Would You Like Your House Removed From Google's Street View?

google will delete street view houses if you request it

Does it disturb you that if somebody types your address into Google Maps, they can see your house?

Google CEO Eric Schmidt appeared on CNN's Parker Spitzer on Friday, and had a long back and forth about the subject, which included the issue of "Street View cars" that illegally gather emails and passwords while they scan neighborhoods.

During his CNN appearance, Schmidt made a comment that if people don't want photos of their homes snapped, they should "just move." The comment didn't make it into the Broadcast, but Schmidt's comment did not go unheard.

Here's what Schmidt had to say about it:

"As you can see from the unedited interview, my comments were made during a fairly long back and forth on privacy. I clearly misspoke. If you are worried about Street View and want your house removed please contact Google and we will remove it."

Google has commented that they plan to delete all illegal information they've obtained as soon as possible.

As far as houses are concerned, guess we'll see how responsive Google actually is to people who request their houses be deleted from Google Street View.

Do U want your house deleted from Street View? Or are U okay with it there?

I'm fine with my house being there… As a single female homeowner, I take precautions by not having my name associated with the address anyways… Anyone looking up to see what my house looks like is doing so because I've given them my address and am expecting them :) Or they're a crazy stalker and I'm already screwed without google showing them what the house looks like! lol

  2. 2

I have no problem with people seeing my house from a "street view" Why would i?

  3. 3

This pic of the house is silly- anybody walking by can see there's a house there and look at it- so online is no different. BUT, if they attach a Name and person's identity to that house, that is an Incredible breach. Nevermind that for a minute- you said they were Collecting E-mail Addresses AND Passwords as they drive by? WTF!? How is possbile… and if they Did do it, how come they haven't been slammed with charges over it? That's Terrible!

When did Google get owned by big brother?

  5. 5

    I want Goggle prosecuted.

  6. 6

i sure as hell want my house off….hell you can see the kids playing on my street…its creepy

  7. 7

Probably what will get Google to take it seriously is the first time a stalker finds a home on Google Street View and kills somebody that lives in the home and Google is sued for being an accomplice.

  8. 8

I'd love my house removed - the real question is: HOW DO YOU CONTACT GOOGLE TO LET THEM KNOW?

  9. 9

I saw the google car driving around the other day it was so cool. That thing spins all around while they drive.

Lol, some people didn't the [lame] attempt at humor. A year or so ago he made a similar statement when someone asked him how people could remove their personal history when searched for on Google. "Easy, just change your name." Schmidt said.

I all ready tried to get my house removed. It lasted for a few months and now its back again.

  12. 12

Anyone can drive by your god damn house and look at it anyways, people are so crazy and worried over nothing. Big Brother?? The world is big, anyone who is looking at your house knows you or prob could just drive/walk by it anyways

  13. 13

How the hell would they be able to remove single homes from an aerial view?

  14. 14

There is no point in having the pic removed! It's not like it's a live view of the house. It's just a picture that may have been taken a while ago! The same equivalent as someone driving by and snapping a pic. There is no harm to it

    lol paranoid schizophrenics on here
hello! anyone can drive by or walk by your house anyway!
if you are that concerned then you need to get rid of your address altogether
i am sure there is some kind of psycho paranoid compound up in the mountains or out in the desert that you can all go and live in together
    ridiculous and hilarious

My dad had his house removed like 2 years ago or something, because the garage was open and you could see evrything that was inside and he did not take too kindly to that.

I bought a book once on how to 'disappear' so no one can find you and it is almost impossible to do this. Also, in my state you can get on a government website and type in any address in this county and it will tell you who lives there. You can have your name removed from it but you have to fill out forms etc. If someone has your social security number, they WILL be able to find you. Also, get on ussearch.com. I have found everyone I was looking for on that web site. And you cannot change your social security number without permission from the Justice department.

I do want my house removed, its creepy. They come by once a year to update the pictures. I think they should give us the option and I would vote yes for me. I have seen the cars drive by with their cameras. I think if it were the goverment people would be angry, but because its a tech firm it doesn't have the same meaning.

They had a disturbing nerve doing this with private residences without owner consent in the first place. A man's/woman's home is his/her castle. Appalling!

Re: woochx – You must not have sent your request on your attorney's letterhead.

I love that I can search my house. Realistically, its a great tool to enable people to find your house. Additionally, its a great tool for law enforcement if anything should ever happen in your neighborhood or immediate area. Go Google!!

i love google but this is ridiculous !!
