The Obama Administration Fails The Gays Yet Again!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GayPolitikBarack ObamaLGBT

We're starting to feel like a broken record here with our consistent disappointment!

Despite being recommended for the position by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, openly gay Daniel Alter's nomination for federal bench in the US District Court has been rejected by the White House!

According to the Washington Blade:

“But informed sources told the Washington Blade that the White House rejected Alter’s nomination because of remarks he reportedly made regarding a case challenging inclusion of the phrase ‘under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition, the White House reportedly objected to remarks that Alter made suggesting that merchants not wish shoppers ‘Merry Christmas’ during the holidays.”

So they threw Schumer's recommendation, which is standard procedure and tradition, out just because Alter supports a separation of Church and State?!

This nonsense needs to STOP! And soon!

When are you gonna realize he never was for Gay Rights he said what he wanted to get your damn votes! He will never do anything for Gay Rights, it took him this long to even do a PSA about all the gay suicides. You voted for him now you have to live with him. Never trust a Chicago Politician.

  2. 2

We need to start thinking about getting someone else in the White House in 2012. Obama doesn't care about gay people. So lets get someone who does.

  3. 3

Since when did sexual orientation become a resume builder? Unless you have proof that Alter was rejected because he was gay, get off your high horse and realize that being gay does not mean you're qualified for a position.

  4. 4

And YOU need to shut up! Stop your whining.

(Informed "sources"? The same "sources' that give you juicy (and totally fake) details on celebs' lives?)

  5. 5

    Do over, Chuck.

  6. 6

you need to fact check on occasion. Earlier this year, the White House nominated openly gay attorney Edward DuMont for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His nomination is still pending in the Senate.

Also due to the GOP constant unprecidented obstruction 60 votes are needed. You know damn well that the GOP will filibuster and run this man, Mr. Alter's name thru the mud because of what he said about "Christmas". He was not dismissed due to being gay it was becasue of what the faux "christians" on the Republican side would say about his remarks regarding Christmas.

Get informed and quit bashing the president when you know zip about procedure.

  7. 7

have you ever thought that maybe, he has nothing against gays at all, the people who just happen to be gay might just not be good enough for the white house. If you really want to see a gay in the damn white house why don't you do it.

  8. 8

I completely agree with gay rights, gay marriage, equality and everything like that. But sometimes it seems like if someone is gay and doesn't get a certain job or something that it is automatically blamed on the fact that he is gay. How do you know that? Maybe the person wasn't qualified or right for that position. I understand that a lot of the time it is because someone is gay but you can't blame everything on that. I feel like everytime someone who is gay doesn't get what they wanted it is "because they are gay". I am from Canada and I find people here to be way more accepting of gays, atleast in my city. I understand the U.S. seems to not be very accepting of gay people. But I think people need to know the complete facts before assuming things.

  9. 9

So maybe I missed the part of the article that dealt with LGBT issues…there are other civil rights issues, you know.

  10. 10

omg perez get over it…there are MUCH more important issues to deal with than gay rights. i am all for equality, but our country faces more pressing issues- such as the recession and lack of jobs

  11. 11

    wow Perez F U C K YOU F U C K YOU.
I do not like Obama at all but I understand as the President he has the absolute right to nominate who he chooses for a court position. That is in his job description.
If Obama/the White House didn't feel he was qualified for one reason or another they do not have to pick him because he's gay. This is not a gay rights issue. I am all for gay rights but this is just absurd - he's not being discriminated against- they just don't feel he matches what they want for the position. Get over it.

  12. 12

The Obama administration has done more for the gay community than any other President has or has thought of doing. Since we're on the subject you are no better than the right wing wack jobs out there, because you've outed people, gay bashed and done absolutely nothing to uplift our community. Shut the fuck up!

  13. 13

I'd be more concerned with him not allowing the Pledge to have "under God" in it and saying Merry Christmas. THAT is a problem. Priorities?

