what's sad is when someone finds out a guy is gay in the military and they get beat up. DADT was put in force to protect the gays; not to discriminate. If you aren't in the military you don't know.

Wow. What a day Mario. Homer Simpson, The Pope, and John Mc-Fucking-Cain n' Able….holy moly

    what an ignorant ass hole.
    EQUALITY FOR ALL!!

Let's hope he dies before he is able to do that… what's he like 106 now? Wait until he finds out they let colored people vote now.

Re: lovers – That is what I don't understand. CLINTON IS THE ONE WHO PUT DADT IN. All of you who want DADT repealed-what do you think is going to happen without it? Before DADT, anyone in the military could go up to anyone they thought was gay and ASK THEM. Being in the Military, they have a conduct code to answer truthfully(I wouldn't have) but IF THEY DID, THEY WERE KICKED OUT dishonorably. If you take away DADT WITHOUT PUTTING IN ANYTHING ELSE, WE ARE JUST GOING BACK TO THE SAME DISCRIMINATION OF GAYS. McCain is right to fillibuster this at this point. DADT is FAR FROM PERFECT. Laughable when it went in, but until some president has the guts, and we KNOW Obama does not have GUTS to say gay people can serve and any discrimination will not be tolerated, DADT must remain in affect. OBAMA KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT MILITARY LIFE.

Perez you are so LAME! DADT is to protect our soldiers…all of them gay or straight! There is a REASON why women are not in combat…and it not because they can't handle a gun! Like LOVERS said…if you aren't in the military you don't know…it doesn't matter whether or not our soldiers are gay…what matters is what our men and women who serve can do for our country to protect our rights for idiots who run their mouth when they don't take the time to educate themselves on these important matters. and as a public figure who is VERY popular is actually disgusting that you so liberally exploit this and other important issues without taking the time to include all the facts…but I guess its your blog and you can write what you please and believe it's your readers that don't take the energy to really learn about the shit that we should be worrying about that kills…
Hope you all like your "Change" now…come January ALL of our taxes are going up by like 5-15%…all because the big "O" that made all these promises won't re-institute Bush's tax cuts!! Thanks a lot!! As if our economy isn't sucking enough…

I would like to see DADT repealed and I am for EQUAL rights for homosexuals in all areas in our day to day lives, but he does make a good point that we need to find out what the impact of repealing this would be on the military forces who are currently in battle before we do anything. If we weren't in 2 wars right now, I would say screw finding out the impact, repeal it because its the right thing to do, but we need to think of our service men and women first. Its sad that our society is this way, but unfortunately it is. However, when it is repealed, and it WILL be repealed, I will celebrate with my gay and lesbian friends! And hopefully get to dance at their wedding one day as well!

Lets make one thing clear hear. The reason why DADT has not been repealed is because the DEMOCRATS attached the Defense Bill AND the Dream Act to the DADT repeal. Meaning the Republicans and Democrats would have to agree on all three in order for one to pass. If the Democrats would have just put up the DADT repeal up for vote it would have PASSED there is definitely enough votes for it! I despise both parties and will no longer vote until there is a candidate who can use logic and has some morals. PEREZ you should not be calling out John McCain he is a lonestar on this issue, he is not the reason why the DADT repeal hasn't happened, it's the DEMOCRATS fault! Call them out! Educate the public. How the hell does a party with a majority FAIL at something so simple…?

I'm all for DADT but if it will endanger gays in the military especially if they are in Afghanistan fighting a war, then they should postpone it for now. Repeal of DADT will happen one day but the military will have to ensure and put into place provsions for the safety of gays if they do come out like imposing stiff penalties for harassing or committing violent crimes against them simply b/c of their sexuality.

Personally DADT should be the norm. There is no reason why anyone should know anothers sexual preferences. It doesn't matter in the work place! If the person I am friendly with wants to share that with me is ok and I would not share that info with other folks.

  11. 11

Bill Clinton did his best to allow gay people into the military. DADT was the best answer at the time, and I supported it.

Now, 16 years later, things have changed. Politics needs to catch up.

And John McCain needs to retire. I wish Barack Obama would be more aggressive with gay rights. I know he's dealing with black rights, but black people already have all the rights. Name one they don't.

Gay people deserve to be treated equally.

