a homophobe and i kick the shitout of him when he says bad things about gay men. thats one topic i get really angry about.

  32. 32

1 in 5 of us gays have HIV and half of them don't know it. GREAT LIFE!

  33. 33

Re: tonybotz – i really think that you should grow the f-k up, who the hell are you to spread shiz around all because you're bitter and twisted about your own experiences. gay, lesbian and bi youth have a hard time as it is never mind an old cynical bint telling them 'you may as well kill yourselves now because it ain't getting no better'. who the hell are you?

  34. 34

    Re: hollyus

not saying to "kill yourself". but don't be diluted by people with a personal agenda that doesn't match up with reality. the truth is that im gay and being gay sucks. i came out at 15 in nyc with a progressive supportive family. as you get older, this life sucks. its so superficial and lame.

  35. 35

    Re: WhoCares123 – EXACTLY>>

  36. 36

Perfect.. better than any celeb or natinal politician can ever say… Touching..

  37. 37

Re: tonybotz – Thats why you will forever stay and live a miserable life. Your attitude is why it has not gotten better for you.. It gets better for everyone else.. My life is so wonderful because I did not give up. I did not fall vicitim to hateful, nasty, negative horrible people like you..Seek help..

  38. 38

Re: tonybotz – Bullshit.. One in 5 gays do not have aids.. Such a big, horrible lie you are telling there..

  39. 39

Re: tonybotz – Hey, just because you are miserable does not mean everyone else are experiencing the same as you… Do not project your life on others… Your words explain why you are a miserable soul.. SEEK HELP..

  40. 40

I cried all the ways thru this!!! This speech was truly inspirational! I loved it. It has actually changed me. I love this guy!

  41. npc25 says – reply to this

perez ive always hated you, but good on you for posting this….what a brave brave soul. hes speaking to ALL people. bullying has always existed, and if everyone took a stand the way the gays are, we could end this for everyone.
bullying IS a part of life, but its gotten worse, cuz you can no longer leave school at 3 pm and have the night off from getting beat on…now with FB and text, facetime and aim, you cant escape. its not worse than it was, just unrelenting..for all kids..and parents of our generation..the 30 somethings are SO self absorbed, and so lazy, and so concerned still with our own appearance we have forgotten our kids.

  42. 42

This really tears at my heart! We almost lost my sister in law 10 years ago when she was 14 years old to suicide. My sister in law realized she was gay and was afraid to come out to us. She was also being bullied at school. She tried to hang herself in a bathroom at school. I am so glad another student found her in time and she did not have any injuries. As long as I live I am never going to forget the look on my husbands face when he heard he almost lost his only sister and baby sister at that! He is a police officer and he is the one who responded to the call. It tore him up! She spent a month in the mental ward of Children s hospital and I will never forget going up there to see her. I can tell you that it does get better! She is an adult and is happily engaged to the love of her life and they are living and raising her partners children together! I am so glad and thankful to still have her here and that my children get to know their aunt. My heart goes out to these other families of these teens who were not so lucky!

  43. 43

This is so touching…what a beautiful human being…in the midst of such hatred and despair, this is what it's all about: love, understanding, respect and admiration…

  44. 44

He touched my heart, my preayers are with all those lost kids