  14. 14

Mario, how many times must we go over this? Barry Obama hates gays. He's not a homophobe, he's not scared of gays. He just hates them. But he placates you guys with granting same-sex partners' visitation rights in a hospital. Big deal. How much of a dick do you have to be to deny letting a gay person visit their ill same sex partner? Mario, how ’bout a campaign to force Barry Obama to support gay marriage? Either way, I love how much the new Perez bashes on the president. So awesome :)

  15. 15

I don't think this has ANYTHING to do with him being gay, Perez. So they should have accepted his nomination JUST because he's gay? So if someone isn't hired for a job and they happen to be LGBT, it means the person doing the hiring isn't accepting of LGBT individuals? That's illogical. I know and have many LGBT friends and if some of them applied for a job I was offering, I can tell you right now they would NOT be hired by me… and it has absolutely nothing to do with their sexual orientation.

  16. 16

Perez, Obama has failed the entire country day after day since 01-20-08.

  17. 17

Separation of church and state is one thing. (Religion does NOT work as a political ideology) However the arguement about not wishing people Merry Christmas during the holidays is bullshit because I hate how out of control politically correct has gotten.

  18. 18

Yet another campaign promise broken. Wake up America, this guys is in way over his head. He is an unqualifed buffoon that managed to snow 52% of America in to voting him in. Anybody getting healthcare through their companies get their new plans yet? Hows that co pay working out for you? How about closing Gitmo? Movng forward on that one? Clocks ticking Mr President of change.

  19. 19

lolol Perez you are so extra…Them turning him down has nothing to do with him being GAY…look at how your twisted journalism goes. So was he suppose to get the job because he's gay and it would've given Obama some cool poll point with the gay community? Under God has always been in the pledge of allegiance and should remain there!…What is wrong with people saying Merry Christmas?..It's a holiday. I say Happy Kwanza, happy hannukah and all…you celebrate what you want to, but these things have always been part of American culture. Should we start taking away Valentine's Day, Veteren's Day, Easter, etc too?

  20. 20

And Obama hires a transvestite in one of his highest posts? How soon we forget these things. Perez, the President is making strides for the community and again he hired a transvestite to his posts. He has gay advisors working with him and you need to start looking at the issues of urban youth in this country that are disintegrating into nowhere. What? You don't' care about them and their journey? What a hypocrite you are!

  21. 21

please, please, please! Enough about the gays already….there are other things that take precedence over whether or not he was discriminated against.

  22. 22

It seems like they threw out his recommendations for issues completely separate from the fact that he is gay. You even say yourself they throw it out because of his remarks on separation of church and state, and yet your headline makes it seem like a gay issue. I love the gays as much as the next person, but being gay doesn't automatically qualify you for a position, and not getting a position doesn't automatically make the people who denied you bigots.
Way to be inflammatory and ill-informed.

  23. 23

Ummmm, Perez? Just because a person is gay does not mean that everything that happens to them is because they are gay. Clearly they had other, non-gay issues with this guy. Get off your gay high-horse!!

  24. 24

uhhhh Im gay and Im glad he was rejected. Anyone who wants to question the pledge of allegiance and stop merchants from wishing people a merry christmas is not someone I want representing me. Period.

  25. 25

So he was supposed to get hired……because he's gay? Seriously, give it up.

  26. 26

NO PEREZ~ you need to stop!

Can you seperate other issues from gay?

  27. 27

Re: Kait99 – Nope there is not one shred of proof that he was rejected for being gay it just said he questioned the pledge of allegiance and stop merchants from wishing people a merry christmas.
    Way to exaggerate something Perez.

  28. 28

"The Obama Administration Fails The Gays Yet Again!"