  12. 12

Weather you are in the military or not, there is one thing that you need to understand about DADT. Yes, it was implemented to protect the rights of gays HOWEVER it is now being used as a profiling tool to weed out gays in the military due to discrimination. Even when gay men and women DO NOT TELL, if there is even an inkling of suspicion that a service member is gay, the military will launch highly intrusive investigations into these people's lives to determine weather or not they are in fact, gay. If they are (they always are) the service member will then be terminated. THIS is why DADT is being repealed.
By the way, John McCain has a gay daughter and he should be ashamed of himself.

Personally I back DADT. Why do some gay folks have to shout that they are gay…I don't shout that I am straight? Be liked for who you are and it will not matter if you are gay, straight or both!

  14. 14

Re: justtfax – yep most people don't know Clinton iniated that. It's pretty pathetic how a potential canidate, like McCain, will do something about DADT; however, obama doesn't even do anything!!

I have no problem with any gay man or lesbian deciding to keep their preference to themselves while serving in the military, its a very personal choice that only that person to make. But DADT, whether you believe it was made to 'PROTECT" a homosexual while serving is still a civil rights issue and should be repealed

  16. 16

Re: lovers – Are you kidding me, I know plenty of openly gay people in the military (I'm an army wife), none of them have been beaten up or even bullied in the slightest bit

  17. 17

I would also like to say I DONT think DADT should be repealed, even though I think gays should be able to serve, I just don't think it's necessary for everyone to know everyone else's sexual preference. It just doesn't matter. If you are fighting for my country, go on, be homosexual, or straight - doesn't matter!

  18. 18

Is this going to be totally gay thread all the time or is this a phase yu ar going through. If it is, I am gone, I came here to hear about celebs–not to read your personal gay everything rants–be gay somewhere else, you are sickening with this shit–the majority of us are not gay and you are giving them a bad name with this 75% for gay website—-get off it or I am.

  19. 19

Sen. McCain makes a brilliant point: you have to find out the effects of repealing DADT before you can determine if it's the "right thing to do".

Some of you people are saying "give gay people equal rights, i wanna dance at their wedding"!! Well that is so beyond ridiculous and it's so apparent that you have no concept of the military at all.
It's not about equality when people's lives are on the line. Women can't serve in a combat arms branch (yes they can be in combat, idiots) because of the emotions that are involved between a man and a woman. By nature, a man will feel too much sympathy for say an injured women, and could endanger himself or the mission in order to protect her.
Is this a breach of equality? Yep! But is it best for the military and our goals? Yep!

People just need to get over it, and listen to those who actually know a thing or two about the military like McCain and NOT Obama!
Let gay people get married, sure! But as soon as you make sexual orientation a factor in the fight, you endanger them, and the ones around them.

  20. 20

I am a veteran and a McCain supporter. There are more gay people in the military than in the general population and always has been. I was going to vote for John but he can go fuck himself, will vote Democratic. YES I live in Arizona

  21. 21

McCain is correct. It will eventually be overturned but it needs to be done at a measured pace to ensure a smooth tranistion.

  22. 22

OMG - I didn't realize that this blog attracts SO many REDNECKS!! Gays and Lesbians have been allowed to serve openly here in the Canadian Military for over TWENTY years, and the sky has NOT fallen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. 23

I would rather have someone good at their job protecting me an my family than worry about their sexual orientation. I have to ask myself, would we be missing out on the best person for the job over some private matter that belongs at home anyway? As a Marines wife I am appalled that grown men are terrified that another man might find them attractive….so what?! Take it as a fuckin compliment and move on!

Re: lovers – hey for someone that is so preachy about america, you should be well aware that one of the founding ideals of this country is FREEDOM. you shouldnt have to hide who or what you are in order to be protected.
you should have the liberty to be honest about yourself and still have your rights protected by the government!
DADT is not about protecting gays in the military, its about protecting the violent and intolerant which are discriminatory and hostile toward gays who have the right to be gay.
it is perfectly ok for people to not agree with homosexuality but you cannot impose your beliefs on another. DADT was a bandaid, not a solution.
you might as well justify segregation by saying that it protects "colored" people from being harassed by whites.

  27. 27

Re: sushilover – you're right… I wish for one day to see a gay man sitting in the oval office!! that would be a nice step xDD

  28. 28

    Disgusting!
John McCain should have left politics after his unsuccessful bid for president.
    He has totally lost it!

  29. 29

DADT needs to be done away with right away and gay people SHOULD be able to serve openly in the military, anyone who says otherwise is talking shit. If America can't even pass this BASIC law, then I don't expect gay rights to get very far at all in this country. People are stupid.
