Yesterday, Prince held a press conference at the Apollo Theater in NYC to announce his plan for a concert series in December. His Almighty Purpleness, who is billing the series as Welcome 2 America, told the audience that these concerts are " what we've all been waiting for: multiple nights of entertainment" that will begin "on a purple day in December 2010."
Though Prince didn't specify whether Welcome 2 America will be a tour or a run at one theater, but the artist insisted the show was for everyone. He told the crowd:
"Bring your friends, bring your children and bring foot spray, because it's going to be funky."
As for who'll be jamming with the Highness of Sound, the lineup includes Maceo Parker, singer Janelle Monae, Minneapolis funk band Mint Condition, multi-instrumentalist jazz singer Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Graham Central Station, and Sheila E.
Prince will serve as the master of ceremonies and perform with his band, the New Power Generation.
Nice! Sounds like fun! More deets, please!
