2012 Glastonbury Festival Canceled Due To London Olympics!

We understand why, but this is still so disappointing!

But also just HIGHlarious!

The 2012 Glastonbury music festival will have to be canceled for the first time since 2006, because there are not enough police officers OR portable toilets available - since the London Olympics will be taking place the same year!

WTF?! LOLs!

Founder Michael Eavis explains:

“I can see it getting very expensive. So we looked at the timing and thought that a year off seemed sensible.”

Fair enough! We can't even - nor do we want to - imagine how nasty the whole thing would get without enough toilets!

Bummer, though!

What do U think?? Should Glastonbury take a year off in lieu of the Olympics??

The Olympics is what…two weeks? In a whole summer they can't find one opportunity to host a major event because of said reasons?

There's a fallow year every 5 years, it hasn't been cancelled, the organisers just chose to have 2012 off instead of 2011

Perez, Glasto usually has a "fallow" year (meaning no concert) every five years or so to let the farmland it's held on recover from heavy foot traffic & equipment installation/removal. (More vegetation = less mud.) They were going to make the fallow year 2011, but decided to make it 2012 once they realized they would be competing for resources with the London Olympics (port-a-potties, police/security, etc.) So no big deal.

The UK is a with it place- they will have a music event that precedes or coincides with the Olympics…why not call it "Glastonbury Comes to the London Olympics" and bring the Glastonbury people into it- to give it a Glastonbury UK flavor. After at the Olympics will (also) showcase the whole Island…

Like someone already stated. They always have a year off to let the grass recover and instead of taking next year off to do so, they'll do it 2012.

You're reporting this as if it's news??? It's been pretty common knowledge that it would be off for 2012 for a long while!

Ugh Perez… why would you be disappointed, you've never been!
Worthy Farm is a a working dairy farm, every five years Michael gives the land a year off to just breathe. The Fallow year was due for 2011, but due to logistics, it made more sense to take time out during the olympics, when everything is going to be far more pricey and in demand.
It gives all us glastobaters an eery, vacant weekend in June 2012 to fill, backyard festival time with tonnes of cider and music.