    Just the gays?
I highly doubt this man was "rejected" by the WH on the lone fact he is gay.
As an overall thought on the matter: The Obama Admin did inherit a lot of problems from the Bush Admin that have to be solved ( straight or gay, black, white, whatever- we all have to work/survive in this country) - and I think that the economy should be first and foremost on Obama's "to do" list…followed by healthcare, national security, intl' relations… I believe gay rights are important, I think american people as a whole should be concerned with how he's running the country period - because if his administration keeps spending the way it does, we will be forced to follow the rules and rights to whichever country buys us out…

  29. 29

Hey Perez are you secretly on someone's payroll to keep President Obama down? Re: ChicagoGay – How easy it is for some, cause I won't say all, of gay people to forget what Obama has done for you thus far? Before Obama, how many years has the Gay community fought to even be recognized by the President without that president putting them down? How many years have you guys fought to be able to walk in a hospital and stand by your loved one's side? Everything is a process and if you know anything about politics then you would know that the president does not wave a magic wand and things appear. In that case we would live according to a dictatorship. We have congress which we the people vote into office as well and they have to approve or disapprove of many things the president puts in front of them. There were plenty of Gay people that were going to vote for Obama regardless of anything. I'd like to see the next candidates who steps forward in 2012.

  30. 30

What did him not getting the job have to do with him being gay? I'm confused. Not EVERYTHING is about being gay

  31. 31

I am not a conservative Christian by any means but I despise people who want to ban cashiers from saying Merry Christmas in stores. When I worked in retail in high school and college I said Merry Christmas to every customer from Black Friday to Christmas and no one was going to tell me not to. Oh and believe me you aren't the only one who is consistently dissapointed by Obama but my reasons have nothing to do with gay rights.

  32. 32

ugh your such a dumb american perez. gay people are not the most important people in this damn country you know! you are such a sad man, barack obama has done much more for gays then any other president, so stfu and stop being a ignorant american!

  33. 33

Look…. Obama doesn't care about gays and you all bashing him is stupid. There has NEVER been a president that has supported gay activity b\c only a small population of this confused world is gay. Bush didn't… Clinton didnt… Regan didn't… should I keep going? So before Obama bashing do your homework. SMH

  34. 34

Gay this, Gay that! How the FUCK is THIS celebrity NEWS!?!?!

  35. 35

Re: MartiniJones – Thank you! Exactly what I was thinking! I don't think this is a gay issue at all. I know not everybody is religious but it is a real problem to omit "under god" and to not wish shoppers a "Merry Christmas". I can't believe Perez doesn't see this.

  36. 36

Stop overstepping the boundaries of your intellect. Separation of church and state (aka the establishment and free exercise clauses) are well litigated matters in the Constitution … unfortunately Alter's above stated opinions are in DIRECT CONFLICT with the case law surrounding the establishment and free exercise clause. "Under God" has been deemed constitutional, and I doubt the current Court would disapprove of Merry Christmas wishes.

Stop backing people simply because they're gay. It's ridiculous!

  37. 37

Saying "Merry Christmas" and "under God" has nothing to do with church and state… Get over it. If you don't want to say it, don't say it. But don't confuse this issue with real church/state issues. That is reason enough for me that he shouldn't be nominated. No matter what you feel about this country it is based in Christianity, and no that doesn't mean we should all be the same.. thank goodness we're not.. and you can believe in equality but want to say "Merry Christmas" and "under God." This is our PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE folks.. believe in it!!!!

  38. 38

I'm glad he didn't get it - I disagree with both of his points-of-view, especially not saying "Merry Christmas" - beyond ridiculous.

  39. 39

Fails the gays? More like is awesome for the REAL America.

Fuck yeah straight people! Dominate! Hey gays, guess what? America fucking hates you!

  40. 40

I am not sure what unprecidented obstruction means (see Midgeishere ). How quickly we forget Chuck Schumer opposing every single Bush nominee. I suspect the the Republicans have a little trouble with his liberal interpretation of the constitution ie lets just make it up

  41. 41

What does merchants saying "Merry Christmas" have to with the separation of church and state?

  42. 7tizz says – reply to this

Mario - do you have proof he was rejected because he was gay? Before today, have you even heard of this guy? By you just assuming he wasn't promoted just because he was gay is homophobic in itself and it just shows how downtrodden you think gays are. Learn the facts before you start witch-hunting.

  43. 43

Alter's "support [for]… a separation of church and state" seems like an extreme threat to the freedom of speech, especially where curtailing the content of merchants' advertisements is concerned. I'm opposed to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and don't especially care for the President for lots of reasons, but I agree with the White House's decision here. Anyone who wants to restrict private entities' speech like Alter seems to want to do isn't fit to uphold the Constitution.

  44. 44

Obama appointed a GAY to the U.S. SUPREME COURT!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously, this guy not getting the job NOTHING to do with his gayness.

  45. 45

Perhaps you'll actually perform some due diligence before the next election…

  46. 46

I don't think that the administration failing to approve one homosexual judge is the White House failing the gay community. His sexual orientation probably never had anything to do with the decision and he certainly shouldnt have gotten the position just because he was gay. Yes I believe the White House should be doing more for Gay Rights, but you can't look at everything and flag it as discrimination. That makes it seem like homosexuals should get special treatment because they are homosexual. We are fighting for equal rights here.

  47. 47

Why should he do anything go gay rights? To be gay is immoral and sinful, why should any exceptions or anything special to be made for them anyway. This country was not set up for gay people to have the same rights as everyone else. What the hack, let's just let all the rapist and murderers out of prison. I guess they would be mad too if we do not let them out. Go back in the closet!!~!

  48. 48

He gave gays hospital visitation rights and signed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill. Unfortunately he cannot solve every gay rights issue with the stroke of a pen!

  49. 49

His admin did more for gays than any other. STFU! He's a fucking person, why do all idiots expect this man to save the country from turmoil while you dumb fucks sit around and talk shit about what he's not doing?

  50. 50

Perez? Is there anything more to you than you being gay? Do you have any other talents or characteristics. DAMN! We know you're gay. We know you slather yourself in gay issues. Is there anything else you can tell us? If being gay is all you have to go on…You're screwed. Go get a 9 to 5 cuz your time is running out on this shit anyway.

  51. 51

Good move by the white house, I don't think it had anything to do with him being gay, he just didn't cut it.

  52. 52

Were in a recession. People are losing their jobs and homes. Class rooms are too small with too many students. Schools are having to make budget cuts. BUT please, lets all put THOSE problems aside and ask the gay community what THEY need. Lets accomodate them. Who fucking cares about ANYONE'S sexual orientation. The only reason that it comes up, is because GAY'S make it an issue. You don't hear about strait people walking around complaining what they're not getting BECAUSE they are strait. Life is not fair. Get the fuck over it.

  53. 53

Umm, what does he being rejected by the admin has to do with him being gay? Has nothing to do with being gay and shame on you for trying to say a gay man deserves a position simply for being gay. I guarentee you had Obama nominated this guy, every republican and the majority of dems who have shot this nomination down. They would have used this man to start a firestorm of political rhetoric. In other words, this mans views, as right as he may be, is like adding gas to a fire……He made the right decision..

  54. 54

Stop making everything about "gay". It seems to me that he wasn't invited for other reasons, but because he so happens to be GAY, you and all the others gays have to make a big deal about it. *rolling eyes* I'm really sick of this gay shit.

Does anyone know of another celeb gossip website I could start going to? I'm sick of Perez and his gay agenda. I just wanna get the scope and not hear about another gay story.

  55. 55

It's almost like that Pageant bitch who got shunned because she didn't believe in gay marriage. Oh, wait this is the same principal.

  56. @v@ says – reply to this

With the house potentially split, I guess they don't want to be putting out any fires. Stirring things up just for the sake of it can be construed as confrontational and combative. It sounds like they didn't think he'd fit in. Who knows; it could have been something else completely, but this is the spin.

  57. 57

I am surprised that anyone would pass up someone recommended by Schumer

  58. 58

Re: Anna_K – Actually, why should gay people care about the economy when straight people didn't give a stuff about gay rights for the longest time? You're trying to ask us to care about straight people and their families when you don't care about us? Thats great.

  59. 59

Which part of this story says that he was rejected in any way due to being gay?? It doesn't! And, as much as I dislike the clown Obama, for once I agree with this rejection. STOP trying to force your agenda on the rest of us! "Under GOD" was what this country was founded on, and I have the right to wish anyone a 'Merry Christmas" if I damn well please.
